That ogre battle was the most boring thing I have ever seen. It looked like her attacks were doing 1 point of damage per attack. If battles are like that in the real game then they really failed.

Action RPG my ass.

Agreed on all accounts. If we go by this footage, "Dragon Age II" will be very-very boring.

Lame.

I agree with this, Thats what that demo pretty much showed. It seemed very boring, i understand its just the start but when the sister died it just seemed so bad....Hawk didn't show any emotions to his sister dieing at the moment. If i were him i would have charge into the battle not turn my head.

Hopefully some of this is due to the player making not-so-great decisions: he chose the negative responses during the sister's death, obviously that makes Hawke look like a jerk.  He kept Aveline in some sort of shield defense sustainable the entire time which resulted in endless boring stabs, and he never healed anyone, so yeah, maybe not the best example of how the gameplay should work.

Aveline is pretty awesome in those clips. I especially liked her punching a darkspawn. Image IPB

Meh, I think the last part looked 'slow/boring' to some people because the player tried to play the mage as a warrior. The first two parts where he played as a warror looked much better. I think everything from the combat to the graphics looked great!

I agree. It will be more interesting playing a mage if that is what you are good at, but he was clearly better with warriors, which was why the first one was more interesting.

what bothers me alittle is th environment/level design, seems like the map is just a very long corridor and it looks nothing like Lothering except for that highway in the distance. I was expecting more noticable ruins and a better representation of the "after" Lothering that we can compared to the one in DA:O. (Broken Sten's cage...a certain dead merchant...poisoned traps etc.)

The best balance between flashiness and realism for 2-handed weapon that I've seen lately is actually from Tera. Very over the top and stylized but the sword still has weight and doesn't feel like it's a cardboard cut-out. The on-hit reaction from the monster is another plus.

It's kind of sad that an MMO actually have better animation that a single player game that can afford much more expansive animation in general.

Well... Tuesday can't come any sooner. If this is how the game starts, I will be throwing my shoe at the screen.

We will have to wait and see.

I'd guess the intention of that sequence of gameplay is to feel chaotic and frantic. If your character is supposed to be fleeing for their lives it's not exactly the best time to slow things down so that you can look around.

As is always the case, you can hate a design decision like that; but if that was indeed the goal I think it looks like it pulls it off quite well.

I was only commenting on the first video which had warrior Ladyhawke, iirc.

or we could slow down a bit and explore the area like roleplayingames suppose to be, not a simple hack'n slash game.

After seeig the second video in the batch, the first game that came to mind was "Diablo". Lol... "Diablo" was a fast paced hack and slash game witrh rpg elements.

People have a right to like or dislike anything. I have no problem with the fan raves, and I have no problem with the fan critiques. What is your problem? Do you not like diversity?

Or, do you want everyone to like the color red?

Absent any evidence to the contrary, I'm choosing to hope that that's because it was Jerk-face Hawke; I noticed that the final comment in the conversation where they met Aveline was different in the third vid to the 2nd - much harsher; no doubt as a result of making more aggressive conversation choices in this play-through. It's not inconceivable that they're having the system that changes such responses change the facial and body language of Hawke in the cutscenes.

Actually this is not the demo that we will be getting. It was an earlier convention demo that some one managed to get a hold of according to the devs. Still the game looks sweet. The guy did not know how to manage his party or set up AI tactics. Thats why he ended up playing "princess Stabbity" with Aveline( who I think from the short intro will be an awesome character) while attacking the ogre. Plus her stamina was at zero and her special moves were spent. I love the line " You will not have him!!!" as she buries a blade in the darkspawn neck. Awesome!

I dont like the fast combat in the 2 first videos , but the 3 one , man that ogre fight ... How can someone say is the same as DAO ... I know lots of people dont like DAO combat , and im sorry but thats my opinion , i prefer DAO combat , this stab stab the ogre to death dont win for me.

Lets hope thats not the case and the game is really great ...

I noticed that too. Puzzling, as that didn't even happen in Origins. Hopefully that's been fixed for the final version.

I think if you're running for your life from the Blight and roving bands of Darkspawn raiders, the last thing on your mind is a nice brisk stroll through an area to explore. That beginning sequence fits and creates a sense of urgency with quick conversational tidbits and then fighting/running for your life.

I think the main problem is more about repetition. At the start of "Dragon Age: Origins" (after you explore the castle), your family starts to run for their lives. If these videos are any indicator, the starting point of this game is a repackaged version of the start of the first game. Nothing new.

What is the difference between Hawke's family running for their lives and the Warden's family running for their lives? Especially at the starts of the game, and your mother has the same voice over.

Why are so many people convinced that Origins was an exploration-heavy game? Have you ever played a sandbox game?

And why do I keep reading the thread title as "First pubic demo playthrough"?

Frustrating how people jump to conclusions that the whole game will be the same as three ten minute YouTube video's.

It was the very opening of the game and the player had only two skills unlocked... sheesh. Now I remember why I stopped reading game forums.

<_<

So were a lot of the origin sequences in DA:O; it's just the start of the game; they're supposed to be fleeing for their lives; that's hardly the sort of situation where it makes sense for them to be exploring. Sure, there's a long tradition of seperation between the story-logic of how the characters ought to be rushing to stop the villain, and the player-logic of exploring and leveling up, but...

I think you're over analyzing what I said. People whine and moan about the silliest things here, it's very entertaining to read.

This could be the part where Varric suppose to exaggerate the whole thing. The fight after that is the real thing. I don't know whether if it is true or not, but it is likely correct (seeing as you change your gear after it)
