Yeah, we're never going to get the books unfortunately. *sigh*

Couldn't the counter have been based on unique EA accounts instead of clicking on the download link?

Also sucks how the items we'd get for doing this can easily be accessed on the PC. *cries*

They have said that they're going to link the counter to the EA account. I really don't know why they decided to follow another methos (that makes the spamming easier<_<)

Not a hope in hell, the increments are too consistant.

Well, what can you learn from this? If you say one thing, then do another and allow people to cheat that system because it is way too easy to exploit, then there will be some people that exploit it. Guys, next time you say that what counts is being loged in while playing the demo, do only that. Either scrap the whole counter and release updated numbers of accounts that played regularly, or program the counter in a proper way.

Or really DOESN'T want it, if they think this will cause Bioware to not release the items.

There's no one in the office at the moment to put a stop to this, at the very least they should have had a script checking for repeat IP's

There's no way they can stop this because they took the lazy way out instead of reporting the real numbers. This is stupid. All anyone has to do is write a simple shell script that loops a bunch of wget commands to the download URL through an IP randomizer site.

Bioware, you screwed the pooch on this one.

An IP randomizer site can switch 300 IP's in just 15 seconds?

truthfully?

i bet a incredibly skilled hacker could make it do more then 20 times that.

but a average hacker could likely do it.

so, it wouldn't surprised me is where im getting at.

wouldn't it be funny as hell if the counter was programed for when it reaches 1,000,000, to automatically give everyone the items.

Bioware are in a no win situation now, if they let it run people are going to shout cheat, if they put it back people are going to moan.

It is not about who knows more at all. The way the counter seems to work they are really just asking for someone to be bored enough to abuse it.

And they also could have tied it to unique account logins (like they actually said they would) which would have made it much more complicated to mess with.

You don't have to be a dev to know that. ;)
