I guess it would turn that way then:

Neutral sounding M!Hawke - Omg boring, meer clone
Actually tries to pull off some emotion - Omg tries too hard, fake

Sometimes, this forum makes me think that majority of players just dislike the male hero for whatever reason.:crying:

It won't sound fake if VA is any good. In Origins, with every companion you got a clear sense of personality, including Sten (especially Sten). With male Hawke you don't get any sense of personality, he just sounds robotic.

Robotic? I know it's a subjective matter, but to me it seems like you are confusing him with Mark Meer.
Not every protagonist has to sound distinctive or like your typical B-movie hero. Plus he's not predefined. That's why I like him a bit more than the distinctive 'posh' talking Lady Hawke (which doesn't mean I dislike her, so far I liked everything I've heard).

I'm very pleased with both male and female hawke. I think most people are very defensive about the gender of their PC, specifically Lady!Hawkes because there is such a great lack of exposure for her by the publicity staff that they will do anything to peg down the "enemy" that is the source of hiding more info and soundclips from their prefered PC.

That, and I imagine there is a real sourness still resonating after ME2's horrible, horrible marketting relations with girl gamers, where they outright refused to show F!Shepard clips, video, or just about ANYTHING with the common excuse that it would "Confuse their fanbase", really insulting and hurting another chunk of their fanbase.

Agreed. And an irony with the ME marketing fiasco is that most (or at least a significant number) of players consider Jennifer Hale's voicing of Shepard vastly superior to Mark Meer's. There's a current PC Gamer article (15 things we want to see in ME3) - and number 14 is 'Female Shepard on the box' :wizard:

I also like both Hawkes. LadyHawke is well spoken without being too posh, it's clipped RP English rather than accented, but that's fine. It isn't public schoolgirl plummy, which would have annoyed me greatly. Both are voices I can more than tolerate, and for a game I will be spending most of March playing, that is a relief.

I don´t find Meer robotic, at least on Paragon. The problem I have with the few lines I heard from mHawke is he tries to sound badass, but without success.

You need to lisen again, neither the male nor female Hawke's sound robotic at all.

Ironically, I usually like Hale, but not as Shepard. For some reason her voice fails to show compassion mpost of the times. She´s good in renegade choices, but I don ´t usually play that style of character.

Really? Consider me ignorant or blindfold but I never actually knew things were that bad with the female counterpart exposure. Then again, I don't own ME2 or visit the forums over there anymore.:D

It's good to see both genders got their share in DA2 at least.

I do believe that the protagonist needs to sound distinctive, after all the game is about his story, it's hard to care about it otherwise. That was, for me, the whole point of making a voiced protagonist.
To be fair though the few lines that we can hear Hawke speak in these two videos is probably not enough to make a judgement, would need to hear more, especially for diffferent personalities.

Eh, I've seen posts on the ME forums even from ManSheps who rate Hale's voicework as being better than Meer's. Regardless, I qualified my statement somewhat with 'significant number', if not the majority. I'd call a fifth of all Sheps quite significant. Where do you get the 20% figure from?

I do like her better as Renegade (or Paragade, which is about as bad as I get!). Nicely world-weary.

It was pretty bad. The devs here have been nice enough to demonstrate Lady Hawke, offer pictures, give some info. Not to mention the press seems VERY interested in Lady Hawke, since a lot of reviews and clips have been popping up specifically about their play experience with her.

ME2 however? It sucked. I think they put up ONE picture, refused to show any clips, the Press wasn't very helpful either, they didn't give nearly the same amount of attention to F!Shepard's model as they did M!Shepard (M!Shepard was pretty much designed after a Model. F!Shepard looks like it was just slapped together on the custom screen and called good). And whenever people requested and begged for information, it was brushed off with a sentence of "We cannot, it'll confuse our base" which is total BS and disenchanted / insulted their female fans.

I get the impression there are people still sour over that, and still sour that there isn't equal representation being played between the genders so they are defensive and protective over their selection of voice.

As for those who prefer Male!Hawke and are insulting F!Hawke's VA, I get the impression they are feeling threatened by this exposure which formerly has not been seen before.

Then again, there are those who really do just prefer F!Hawke over M!Hawke. I know I do, but it isn't my place to insult, belittle, or criticize another voice that I have no intention of playing with.

Well it boils down to preference yet again. In my opinion, his 'jerk' lines had enough emotion for me to make up my mind about it.

But yeah, need more of it to pass a final judgement, on that we can both agree.:)

Some BW press release about ME2 stats.

Correction it wasn't 20% it was 18. http://www.destructo...ng-188362.phtml

And 1/5 isn't significant enough to claim the purely subjective "Hale sounds miles better than Meer." to be a common attitude. I think Hale sounds terrible as Shepard. All I can think is "Stop trying so hard."

I constantly see you trying to make Females come off as some kind of as treated worse in all aspects, it's about all you post it seem

I remember about 2 months ago when you spent hours arguing that Bioware didn't care for their female fanbase purley due to the fact they aren't marketing towards them,

Its still 20% of the people they disconnected. I keep saying that if there was more exposure of her, more girl gamers would be interested in the franchise. I got hooked over a fan trailer, where they replaced M!Shepard with F!Shepard. Otherwise, I would still be uninterested in bioware.

I'm not narrowminded or hateful. I just like playing my own gender.

Yes but 20% isn't a majority and isn't a number you can then try to use to say "FemShep sounds better than Meer." frankly I'm female and I can't stand FemShep.

Though I would prefer more exposure of her I'm just baffled where this "She's so much better than Meer!" attitude comes from.

Did you even read my full post? You make a nasty habit of reading what you want and putting things out of proportion.

Here. I'll make it SUPER EASY for you and clip out the very thing that does NOT support your argument because you are an angry person who likes to try

The second statement can be applied for those who prefer M!Hawke over
F!Hawke. When they INSULT the F!Hawke's VA for the sole sake of being a
jerk (Like how people insult M!Hawke), it isn't fun.

Bioware didn't expose any information then. After people hankered and yelled and requested and asked, Bioware finally started releasing info and talkinga bout her. Maybe it was because people asked. Maybe it wasn't.

Now do me a favor and stop trolling my posts.

Does anyone know if there is a video of the same kind of demo with the male hawke?

Not that I don't mind the female, I think she's actually really good. Just want to hear the different perspective.
