For this quest, you're supposed to cast Protection from Evil, correct? What henchman can cast this spell? and is there any other way to complete this quest without having to cast this spell? Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi!
With the default AI none of the henchmen can be told to cast PoE. But you can find two wands of Karlat (somewhere in that lavel, forget where exactly) - they are usable by any class and one casts PoE.

Without that casting Belial will suddendly attack your party. You can try to take him down but it will be really tough.

Tough? Well, that sounds like a lot of fun & XPs. Forget about the protection. Just take him down. That's your job after all...

OK for the fun, soweway less for the XPs (depending on the class); I took Belial down after seeing Grimgnaw fall and I finished him with my greatsword (it was the Rashemi's). If I don't go wrong the XPs where some more by choosing to get his oath but if you count the other XPs coming by condemning one of the two brothers it could be worth. Don't remember well since I chose to kill him only one time with a "commander package" fighter.
Really, it was tough! Can't recall the number of healing kits I spent.

Hi all.
Replaying this amazing game, after so much time
So, my Wizard 6 / Fighter 4 / Torm Champion 3 studied how to defeat Belial *solo*. Keep in mind I am playing with some mod installed (I think Tony K or something) that makes foes more intelligent and harder to fight.
Now, the only +3 melee weapon I found was some two-bladed sword Corellon I could not wield, and due to Belial's immense spell resistance, damage reduction and damage resistance, I realised there was only ONE way to damage Belial in melee (i.e., if you're not a Cleric or a Rogue setting tons of Holy Traps)... And that is wielding a weapon that deals SONIC damage. Since I had sold all those that Marrok the Smith did in Chapter 1, I had to count on luck in finding one that did it - and it is the Rift Hammer. Acid, Cold, etc... he is immune to all these, but not sonic. Obviously, I have to cast True Strike as much as possible, hit and then go invisible to re-srtike. Or use the Elven Court Bow which I got from that Helm Protector before Desther fight.
First time I try a build like this on - ah, and worse of all damage-wise, i chose Finesse build, meaning my Strength is very limited. But still an excellent tactical build, and I enjoyed very much discovering this on my own
.
EDIT: and now I knoe that killing him earns you 480 XP
. Man, and I did not die once (this is a very powerful build indeed, playing on hardest difficulty and no cheats)!
EDIT 2: oh Lord, now I notice the last message was from 7 months ago.... Nevermind, this goes to the Library of Arcane Knowledge
