tbh, I'm not terribly fussed about getting an XP and money book, since XP and money are not unique like the belt of hindsight etc.

@ Raistlin: If it doesn't show up in "your registered game promotions" you probably have to log in anew and play the demo again. Happened to me too (somehow lost server connection during my 1st playthrough)

btw, I've got enough books so I don't care about two more :)

Oh boy, I'm going to laugh when BioWare turns around and say

"You know this content we removed from the game that we were offering you? Well you're not allowed to have it!"

If we manage to reach 1 million anyway, and BW decides to remove some points for 'spamming' costing us the books, i am gonna be *pissed*.

I'd like to know how it was removed from the game? These are two items that are being offered as an incentive for us to try the demo. They aren't essential to the game, they are simply books that will give a leg up at the beginning of play, making it slightly easier to advance for the first level or three.

I'm also starting to fear that if BioWare holds to the challenge that they set forth, and DON'T gift the books anyway if we don't make it, that a group is going to think that they're being cheated out of something they earned because we were 'close enough'. It'd be fantastic if they do, and I'd be thrilled, but I'm not taking that as some sort of unspoken promise that it'll happen, and while I'll be disappointed if we don't get the books, I won't hold it against BioWare for following their own rules.

I'm honestly saddened to see the sense of entitlement that shows itself in situations like this. BioWare does a lot for their community already that many game companies don't. The devs get on the boards themselves to talk to us, we get SO much information and teasers that you wouldn't get elsewhere. And for those of us who play the PC... well, we're not stuck on the back burner for 2-12 months waiting for their games because they want to push the console sales first.

Enjoy what we have, be happy with whatever little extras we get, and PLEASE don't feel betrayed if you don't get something you want if we don't meet the goal.

I agree somewhat, but I have to ask you: Will you be upset if we don't reach 1 million downloads and they don't give it to us, only to put it up as buyable day 1 DLC?

Hmmmm, could Xbox Live silver members just download the demo on our PCs to just get us counted?

It depends.  The playthroughs are tracked by accounts for purposes of counting how many people have completed it.  Your X-Box Live account and your EA/Bioware account are both identified by their e-mail addresses.  If both accounts use the same e-mail address, then only one playthrough will count.

However, that doesn't guarantee that Bioware doesn't have other methods in place to police the system.  After all, they have apparently been able to pick out a number of spammers and it's possible that they have some other mechanism in place to help keep the numbers legit.

I'm not going to lie I'm going to be a little upset if they don't give us the 2 items. Is it because of a sense of entitlement? No

Before doing such an ambbitious promotional campaign I think they should have at least put in safeguards to prevent people from spamming the counter. Pay attention to the fact that I'm referencing the counter. I'm aware that BW is tracking the real number and the counter is there for show until it is actually updated with the real standings daily. This promotion did generate a lot of hype and i know that it captured their internet fan folowing judging by the numbers. I was really excited when I heard about this promotion and I dled as we all did and I love the demo and have had the SE pre ordered for months. Then the first roll back happened and I was disappointed and confused as to how BW apparently did anticipate spammers but didn't put much efort in preventing the counter from climbing and getting most of our hopes up. Then I saw the numbers quickly climb again and I was optimistic and told myself BW must have fixed the problem and they couldn't seriously have done nothing to prevent the spamming this time.

Then the second rollback happened.and most of my enthusiasm faded and is all but gone as i have watched the counter crawl since then. BW didn't even do anything to prevent it because I think it's just a case of the spammer's getting bored. If we had spammers that had absolutely no life then we would have had to put up with dozens of rollbacks. Now it seems we won't reach the 1 million in time(barring divine Seth McFarlan intervention) and this rollercoaster was for naught and it wasn't even a fun ride tbh.

I would prefer they extend the promotion like I said before and give us an honest chance to reach the 1 million and truly earn the 2 items. Personally I don't understand the placement of the deadline since it alienates the xbox live silver members. I wouldn't mind getting the items for "free" as I and many others have been campaigning for the DA 2 demo by telling family and friends. So worst case is they say we don't get the 2 items and they turn what could have been a great promotion to something that benefitted them by creating buzz but also will leave them open to lots of bad publicity if they even care. Now that i think about it I'll be honest and say that I will rage on this forum and others and not even cookies will sate my lust for vengeance.

Not really.  I don't see that happening, but that would give the people who feel they can't live without it the option of obtaining it (and I honestly don't see it costing more than a dollar or two if that were to happen.) and the folks who don't want to pay for it can do without.

Would I buy it?  Probably not, because I don't HAVE to have it, just like I'm not buying a letter opener from the elite items store to get the ring dlc for that.  Would other people?  Probably.  Not having them won't take anything away from my gaming experience.

As I said, it'd be nice if they said 'good try' and gave it anyway, but I'm just voicing my disaggreement with the notion that we are OWED something.  We got to play the demo, which a good portion of us would have done anyway without the incentive being offered in the first place, and I think that a lot of people are losing sight of that part of the experience.

