They are at it again, counter moves 400 per tick. This whole thing is fast becoming a circus.

For what its worth though, while the counter is updating frequently it is still only meant as a loose indicator - its a fun thing to have on the site primarily for you, the community, to see how we're trending towards the goal.

But if those trigger happy folks are reading this - please note that the unlocks are not triggered by that counter itself, we will still be manually unlocking the items.  And to keep it fair and as accurate as we can, daily we are manually revising the counter numbers to include updates from other download reports we get, such as console numbers and external partner PC sites.  :police:

So we will likely see more flux in the counter - we apologize, as the spamming of it somewhat diminishes the value of the counter - but still believe it meets the original intent to have something simple to help give you all some feedback.

Having said all that - I think we're trending very well towards the goal when looking at 'real' numbers, and keep in mind we still have a full weekend ahead.  I sense more goodies for folks in the near future.  :o

F.

Thank you for the update there. I was beginning to wonder what had happened to that counter

GUYS!!!

I can now reveal that a 3rd book (Yes,THIRD) will now be available if the 1000000 mark is reached!!!

The Gamer's Lament - Written by a Bioware refugee as he fled the Promotion, this book of nutty ideas describes his dreams of a new start in Unscrewed, the mythical city across the sea where gamers are not treated like cattle. Readers will surely be made poorer by his insights.

(Takes money when read. XP counts for nothing.)

Enjoy!

I'm glad that you guys are counting the downloads independently. I was worried that if these guys kept spamming the counter you would get rid of the free DLC.

For all you DLC haters on this board, DLC is optional. Yes sometimes companies will just lock content, Bioware I love ya but we all know what you did with Bioshock 2, but I still support the concept because they can make a game and then if they didn't get enough of the story in for what ever reason instead of releasing a half finished portion of the game they just release it later as DLC. They make money and we get a game that keeps on giving.  Just don't take it too far some gamers have no paticence for people trying to make a profit.

looks like those ibsoab did it again - ~ 175k in less than 2 hours looks suspicious enough.

Ye.. its clearly some one tinkering.. it jumps with around the 320-350 mark every update.. I doubt real downloads would be spread out like that.

Just followed it for some time
Example 1                                                                  Example 2
5138 ==> 5459 ==> 5808 ==> 6152 ==> 6500   2887 ==> 3229 ==> 3574 ==> 3920 ==> 4267
       Diff 321    Diff 349    Diff 344    Diff 348            Diff 345      Diff 345     Diff 346    Diff 347

As you can see....

But I dont really think they should punish us true fans for this.. I mean.. they thought out a way to use viral marketing that were seriously flawed, or at least very open to manipulation..

We all know human beings.. when you are able to reach a goal you want, and the path can be helped along with shady methods.. then some people will do that..

Just sucks for us that actually cared for doing this the proper way.. I think I have pestered pretty much all the geeks I know that like these sort of games to download it ><

Ahh well.. the demo were good, so no hurt come from it I guess...

No worries :)

And phreakers usually end up in hot water with boatloads of troubles
- as opposed to hackers (edit: some of them are quite good at tracking down
phreakers).

Yesterday it was ~820K on counter
Today at early morning it back to ~550K
Now it about 720K

I think there are not many people left who still believing in number we can check on Demo download page.
It easier to simply gief that items and end this show

If ppl cheat or hack it - ehh it not cool to waste such cool idea - but RL is RLPosted Image

Edit:: so whatever the intentions of those phreakers regarding their
counter spamming may be - they will not spoil all the fun for me.

Looking forward to reading  the real numbers after the weekend

The counter is going faster this morning than in the last three days...more than 300k in just a few hours..

Seems that "BW punishment" hasn't done any good...

I'm sure once office hours start at Bioware's office it will be back down to between 500,000 and 750,000.  I personally don't think we'll genuinely hit the 1,000,000 mark, but I hope we do.

Hmm, this is all starting to remind me of government statistics - first you get the 'OMG it's huge' figure, then the seasonally adjusted 'meh, not so much' figure and you only get the real figures about 6 months down the line.

But enough carping - it's a fun idea and it got me rushing to download the demo even faster than I would have normally. Let the numbers roll(ercoaster) on.

Sorry I can't be bothered reading through all the new pages and stuff, but ehm how come all of a sudden there is over 900k and nearing 1million downloads? *confused*

Edit: Oh dear more people have probably spammed eh? total bummer, why are people ruining it for everyone else? *sigh*
