Well, the more suprising thing is the last 400+k in less than 7 hours. 

I don't think we even broke 300k in the first 24 hours.

speed has slowed to 50/min (~70000 per day) back from 800/min (~120000 per day) earlier. It seems that downloads happen in waves every few hours. But it seems that we will easily make it either way.

I'm still not convinced these are actually people downloading it, but Bioware just having a preset "counter" there, this was all a marketing ploy from the beginning, we were meant to have the items no matter what

It was ~400K when I looked yesterday and ~800K when I looked the morning and now I am VERY curious where and why this sudden jump. It's not the weekend. It's not that XBox silver users have access (does it? I thought they got it March 1?). And I thought the European PS3 users got it yesterday. Right?

This was always going to pay off, whether it was "legitimate" or not (they may be counting raw download numbers now, instead of unique EA accounts). They want to be able to put out a press release saying that more than a million people downloaded the demo. Very very badly. So bad it ACHES.

it goes in spurts. being sick has given me plenty of time to watch the counter. We actually were over the 300k mark by a fair bit after the first 24 hours.
