An "uproar" for who, Bioware, or the fans?  All they did was remove false downloads, which is exactly what they should be doing so that the same few thousand people aren't continually downloading and redownloading to pad how many "people" actually downloaded the demo.  

If anything, they should have simply put a restriction on how many times you could download from the same IP per hour or 24 hour period.  They couldn't really block the IP after a single download, because it would prevent people with legitimate problems from getting the demo again unless they were simply ushered to an alternate link that's specifically setup for those who are trying to download again.

And the people arguing about Bioware's wording on "downloads" need to get a grip.  It takes all of a second to realize exactly what they are talking about.  They probably didn't worry about semantics because they were being naive enough to not even believe this problem of the same people downloading multiple times would surface in the first place.  Congrats on having their faith in you misplaced.

I think the issue is down to the fact that some people are making EA accounts and logging in on the Demo.. I think that is what counts towards the vote, when you log in with your EA account, not the actual download.

My guess would be that someone made a script to submit false information and inflate the numbers. Earlier in the thread, someone posted the over-night numbers where the new downloads jumped to 500ish per hour which seems more like an automated attack rather than people manually creating new accounts.

That's just a guess of course and either way it doesn't matter because Bioware doesn't want people cheating and complaining about them not tollerating cheating is both rediculous and a waste of time.

Here are the numbers in 10 minute intervals from midnight to 8 am (GMT -5). If you look, thereis a huge spike. At the beginning of each hour I have the per hour and per minute downloads for the previous hour.

Anyway, been doing math again:
As I am figuring, we have been downloading for 54 houers and reached 540000. That give us 9940/houer dl or 166/min dl. Note: no holyday here, but then we had the START spike.
We got 94 houer left and 460000 witch give us 4800/h dl or 82/min dl. Current we are doing 30-50, fluctuating a bit, but then we have the holydays to help us... so nothing is settled yet.
Dont mind my writing errors, this is written as I hear the sound of the words in my language :-))

Edit: PS. In my opinion, it is in the evening the most playing take place, and the "evening" is passing the Atlantic Ocean at the moment. As this part of the 24 houer day, the evening, is eating its way inland on the American continent, the counter (dl) will speed up again.
So hold on to your hats folks, it is windy, but we will make it

basically you're totally right but as I see it there sadly aren't any more spikes to be expected. we are talking of double the amount of downloads we can observe now. sure, some people will wait till the weekend and i really hope they will be many. at best it will be really tight in the end.

That minus 300000 really knocked me down like the Ogre did with my Rouge in the demo... but like the Rouge I stood up again, and take the positive view like I mostly do.
So I have hope in spite of the psycological knock down this matter have given "Call to Arms"

AND, there will be a spike at the holyday, many peoples have to work long houer, so they have only the holyday to make some fun. like play the demo.

That is what I think. :-)

Well this totally through off my graphing. But it makes sense that it was BS, There was a spike sometime between 21:58 last night and 7:48 this morning that averaged out to 4,250 per ten minute time period. Then there was another spike between 8:38 and 10:38 that averaged out to 6,500 per ten minute period.

Studing the numbers given by GuldiienDAO above, it looks like 30000 has been added extra each houer for 7 houers... that makes 210000 false downloads... perhaps 210000 is also a number to think about to substract... instead of 300000... having good numbers, it should be possible to narrow down the error and getting the false number of downloads more correct.

The full game is not out yet King, all we can play is the demo for now.  The full game comes out March 8 in the US, and I believe March 11 everywhere else (please someone correct me if I am wrong, to lazy to go look it up again)

I was simply disappointed in the numbers. I keep the count on the download for my friend on XBL who doesn't have a computer and it was annoying to have to tell him we were close only to tell him again that we lost 300,000.

Anyone can tell that yesterday something strange was going on... huge leap in downloads over a short amount of time. I'm not exactly sure if we will make it however... we shall see. Hopefully Bioware will give us something anyways...

this may have been asked but i dont want to go throu all the pages but how do they know if someone is not downloading the demo multiple time on differnet systems, like on the ps3 360 and pc to get the count up. not really sure that it would matter but i was just wondering.

Folks, there are ways to manipulate counters without a real event
(aka demo d/l here) behind it - think of it as some phreakers
who manually moved the clock hands by sending fake events.

I'm pretty sure that's what CP meant.

When I woke up this morning and saw the 800K I went "Hell yea!!" Then I came back after class and saw that it went down. It was very sad but understandable. I am however royally ticked at whoever was stupid enough to increase it by 300K. If your gonna cheat be smart and USE SMALLER NUMBERS!!!
