Yeah, no one likes a flat character. Even Shepard is dynamic and player controlled characters in RPGs mostly stay flat all the way.

If Jack returns, Kasumi better too. The whole greybox with Kasumi seemingly plays a more important role story-wise than a crazy bald biznatch whose only real contribution to the story was blowing up the place where she grew up.

If everyone in mass effect 2 can die then that means that mass effect 3 will have entirely new squad mates and even a new commander. I think it's reasonable for bioware to do the voice work for both a commander shepard and a new commander in case you have a file where you killed off shepard in me2 but I don't find it reasonable for them to do the voice work, cutscenes etc for squadmates from me2 to apear in me3 and also on top of all that do all the work for new squadmates in case you kill everyone in me2, it's just too much work. As it is all logic points to completely new squadmates in me3.

If I really had to guess, I'd say that you'll probably get like 3-5 possible new squadmates based on how your import from ME2 goes. It is no easier to create/design/animate a new character and have it voiced than to bring back a previous character and do the same work. The only difference will be if they are in a certain playthrough or not.
Jack in particular is a character who really has nothing else to do except fight. Kind of like Grunt. Seems like sticking with Shepard would be something she might do. A character like Samara might be more suited to having a cameo 'LotSB-style' level you might get to do involving something happening in Asari space. I don't really think you can 'make' Samara do anything that she'd have to come back and kill you for. If you killed her, you could always get a Vasir-type ally during the mission. Besides, who really wants Morinth on their ship?

Tali- If she's not a black smear on your engine room wall, or lying in the collector base with a hole where her head used to be, she'll be back.
Garrus- He's your Bucky.
Grunt- He's your Wolverine.
Miranda and Jacob seem to have enough plot armor to get them to the 3rd game in some capacity- if you didn't make the effort to kill them. (More Miri than Jacob I suppose)
Zaeed and Kasumi... while I'm a big fan, I can only see them as being DLC squaddies again- and wouldn't have a problem with that.
Legion is the tough one. Seems like the reasonable emisary for the Geth and Shepard, and for those who don't have him, the Geth simply send an emisary to you because it is plot required.

Ultimately, I'm of the mind that if you PREPARE for the suicide mission YOU KNOW YOU ARE GOING ON, then you should have a greater survival rate. I don't buy the "It's a suicide mission! Half your crew should die!" argument. If you don't want to upgrade your shields, weapons and armor, you should be prepared to face the consequences. Other than the tech/biotic specialist choice, you can argue the validity of the team leaders.
My first playthrough had only Mordin die holding the line. Legion was my tech, Samara my biotic and Garrus my team leader both times because it just made sense to me. Didn't check the forums or any kind of spoilers at all. I sent Zaeed back with the crew. That playthrough is about as much attrition as I would expect from a fully prepared squad.

I'm tired of all these "Jack should grow hair" threads! Haven't you seen the concept arts? She used to have more clothes and longer hair in them BUT they got rejected: why? Because they weren't good enough. Jack's current character design is here to stay. Expect only minor changes, like Ash' or Wrex's new armor which still look similar to what they used to wear in ME1.

I hope we'll see more of Jack in ME3, in one way or another.It will be interesting to see how the writers will handle her personality, if they change her personality due to the fact that she might be less of a pariah now, or if they keep her as she is in ME2.

The topic is Jack, and I've said my piece about her. I have no doubt she'll be back, hopefully without a re-design, and still kicking ass. I don't see why she wouldn't. She's as dead as the rest of the galaxy if Shepard fails, so she has nothing to gain from leaving the party early... But I can totally see that she'd leave once it's all over. She's supposed to become the Pirate Queen, remember? ;]
