I'm sorry but if I was in battle there is no way in hell I would let my mom fight if she didn't know how. Letting someone run into battle who doesnt know how to fight especially your own mother, is just a bad move. Plain and simple.
1. If you had, you would have died. You can't play a character who runs away from the Blight, and you can't play a character who sits there and dies.
2. Then you'd have to protect her, thinking more of her safety than your own, which is counterintuitive to what she is actually trying to do. And, if she got wounded, you'd have to protect her even more. You'd probably get killed doing it. Again, counterintuitive.

I agree about the not letting your mom die thing. Hell on my one cousland character I tried my best to make atleast the mom live. But as for die with them.. I don't think I can agree with that. I get what mama cousland meant when she said that theres no point in all of them dieing. It would just make their sacrifices be in vain.

Also, for the record, I didn't get this demo from either Bioware or Gamestop. That's all I'm going to say to this.
Devs, contact me if you want the videos taken down.
There have been plenty of dev posts in this thread, and they havent said anything about wanting you to take it down. I say put them up, and if the devs want them taken down just abide by their wishes. Youre not going to get in any trouble over this.

I know I keep watching the videos again and again too.
About the video:
It really does feel a lot like Origins from watching the videos. And I think the graphics and animations look beautiful. I'm loving cone of cold?'s new look. It's nice being able to watch the game in high quality and to see everything clearly. I was only going to try mage and rogue for my playthroughs, but now I want to make a warrior playthrough too. I like the pacing of the story and the interaction between Varric and Cassadra....
Gaaah.....I can't wait for March 8th!!!!!

Why would a mother stand at the side and watch her kids be slaughtered by darkspawn not doing anything? Far as I know either Carver or Beth die and the templar as well. And if not for Flemeth they all died. It would be different if it were a sort of fair fight, they are outnumbered by far. If I remember the side quest in DA:O where you rescue the refuguees they are 6 unarmed peasants who fight darkspawn with their fists. Just standing there and not doing anything to help just seems wrong.
Maybe she did try. Maybe her her kids told her to stay the hell back, mom, you'll be in our way.
She would cause a lot more damage then good if she didn't run and hide. They'd have to protect her. She'd get in their way.
Right on you are Saibh. It is their (her children) duty to protect her.
Dude.. She's an old lady! It was her duty to protect her children when they were like.. 1 years old to -15 or whatever. Her kids are like 20 something years old now. I think its time for her to be protected.
How old are you btw? Would you still have your mom protect you from the dangers of the world or vise-versa?
I'm sorry but if I was in battle there is no way in hell I would let my mom fight if she didn't know how. Letting someone run into battle who doesnt know how to fight especially your own mother, is just a bad move. Plain and simple.
To put this in a bit of a better light:
You are escaping a village that is burning. You have your mother, your sister and brother, and yourself. Three of these people are armed, and can use the weapons they have well, whether this be magic, or weaponry. Three of these people are trained in the use of the weaponry. One of these people is older, her muscular structure would likely not be able to support a weapon as well as run as far away as possible from a burning village and nightmarish creatures that can reach out of the ground to kill.
Creatures that are wicked abominations, twisted and distorted from their parent race, seemingly endless in their numbers, gnashing teeth and wickedly sharp weapons. This woman is untrained in her ability to fight, and if given a weapon, would more than likely not know how to utilize it the direct field of conflict, in any such manner. This woman attempts to fight these horrific creatures. How does this end?
Badly for her, not so badly for the others who are, in fact, trained to wield these weapons, and likely wield them in a field of battle.
for the sake of argument, she is given a club. What kind of club? A wooden club. This club will likely not last against even one of the creatures due to the armor they are wearing, most likely because it is sturdier than a wooden club -- which is 100% true, as the armor is likely made up of scrappd metal materials, which wood does not fair well against -- and because she was attempting to hit one of them with it. This does not end well in any circumstances.
So what do you do? You don't let an untrained fighter fight, moreso if the woman is your mother.

So the argument is, because the game sold better on PC, PC gets it only? No. That's not even a good business model by any stretch. EA is a business company. If the game is multiplatform, it shows favoritism towards one console over the other, as well as being a generally bad business model. If you want to appeal to people using a demo, and the game is on multiple platforms, the best business model conceivable is releasing the demo on all available platforms simultaneously.
Ignoring the obvious PC elitism and 'console kiddies' comment, did ME2 sell well? Yes it did. It sold well without needing a demo. You do not need to be provided with a demo, and it is not a right. This is a privilege that is not conclusive to the right or entitlement therein. It is a privilege that we have, that companies do not have to provide for us, yet many companies do to produce interest in the product they are selling to consumers. Sometimes this backfires, and it is then something called 'negative feedback' because either the consumer found it in poor quality, or the core of the game was bugged, or what have you. Numerous problems could arise. Such is the life of a demo.
No the arguement is (without all the rage):
1. DA2 on the PC should stay PC oriented
2. If you're not going to release a demo until 3 weeks before the game comes out, at least release more information than you did (barely anything)
3. Again, we don't need to be provided with a demo, but also not releasing any information at all until the "last minute" isn't good either
4. DA:O sold well for the most part because:
a: it was an rpg
b: it was a throwback to typical wrpgs on the PC from the 90s (a very good thing since the PC does not have enough of these, and then the consoles get a million and one jrpgs)
c: bioware
5. the marketing campaign for both games was more insulting (to me) than it was helpful. I don't want DA to be associated with Marilyn Manson, and I don't want people thinking that in any shape or form because that's not what the game represents at all.
6. Ideally, games released multiplatform should not display any favoritism. There are certain optimizations you can take because of being released on a Keyboard/mouse setup that do not work well with a controller setup and vice versa, but that's beside the point.
ps. you can see I bought DA:O and ME2, it's right there under my avatar

No offense Mr "Lead Designer" but this is what you should have been providing for PC users ****ing MONTHS ago, not 3 weeks before release and shove us off an old press build of a section of the game that isn't even representitive in part or whole of what the game is like.
I'm glad there's this video to watch, cause compared to what you've done with DA:O you've given us almost nothing to whet our appetite like you did with the first game, and frankly it's insulting.
Ah, there's nothing quite like a post the opens with no offense and then puts your title in quotes. Nothing could go downhill from there!
Regardless, I'm sorry you're offended at our release schedule for assets. Sometimes the realities of the game we're making do not allow us to release detailed videos multiple-asterisk months before the game is finished. And sometimes they allow us to release a demo before the game ships so that you can try it for yourself and make the most informed decision possible.
And if that doesn't soothe the offended feeling, not much is going to.
Mr. Laidlaw, as you well know if they say "no offense" it's equivalent to "with all due respect" and they can say whatever they want afterward. You are not allowed to object.
It's in the Geneva Conventions.

Identical to the rings they had in Origins to denote current target, seperate friendly from party from enemy and so on.
You can toggle them off on the PC, and toggle them on on the consoles, as you prefer. They ship off by default on consoles, since the targeting is fundamentally different, but they can still be turned on if you love em.

Right under the part about mustard gas, probably.
Anyway, I think we've seen a good exploration of both sides of the "was there enough information?" issue, so let's keep it on topic, as we have. I appreciate that, for the most part, we're already there.

The answer is obvious. I don't let her fight. I don't care if she has a club, a sword, or a minature golem doll. She's unarmored, unskilled, feeble, and fighting against monsters. She would be gutted before she got single hit in.
