1. Many people who downloaded the game and couldn't get it to run may have fixed their problems and can now login and play.
2. Awareness of the demo is now becoming more widespread as downloaders tell their friends, family and fellow gamers about how good (or not so good when it comes to some people) the demo was. Remember not everyone pays attention to the marketing, the official site or these social forums who would eventually buy this game. So word of the demo takes some time to reach the majority of the gaming masses.
Edit: It will be interesting to see if Bioware manages to get 2 million or so downloads/logins if they haven't unofficially changed the rules. Not only would they have a lot of bragging rights, but sales of DA2 may skyrocket on the first day. Proving that if you have an excellent or even flawless game, demos may be the way to go marketing wise.

This was always going to pay off, whether it was "legitimate" or not (they may be counting raw download numbers now, instead of unique EA accounts). They want to be able to put out a press release saying that more than a million people downloaded the demo. Very very badly. So bad it ACHES.
I think the numbers are probably accurate, but you are right about that and I wouldn't put it past EA or whoever is responsible. They do stuff like this all the time. I remember when ME2 was released... they made countless dummy facebook accounts to "like" the ME2 facebook and had thousands of trash twitter accounts to talk about ME2.

it goes in spurts. being sick has given me plenty of time to watch the counter. We actually were over the 300k mark by a fair bit after the first 24 hours.
It did over 400k in less than 7 hours. That's what seems a bit....illegitimate about this last sudden burst in activity.

Yeah Viral Marketing, insidious practise. Aren't these supposed to be new accounts too? Thinking about it, if they achieve that goal it is impressive. It took BSB over a year to generate that many new customers. So having an EA account doesn't make someone an EA consumer per se but it sure makes it easier to become one.

Upon completion of the demo, players will unlock a special weapon, Hayder's Razor. I picked it up, but it doesn't show up in the unlockables. Will this change upon release of the actual game?
It should show up with all the other stuff.

I'm still at a lost for the weapon for completing the Demo. Is it automatically registered with our EA account or will they send us a code in order to download it on DA2? The site doesn't say one way or the other.
Automatically registered upon completion as long as you're signed in to your EA account. If you go to to Profile, then Your Registered Game Promotions. It should show up there.
(sorry for the double post)

I'll download the demo, if it will help the numbers. But I have no intention of playing it.
It won't count. You have to log in and play for it to register.

Most of which over lap in some way. The jumps are pretty consistant with each other and the biggest ones came as the different groups were able to finally access the demo's. So they are within the realm of possibility of being completely legitimate numbers. It's been a somewhat steady rise at other points.

So if I play the demo on 360 too what will that do? Will I still be able to get Hayders Razor?
Yes, if you play the demo to completion on every system you will get it on every system, if you play it only on one, you'll get it only on that one... and for what it's worth you don't need gold to unlock it on 360, you just need to wait a week, it'll be available on silver one week after it released on Gold.
Thank you so much SorrowAndJoy7!!! and chulaq!!! I am so happy to hear the good news! And thank God/Maker I can save 20 bucks too lol!!!
ALMOST A MILLION LESS THAN 200,000 people need to play the demo!!!! Now maybe we can get something for reaching 2,000,000 lol!!!
