Somebody's been spamming...!

The counter jumped up way too fast to be taken seriously.

Expecting a rollback of downloads very soon.

Someone will have to get out of bed early to pull the plug!

Not if one is European. It's 1:24 PM here right now... In other words, it is 13:24 (at the moment of the edit it was 13:32).

Well they can see who has played the demo while logged into their EA accounts, so getting the real number shouldn't be difficult, but do they dare to lower the counter?

I forsee this turning into either "the download stats were hacked, we don't know how many we got, so here's the items anyway" or they'll contact EA and get the REAL login numbers (seriously, they must have those stats. They seem to track bloody everything after all)

It's kinda sad that we can't really get excited at the counter now :(

1 day later.

"Word back from EA, the official count is 999,999. Sorry guys, no soup for you."

If it was up to 4chan then there wouldn't be any counter at all. I'm pretty sure they'd attack the site with DDoS attacks, too.

I don't get why they tempt us with such stupid items. At least all we have to do for these ones it just play the demo and I won't lie I'm okay with that lol

Fishy counter with 2400 numbers in a minute....I expect foul play.

Prepare to lose probably close to 400k accounts...until the spamming ceases, the counter will continue to misrepresent the actual data.

I wouldn't be surprised if the counter is pulled completely and they do manual updates every few hours.

Cause lets face it if someone who hasn't honestly downloaded and signed in looked at it now they would say "Oh well, they don't need me to download it now" and we would lose a legitimate download since someone spammed the hell out it.

Well my issue is is that they tell us there is spamming which we can all see but how are they coming up with the number of downloads they are rolling back seems like they just picked a random number.

My guess is to make the suits happy, suits like big numers. Since RPG demos are not that interesting to begin with (you can't demo a RPG game in 45 minutes), I guess the dl numbers are generally low. Promess a few trinkets and you have a big number (wow a MILLION, that's big), suits happy (wow a MILLION, that's buzz), customers happy (wow  trinket, shiny) (well, except those who didn't like the pointless demo) what's not to like.

They succeeded, I did download the demo (which I would never have done without the trinket), I hope they win something more important with that :) .

Somebody cheated... that counter was only half as high a couple hours ago... you'd think the free items included the freaking Excalibur. People are cheating this hardcore for some free gold and exp? (assumes cheating)

I anticipate some headdesking at Bioware. Or at least a facepalm or two. Seeing as the counter has passed 1mil and setting it back will cause some consternation, Bioware may as well throw in the two books with the Razor for completing the demo instead.

Of course this isn't me telling them what to do, just a thought is all.

Bioware has to take responsibility for a poorly designed implementation of the counter. It's nothing more than a java counter that increments if the URL contains the download URL.

Maybe there has been a huge surge in downloads with it being the start of the weekend, which means more people could have the time to download the demo.
