The counter doesn't count how many people actually played the demo but how many people pressed the link to download the demo, which lead to a lot of people spamming the link to increase it. In truth, we're probably under 500k people who played the demo itself and I'm not even sure it counts the people on the consoles.

What? Why would it do that? They said it counted the people with EA accounts who downloaded? How'd we find that out?

think Dave is wrong as they said they count people that connect to thier bioware accounts in game

Offer expires March 1, 2011. Requires Internet connection, EA account,
ownership of Dragon Age II ("Product") for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
or PC. The Demo must be downloaded by 1 million users across the Xbox

Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are available at www.ea.com. Must be 13+ to create an EA
account. Valid everywhere Product is sold. To access items in the
Product , you must be logged into the Product using the same EA account
that you used to register your Product and 1 million users must have
downloaded the Demo within the time period specified. Items are
nontransferable. May not be combined with any other offer, gift card,
rebate or discount coupon. Void where prohibited, taxed or restricted by

That is from dragonage.bioware.com/info/demo/ at the bottom

Don't tell me that Bioware was being generous with docking the counter, because I would find that hard to believe.

This.  I was expecting that someone would "cheat" from the first time they announced it..  Any half-decent programmer could probably write a bot that would create new email accounts, create new (legitimate!) EA accounts, download the demo, log in, uninstall the demo, and repeat.  I have a friend who wrote a bot that does all his Warcraft herb-gathering for him.  So what?  What on earth are they trying to prove via this million downloads thing anyway?

I fully expect the counter will get high again several times and get docked again.  Oh well.

Looking from the script on the page, the counter add one each time someone press the download button for English/French/...

And I can't find any script that would lead me to believe demo from Xbox Live and PSN are count as a download.

Hang on just a minute! Earlier the count was at over 700 000, now it's down to 533 434???

[Edit] Ok I'm a bit slow...

All lies, you have to register an account on EA via E-mail. There is no way they (EA) can figure out if you made more accounts than one. And no way in hell 300k people thought about doing this at the same time. Never expected this from BioWare.

We have noticed some people spamming the demo that has caused incorrect numbers on the download counter. As such, we have to remove roughly 300k from the counter to correct the false numbers.

Keep promoting this to your friends. I knwo you'll get there in time, even by having to play fair. ;)

How on earth did you work this out? How can anyone "spam" the demo if it is meant to be linked to an EA account?

Did I cause link spamming from having 3 downloads fail mid-download and having to re-initialize it?

For the record all this fuss is about:

2 items which probably give you a negligible amount of money and exp in game. Derp.

Since that seems to be the case if/when console downloads are/will be added or counted. If they havn't been already then I can see 1 million. If they've already been counted then well..... :crying:

The page code only counts how many times the download is clicked.

Surely they must have anticipated this? Big FAIL Bioware!
If this is the way it works then it is impossible to get an accurate figure.

That would be Bioware's problem for making it that way for the PC.

Xbox 360 and PS3 counts will added when the counts are made available.

I'm confused about it too. Why bother giving a counter if it won't count any mirror site, Steam, consoles and such?

EA decided they wanted more downloads bend over *fans*

What a joke next time market your on game and don't lie about spamming 300k downloads. It clearly says in the terms and conditions of the official site that it only counts each unique ea account how can you spam that ?

Creating multiple accounts and using them to sign in. Easy.Though I'm curious to see how they determine a spam - myself and my brother both played it on different accounts sharing an internet connection but different computers.

Not to mention that Bioware advertised it as people having to log-in in to the demo, regardless of the platform, in order to make the counter work.

I have a tinfoil hat conspiracy, but I'll avoid pointing fingers until (and if) we get the reasoning.

What a joke! We've just been doing Bioware's advertising for them for the last few days. No way we're gonna be able to reach 1 million now!

Because... They are no longer called BioWare. They are called BioWare a division of Electronic Arts.

 IT says ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

The explanation is easy: They offer this promotion so that we advertise the game for them for free and in 2 days they almost reached the goal (so 5 days left) why not drop the number and say whatever they want SO THAT WE CONTNOU ADVERTISING FOR FREE as simple as that……Image IPB
