With the ridiculous amount of pre-release bonus items, I'm beginning to wonder if the vanilla game even has items.

That would be amusing!

I agree they hit the level of 'too much bribery' long ago.

Everything Bioware does justifies my decision to leave off buying the game until it's been out a few weeks.  Something just doesn't feel right.

DAO has the same number of promotional items, or at least a similar number.

The Irony of Biowares 'call to arms' shouldn't be lost on you...yet they still remain those  whom are willfully ignorant .Regardless of restrictions upon restrictions of control imposed on the paying customers gaming experience..
They has been a call to arms on PC over the last several years...and more and more people are becoming vocal and not making a purchase to boot.

one million players ! easy ;)

Then I suggest you take some interest in the PC platform...because a Title has to have really really good content for it to surpass 1 million players.

When you restrict the amount of quality content and your marketing strategy is to offer less for more. Then it makes sense the target for your  marketing will be console. There is indeed a war going on  and if you remain impassive then their efforts to consolize the platform are made that much easier.Viola STEAM !

It's always amusing to me those that claim PC is dying/dead...when the real fact is it has by far the largest pool of gamers. There are approx 500 million active gamers on PC.

Even if you are oblivious to or have no interest in the political side of gaming...just ponder on this little fact and try to think why ?

There are more people still playing COD4 ...than MW2.

Finally...any negativity I bring to a topic is justified .Being negative does not therefore imply you are trolling when it is matter of fact.

You are getting a shorter game and having content withheld.
You are being asked to pay for more..in the form of  DLC
You are being forced to 'be always connected' for a single play game.
They are sitting on DLC right now even before the games release.

I may personally (and it's no  secret)dislike Biowares change in direction over storyline ......but I certainly don't stand against the evolution of the  rpg genre. ....this isn't what I am about.
Which is why I ignore the deeply hurtfull and spitefully uninformed troll comments.

Could a dev please finally answer a ridiculously simple question about the items?

Are the books actually readable in a codex form in any way or are they ONLY Hp/$ boost?

Why can't you answer this simple yet very important question? Thank you for your time.

I feel your pain, but if they won't even answer which (if any) of the romances are same-gender, what makes you think they'll answer this?

Dragon Age players, this is your call to arms! We need one million players of the Dragon Age 2 demo and we want you to rally the troops to reach this monumental goal. Tell your friends, tell your family, talk about it on Facebook, Twitter, talk about it at school and at work. We want One Million downloads of the Dragon Age 2 demo and we need you to rally the troops to reach this goal.

If we reach One Million downloads, we will reward players with 2 new in-game items the Lothering’s Lament and Far Cliffs of Kirkwall tomes. And don’t forget, anyone who completes the demo will get the in-game item Hayden’s Razor. All 3 items will be available on all platforms for Dragon Age 2.

We need you to rally your troops and heed this call to arms!

Philby, I did say that having a negative opinion in here would not go down well, as I have a few days ago (and got attacked not only by fanboys but Bioware staff too).

I also stated that the only people who are flaming and attacking others are all the 'blind sheep' (and sorry, but I have no other suitable term to describe the mentality of some posters here), not a single person who is undecided on the new direction of Bioware's marketing and the game, or are trying to point out the ridiculousness of all this, have attacked another poster in this thread.

This speaks volumes to me.

I see only one post of a dev that was directed by you, made by John Epler, but it doesn't seem attacking you in my opinion. I could be wrong though.
Anyways, I think that the problem of this forum is that a lot of people of both side insult each others. It's really a shame. I love to talk with people that have different opinion (especially about politic), but a lot of times the most interesting threads in this forum become full of flame and insult. I wish people could discuss and defend their position without insulting each other.

Well, I can understand withholding info like romances and same gender for anticipation sake (your Hawke will not know who is into same gender until he/she meets them right?). I'm not saying they shouldn't answer, but at least there is a method to the madness.

The DLC stuff? You want us to hussle and get people to reach 1,,000,000 and you are offering items with description of them and explaining how much XP/money they grant. Why then not answer whether these are also codex entires?

I think they are not answering that because, while I hope for the best, the "books" do not have any poems/codex value, so if they say so outright, people like myself will get turned off and not buy or promote the demo, especially I preordered anyway. I could frankly care less if an item gives me more HP. Well, at least I won't go out of my way and spend time promoting the demo for that.

However, if they are indeed, for the first time, offering CODEX + HP/money, then it's something I'm very passionate about. I think it's insane and a mockery of codex books to release "books" that you can't read anything in (not even one codex entry). I think they're missing out tremendously by not drawing the reader fans more with marketing and DLCs. Then again, their statistics might have indicated that not that many fans opened codex entries in DA:O, so they don't smell cash in promoting readable material. I don't have any statistical data to argue, but if there are indeed many fans like myself out there, they'd be wise to offer more content like that.

This is the part that's going to make up your mind whether to tell others about the promo or evebn play the demo itself?

Really?  Wow.

I'm not gonna hold friends back from downloading the demo or not promote the game we're all looking forward to, but YES, if going strictly from a standpoint of being rewarded by their items (and there are certainly many other reasons to promote DA2), I am NOT attracted by picking up fake books that give money. Why not put a treasure chest then? Why give books with titles that has always meant codex entries in DA:O?

I am hopping that what we're getting is a combo of codex + whatever is advertised. The fact that they can't simply SAY whether codex is involved raises suspicion that the items may be, after all, just fake books.

Gah. I wasn't going to play the demo as i want it all to be new when i get the game on the 11th. If it's looking as though the one million number wont be passed, i'll play it. I'll make sure that all of my friends know its existence in any case.

I can't ask my friends to DL the game because they would begin to tell me how I should stop playing "those games".

Most of my friends are console, and I remain a PC, so I get the 'why don't you get a PS3?" speech.

Lol. Friends are the best. I have PS3, Apple, PC,  and xpoks friends but they would still tell me that "you should stop playing those games".

WAIT.... we're only getting those two items if 1 million people download it? That's unfair, especially since I doubt we'll reach 1 million. I mean, I'm still going to download it because, it's the demo and all that, but still. 1 million seems a tad unreasonable......

Then again, you are Bioware. Unreasonable is your middle name. surely they can't be serious!

Have you read the book that came with the DAO limited edition? It will be like that.

'Book' doesn't automatically mean 'Codex entry' - it could easily be an amulet, a potion, anything consumable in fact.

So really doubtful that these are going to be codex entries.

What do Gaiders books have to do with whether this is codex entry or not?

Same here almost, most of my friends who I have asked know what the game is about (4 of them have either the PS3 or 360 version of DAO) but are very EA weary :? (especially with the you must login with an ea account for a demo <_<)
