So why did we get to character customization after the first time we did see Hawke?
Because the first exaggerated sequence is the idea of Hawke, not the real thing. That's my assumption, anyway.

Apparently you're forced to play the opening as the default Hawkes.
Why? That's a damned good question.

There's no chance I'll be playing the game that way, Carver can die, he seems like a bit of a **** anyway.

Self inserted Canadians, that's why.

Indeed.
Apparently Hawke's so illusive that people might not even get his/her basic features right. Despite having a family that's well known. <_<
It's like the milkman incident with the Couslands but less amusing.

Yeah, Varric wouldn't be exaggerating as he does with Bethanys breast size, he'd be out right lying if you decide to play a custom hawke. <_<

Varric's pathetic attempt to throw the Seekers off.

Well I would not call that option being a douche Hawke is just being cold/pragmatic since they can't do anything for betharny I mean if they stand around greving the darkspawn will kill them all.
But come on the way he said it. It was just so.. Mean. But I guess thats the point.
I actually like that Male Hawkes voice actor can really pull off the aggressive tone. He's actually a pretty good choice for Male Hawke. I'll definetly be using that tone alot, but not in situations like this.
Well bioware may have told the voice actor to do it in a cold tone, As I said I will be a aggresive hawke any templar that touches beth will get smashed in the face.

And let's not even get into the whole "legendary Hawke being white." bit. <_< While the ME de team loved Default Sheploo they didn't force him on people in game.

I'm afraid they do exist. There was also a novelization to BG2. You know, the one where Imoen had forced sex with a drow priestess and turned gay.
Also, the Twilight phenomina is still out there.
You may now despair so that I may feast on your tears.

If I saw my brother's head get smashed in I would be almost catatonic. If Hawke's a hero that response wasn't all that heroic.

I think I just died a little inside. But then, thinking about it some more I realised that's quite hot. So yay. Conflicted.

That ogre battle was the most boring thing I have ever seen. It looked like her attacks were doing 1 point of damage per attack. If battles are like that in the real game then they really failed.

What was missing was a short shot of Hawke's face, him struggling with his sister's death, then he could have said the same line and it wouldn't have come off so douchy because as insensitive as it is, he's got a point. As it is now it really seems like he couldn't care less.Eclipse_9990 wrote...
I'm probably going to end up playing a aggressive Hawke, but I definetly wouldn't have acted like a douche. I was almost yelling at the screen. "No! Don't say that you douche! Say your sorry!"

Or the taint.
Or not having an awesome beard... No, wait. That' can't be right; Duncan died, despite having a beard so awesome it reached across time and space, and forced Bioware to give default Hawke an awesome beard too:P

When I saw that part it looked exactly like DA:O. But I think it had to do more with the player honestly. I think if he paused more, and was a bit more tactical, things would have turned out better...
Action RPG my ass.

So hawke was this glorious sexy white man with black hair and a full beard and he slaughtered every darkspawn in sight without even so much as breaking a sweat - BULL****.
Ok, ok. He really was a short, unimpressive, narrowminded, ginger, halfwit with ugly ears who barely was able to talk properly.
Artistic license, Cassie dear.
And yes, I used ginger as an insult. Sue me.
Cue the adventures of ugly hawke.

As for the death scene.. Well, everyone (except Aveline, possibly, and the player char) is in shock - mom especially so, and with a 3-ton monster around, there is no time for slo-mo 5 minutes of wailing, after all. Real drama doesn't have that fancy Hollywood polish some allude as 'raw emotion'... the big hit is when it really sets in, perhaps even days later, but not in that instant.
