I bought ME1 off of Steam the other day, installed it, updated it, but it will not run.

I've turned on compatibility mode, I have vereify game cache, un-installed it and re-installed it as well. I really don't know what else to do at this point. :(

Have I missed anything that could help me? Thank you. :)

We need more information to help you.  Run Dxdiag.exe and tell us what processor, graphics card, operating system, and amount of system RAM you have.

The Geforce 9100 is likely the problem.  It's a very weak graphics card, insufficient to play Mass Effect.  Mass Effect's minimum system requirement is a Geforce 6800 GT.  While that is a couple generations older than the 9100, it's also at the high end of its generation, while the 9100 is at rock bottom of its generation.  Probably the only way to get it to run will be to buy a better graphics card; a graphics card capable of playing Mass Effect and other modern games will cost around $75.

Still, just in case that graphics card can actually run Mass Effect, first make sure you have DirectX 9.0c. Windows 7 doesn't come with that pre-installed, and Mass Effect needs it to run.  Download it here.

If that works, Mass Effect will still run slow as molasses.  You'll have to turn all the graphics settings as low as possible.  In "My Computer", go to C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass effect\\Binaries\\MassEffectConfig.  In the window that pops up, go to "Video" and enter these settings:

Aspect Ratio: Normal (4:3)
Resolution: 800 x 600
Particle Effects: Low
Texture Detail: Low
Filtering Mode: Point
Uncheck Dynamic Shadows and VSync.

That's a bummer. :( Thank you for the help though. :)

I'll be getting a new rig here in 1-2 months, so I'll just wait till then to play ME. Cheers!

It is a bit strange that it won't even run. I imagine you could probably correct that with some troubleshooting.

However, the 9100 is indeed not sufficient for the game, and you will get horrible frame rates. If you're getting a computer with a better GPU that soon, holding off and not wasting time troubleshooting the 9100 sounds like the best course of action. *thumbs up*
