It's not just like one computer every year, but like 1-2 components every few years, and a whole new one (for things like case, mobo, etc not just cpu or gfx) every four+ years
And it's not like the parts I get are pricy at the time, but like $150~ at hte time

My PC cost me roughly £800; exept since that includes a 3D capable moniter, and nVidia shutter glasses, the actual PC cost around the same as a PS3 on release. It is twice as powerful as any console and as such will not need any major upgrades for a good four to five years, and they can be done in small chunks.
I saved up for it for three months for it. These days, with glorious 3D gaming, I don't touch my consoles anymore.
On every game I buy I save £10/$15 since PC games are (nearly) always cheaper. If I buy ten games that I would have bought on consoles i've saved £100 right there. Thats not even getting into Steam and the obscene offers they boast at times.
PC games often also have mods. I've sunk *thousands* of hours into Origins (with the tweaks), Oblivion (with the almost literally limitless ammount of player-made content), Fallout 3/NV (for the same reason, but to a lesser extent), and Neverwinter Nights (with all the modules). And my latest obsession? Minecraft, which ate my attention for weeks, and liekly will again when it has working multiplayer.
On-Topic: Woohoo! we are slowly, ever so slowly, getting there!

which is too expencive, its cheaper to get a console and not have to pay to upgrade it each time a game comes out (which does happen when the closest price you can aford is just the minnimum specs), in order for me to be able to play dragon age 2 on pc i would have to buy a whole new computer (mine is built from scrap parts anywhere between 5-15 years old from junk pcs from the dump and dumpsters), cheapest i can get one with just the minimum specs is $734 not including possible s/h which is $734 more then i have. i'd like to play on pc i can't afford itGvazElite wrote...
I'm running components where I upgrade parts every few years, like 3+ I'm using a cpu that was midrange in 2009 that I bought in then, a gpu from two years ago I just bought last year to replace a dead gpu I bought in 2008, and the mobo I got last year too. Before that I was using a cpu from 2005, probably bought in 2006?

Don't you say that. Don't you ever say that.Unlike halo, COD, Gears of War, that get that many copies sold in just the first week or so. It is just one of those sad facts of life that the RPG genre may actually die out.

Go check out walmart or something then. You can get min specs for cheaper than this... With a monitor. for like $500 or close to it depending on what your taxes are without even shopping around. I pretty much built a computer with recommended specs for only like $900 I think.

Keep in mind that many of those games their sales also drop off to nearly nothing after that initial rush. The rush lasting depending on availability of copies. A little longer when copies are a bit harder to come by. Other game genre's don't quite follow that same trend with exception of maybe sports games.
So RPG's aren't necessarily going to go anywhere just because they don't have quite the same initial burst that certain others do.

Very true. Most RPGs spread in popularity by word-of-mouth, while shooters are typically so hype-blasted that people can't help but make it a day 1 purchase and then stop playing it when they get bored with it or when another hype-blasted FPS comes out. Menewhile people are still buying and playing RPGs from10 years ago.

Yeah, the whole 'expensive PC' argument is a strawman at best. It can be a hefty ammount initially, but it also saves you money in the long run.

Yes, it was. Priestly posted that they removed a bunch because people were artificially inflating the counter by initiating multiple downloads.

I am not really surprised that there hasent been 1 million dowloads and such already. First of all is the whole having an EA account. Secondly the genre itself is dying out. Any sort of true RPG will for the most part be lucky to get over 2 million copies of the game sold in its life. Unlike halo, COD, Gears of War, that get that many copies sold in just the first week or so. It is just one of those sad facts of life that the RPG genre may actually die out.
Really? As much as I don't like Two Worlds 2 (okay it's high level as Bioware, CDProjekt, Obsidian, Bethesda Softworks etc.) it managed to sell 1 million in mainland europe alone. It hasn't even launched in the UK yet. So imagine what figures it could achieve.
So no, RPG isn't a dying genre, it just has a smaller fanbase than most, however games that are Horror, Puzzle, Sport and Adventure sell equally as well as FPS and RPGs are on par with those game genres in terms of fanbases. There is an huge RPG fanbase, the only issue is people have such varied opinions on what RPG is and how they enjoy it (Single player combat or Party Based combat? Voiced or non-voiced? Defined Character or Player Character? Linear or Free Roam? MMO or Single player? etc). But I know Bioware games have sold very well, especially the likes of ME and I think, looking at this year, 2011 will be the return of RPGs.