I'm also not a fan of 'trophies/ribbons for everyone who participates' and holding the quicker learners in school back so that the slower learners don't get 'left behind'.

Please also keep in mind that this is the weekend, and most likely the numbers from xbox and PS3 aren't being added to the total on the site atm.  There's a good chance we'll see a big jump sometime Monday just from that being updated.

Exactly I feel that if it would be cool to get all the freebies I can get my hands on but I'm not going to go out of my way or be bothered if I don't actually get em.

They probably did anticipate that people would try to cheat and took steps to prevent that.  Can you honestly say that you've never overlooked a loophole?  Hundreds of thousands of people wanted to play the demo and at least 50% of them probably want those incentive items as well.  If one out of 100 of them decided to try to be dishonest, do you really think that at least one wouldn't figure out how to get by any safeguards that BioWare put up?

Whatever the outcome, we'll still get the game next week.  Most of us will play it and enjoy it, or not. However, if missing a little gold and experience is going to spoil your enjoyment in playing the game, then I feel very sorry that such a small thing matters so much.

One more thought.  At this point, if they roll over and give the items anyway, that'll set the trend and any time they do a promotion in the future, people will say "don't worry about it, they'll give it to us anyway."

Which kind of defeats the purpose of having the promotion in the first place.  Maybe next time they won't offer us anything extra because when people try to cheat the system and they stop it, they're seen as the bad guy if they don't roll over.

I never said it would affect my enjoyment of the game and it won't for the record. Really i don't understand where you are coming from tbh.

You don't care whether or not we get the items then fine but don't tell me how to handle my reaction to this poorly handled promotion. I explained my feelings through this entire process and I don't think I'm being unreasonable.
Now about the items I don't care that much for their effects but I'm looking forward to the codex entries. I'm a DA player who would just sit and read all the codex for hours. I love the DA world and learning about it. Now my prefereed solution is to extend the promotion and I actually prefer if we legitimately reach the goal as I said. Well if they don't give us the items I can guarantee you this will reflect badly on future promotions for for future games. "Why bother participating when BW can't even get a counter that actually counts the real number", "The spammers will just ruin it for everyone again"

Btw excuse me but THEY stopped it? If the spammers were inclined to continue then they would still be manipulating the counter. Their biggest folly was their handling of the counter and the deadline placement. I would prefer they be honorable and admit they didn't handle this promotion well and EITHER extend the promotion or just give us it. Also let's not lose sight of the fact that we will probably be less than 100 k off the mark and that deserves appreciation imo. If it doesn't bother you then please just have fun with your game when it arrives like I will but don't fool yourself into thinking you work for BW and it's your duty to do damage control.

Edit: Btw I'm not buying the elite knife to get some ring. That seems silly to me.

One of the books is a collection of poems written by a Lothering refugee about what they lost in the raid.

The other is a person's first impressions about Kirkwall as they enter and explore the city.

I look forward to both.:wizard:

Edit: At least that is what I remember them as, I might be off tbh.

First: I never said word one about you in particular. The times that I used the word 'YOU' I was using it in the general sense, not pointed to any one person.

Second: BioWare took measures to correct the incorrect data, and posted very quickly after the first rollback with an explanation as to why it was done. The spammers most likely got the hint that they were only wasting their time in their attempt to cheat. The spammers haven't ruined anything about the promotion, except that people saw the numbers get inflated and thought took that to mean that it didn't matter if someone was trying to cheat.

Third. I never claimed to work for BioWare, nor do I have any misguided notion that I do, or ever will. HOWEVER, I am entitled to my opinion as much as you are to yours, and if you feel that you have the right to voice yours, you have no cause to take offense if I give voice to my own.  Damage control isn't my aim in posting, I am stating my opinion.  Feel free to disagree with me, but don't stoop to making personal attacks to belittle me.

Finally, as I have said before, I would LOVE it if they decide to be generous and give them out anyway, even if it's just to the accounts that logged in for the promotion, but I won't hold it against them if they decide not.  If it wasn't a virtual item, people wouldn't be saying "give it to us anyway, it's already manufactured!'"

It is the same Isabela, and I believe they said somewhere that she even remembers the encounter with the Warden.

Honestly It doesn't really matter to me whether we get it or not. I preordered the game before they even announced this demo DLC, so I see little point in getting upset about something that I didn't know about getting in the first place.
Also if anyone gets angry and doesn't buy the game over something so trivial, that is a bit sad and also silly. I just think the DLC is merely some small fun to have, but not game changingly awesome that you must have or the game won't be as fun. It will be a good game either way.

It'd really only be an extra. And of the two, I wouldn't have used the XP book anyway. So no, I won't miss it, but I won't miss the gold one either. It's pretty obvious that the game is designed around NOT having them anyway.

The cut-content argument is really nonsense either way. Most people making such claims (also regarding DLC) have never played a game that did have obviously cut content that was moved into some DLC. Trust me, when you get only half or two thirds of a game, you'll notice. The game will be nearly unplayable without it.
