With the downturn in the economy, I had to let them all go.

are really most of you so entitled and lazy to just say to a friend hey dude you should give the demo a chance?
How does making a remark to a friend about a demo for a game we like make us entitled and lazy?
I think he was saying that about the ones who were complaining about it.

Bioware can pay for their own marketing.

You never refer any products to your friends? Ever?

BioWare should have more faith in their customers than to feel the need to quantify word of mouth.
I've already hyped up their game plenty, and convinced many to buy the first game through my own personal correspondence.
When they offer rewards for doing something that I have been doing for free since Baldur's Gate 1 - it feels like I'm being talked down to.
'Call to Arms' they say? I've already been armed for a decade upselling their titles. I don't need the call.

Products I've used and enjoyed, yes.
Products I have not yet used, no.

I think people are taking the “need” to do it too far. I doubt they “need” you to do anything to get them to sell their game for them. That thinking is a bit asinine. It’s like going to a local bakery or store and have them say, “Thanks for your business! Refer a friend to us and get a free bagel!” Then having the customer flip them off. Word of mouth has been used for a very long time in sales, Bioware isn’t exclusive to that.
I look at it as a way to get the community involved in something.
So, you’ve been doing it already--for nothing and you were fine with that, but if they offer a incenntive, that is talking down to you? I just don’t get it.

Fair enough. Let me ask this: Have you've never tried something that a friend referred it to you? A song you haven't heard. A book you've never read. A movie you've never seen?

Also, if they don't get one million, are they just gonna hold back content just cus? That would be a bit lame. Sure, the content is just some extra money and XP, but still...

Yes but on the presumption that the friend referring it has read the book themselves. Which was his point. This is a demo. He'll wait to play it before referring it to a friend. It might be crap.

I have.
But again, those people are usually recommending something that they've actually used/heard/read/seen.
Let me guess - you're going to suggest I recommend it after I DL it myself?

To sum up, my opinion of this mirrors Maggie Smith's opinion of naked body snatching.

I would never presume to tell you or anyone else what to do. I am just trying to grasp some understanding of the outrage. I am sure if you told a friend to download a free demo and it didn’t turn out to be their thing--they would endeavor to make you feel bad about it, or think less of you. And just because they have seen it, or read it, doesn’t mean you’ll like it. Just the other day a friend recommended a movie to me and it was horrible, we’re still great friends. However, you can do what you want and it won’t change anything. It’s the great thing about having options.

I'm not outraged, really. I'm amused.
You know how I heard about Origins? Saw a commercial on TV. Checked out some info on the net. Decided to buy it.
You know how I know about DA2? I read these forums. Otherwise, you know what? I'd be clueless.
I find the marketing strategy for this game a joke, basically. So I'm just having some fun here. Nothing I've said was intended to be serious . . well, except for this post.
