I don't have a problem with any DRM as long as it plays nice with my
computer. So not a thread about the benefits/drawback of DRM, just a
question regarding the flavour of DRM on the steam version.
I was wondering if the Steam version of NWN2 came with DRM. Any other DRM is fine, just not the one that came with the CD since it tended to wreck havok with my DVD drives. I could fix the issue by deleting DVD controllers and restarting the computer 2-3 times after running NWN2, but would prefer a cleaner option since I've recently put a squeeky clean Win7 install on my computer a year or 2 ago. This may encourage me to bug the Steam version: especially if it is also more compatible with Win7-64 bit.
I seem to recall that the DVD in drive requirement was patched out of the DVD version, but since the DVD version installed the DRM regardless of the patching, it still effected my computer.
Is the CD DRM on Steam version of NWN2

Well, you're getting it from Steam, so no.
Plus, the disc check was patched out prior to the last version of the game, so it wouldn't be there anyways as long as you're patched up. Which with Steam you are.

As the Steam version is patched to latest and the SecureROM check was patched out at 1.22, I'd give that a qualified YES it's gone or NO it's not there.

I think what foil is asking is whether or not it was simply disabled or actually removed. It is an issue with his DVD drive having problems. I honestly do not know for sure.

I'd guess the version has some Steam DRM, but the cd DRM was patched out.
I bought steam version anyway since if I ever have to reinstall it's up to date and I don't have to wait for all the patches to dl.

Exactly. Patching resulted in removal after installation of DRM, so the same effect on the DVD drives.
