I'm not too crazy about femhawke's voice to be honest, she sounds so... uppity.
What do you mean by 'uppity'? The meaning I've usually seen that ascribed to is something like 'uppity women these days, don't know their place' - Not sure whether that's what you meant, or if you're using a meaning I've never heard, 'cos I don't see how that meaning of uppity could be a bad thing for a big, bad hero - you don't exactly get to be the big hero by bowing down to the man, after all...
Seriously Wtf is up with these forums and screaming out "SEXIST!" based on nothing
Femhawkes voice isn't very good IMO or in Estels (sounds likea girl name BTW) Does that makes us sexist?
No it does not. I said
nothing about being sexist. I merely stated a simple fact; that the only meaning I know of for the word 'uppity' is the one I described, and asked whether that was the meaning intended, since that didn't seem likely to me in this context.
OK, self-defence against accusations of accusations asside, I've now taken the time to look it up on dictionary.com
up·pi·ty [uhp-i-tee] –adjective Informal .
1. affecting an attitude of inflated self-esteem; haughty; snobbish.
2. rebelliously self-assertive; not inclined to be tractable or deferential.
The usage I've encountered seems to be a derivative of the 2nd meaning there, and applying the 1st to what Estel78 wrote... yeah, that makes sense now. Sorry; as I said, I've only encountered it in the one context, that of insulting women who didn't fit into... well, to avoid flamebating, I'll say 'certain narrow role definitions', and leave it at that. Again, not my intention to accuse anyone of anything, merely an attempt to understand what someone meant; sorry if my choice of phrasing conveyed the wrong impression.
