Some people hate religion so much that that much is too much... yet many of them love Knights of the Old Republic, which is littered with conversations about religous and psuedo religous topics... go figure.  I think it's just the remote possibility that Ashley may be *gasp* Christian that make people hate those lines so much, though given the content of those, she could be any number of religions.  The lines themselves, were rather neutral in all respects with the exception of the line regarding people thinking that "just because you work in space that you can't believe in God," which has a slight defensive quality to it... though in all honesty, it's an understandable defensiveness.  Anyways, if I remember right, the religous conversation lasts about two minutes out of over half an hour of possible conversations with her.  Oh well... there's humor for you... hating her because she's religous and hating her because she's bigoted in the same breath.

Chose Liara with my first male Shep and stayed true to her in ME2. Rekindling things in LotSB was great.

My FemShep is single in ME1, and may have a meaningless fling with Kelly in ME2.

My other MaleShep had a relationship with Ash in ME1 and will end up cheating on her with Miranada in ME2 mostly to see the epic blowup/catfight/Shep get his ass kicked by Ash in ME3. :D

Derp.

Accidentally romanced Ashley in my first play through (didn't realise there were romances).

6 play throughs after that I romanced Ashley (on purpose, this time :P). Fighting prowess, interest in literature, belief in a higher power, brash attitude and hot to boot. My Shepard didn't grasp the full extent of his predicament with the Reapers in ME1, but in ME2 and most likely ME3 he's gonna be fully focused. Romance is going to take a back seat but he's still hopeful for a future with Ash.

None. First of all, my Shep would have considered romancing someone under his command to be unethical. And really, the only options that I find appealing are Joker and Doctor Chakwas, anyway.

i tried all male romances once from ME1 and ME2 never kept the saves (Tali is like a sister to my renegadeShep)
had a couple of saves with Liara as LI with my vanguard and infiltrator but the main Shepard is a soldier with Ashely as LI
she has strong views ..not-so-popular or esey to agree with ..that is why she's the most realistic of all LIs...and never had any other LI since i first romanced Ash ( i find her the best squad mate in ME1 ..she outlives Wrex even in combat ..that was a surprise for me )
i like the cut-scene you get before the suicidal mission if you don't have any LIs in ME2 ...Shepard looks at Ash's picture ..cracks his knuckles ...and thinks ... let's kick some collector ass

Call me old-fashioned, but when I go for romances, even virtual ones, I intend to keep them. I don't find any joy in cheating or juggling, and I certainly don't find any interest in the "friends-with-benefits" policy.

Because of that, I didn't end up having Ashley, Miranda, or Jack as any of my LIs. They're really great characters (even if Jack does swear a lot and admittedly scares me a bit), but they all treated the romance thing as "stress-relief," or something to do while waiting to fly off into the centre of the galaxy to shoot some aliens, which kind of went against my views on the whole romance thing. (Besides, they're all humans. Why play a game with alien romances if you end up romancing humans like in real life?)

I ended up with Tali (of course, haven't seen many who didn't try it at least!). I loved her character from both games, and because of the danger quarians face with "intimate" relationships, and the emphasis quarian culture puts on family, it really felt just wrong to "touch and go" with someone who could potentially die from that touch. And even though it didn't really seem like it was presented as a "permanent" relationship, I could understand why the writers at BioWare would choose to take that element out of it. There's no future in promising love, then dying on the suicide mission a few weeks later. It was a good theme that the writers did well to include.

It was a tough choice between her and Liara, but in the end, I remembered that Liara finds her own companion in the form of that drell from Lair of the Shadow Broker. In a fit of extra-sensory perception, I decided that she'd do better if she could have her own partner, and I could have mine.

I went with Ashley. I liked that she was tough, smart, and independant. I enjoyed the way she could banter with Shepard and other crewmembers. I liked that her family was important to her and that she was keeping the tradition of military service. My Shepard had the "war hero / military family" background, so I felt there would be a connection there. I enjoyed the conversations with her, and I liked that she was open to having her views on aliens challenged. I had intended to be loyal. Then came ME2 and the confrontation on Horizon. I can understand her being shocked at Shepard working with Cerberus, but not giving him a chance to explain and accusing him of treason was too much. The email was too little, too late.

In the meantime, I had been talking to Miranda and discovered the human being hidden under the ice queen exterior. She is just as tough and independant as Ashley, and highly intelligent. Her awkwardness with meeting her sister and later admission of her insecurities got to me, and I decided to romance her instead. Maybe it was a case of "hormones before the suicide mission" but I felt there was a connection. Especially when she told TIM to stick it. I plan to remain with her through ME3.

As a player, Miranda intrigues me for several reasons. For one, my Shepard is a paragon, and she is a bit of a bad girl, and an obvious LI choice for a renegade. I also like that her situation could be complicated in ME3. Bioware said there might be consequences for cheating, so I'm curious about that too. I'm looking forward to seeing if I can make it all work out.

He chose Ashley. And she didn't like him for some reason and he ended up all alone. :(
