I have tried 4 different PC builds trying to get Dragon Age to work properly. The problem I am having is in game stuttering that I could set a clock to. It stutters for 10 seconds, every 10 seconds. Unless im in combat then the whole thing is a slide show. Now also experiencing the huge loading times. Game has become unplayable and I have only made it to Lothering.

System changes are Bolded.

System Specs Build 1:
[*]OS: Windows XP with SP3
[*]CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66Ghz
[*]RAM: 4GB Installed
[*]NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB
[*]MSI P6N FI Core 2 Duo nVidia 650i  1333MHz FSB Dual Channel DDR
System Specs Build 2:
[*]OS: Windows XP with SP3
[*]CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66Ghz

[*]RAM: 4GB Installed

[*]ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB

[*]MSI P6N FI Core 2 Duo nVidia 650i  1333MHz FSB Dual Channel DDR
System Specs Build 3:

[*]OS: Windows Vista (Fresh Install)
[*]CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66Ghz

[*]RAM: 4GB Installed

[*]NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB

[*]MSI P6N FI Core 2 Duo nVidia 650i  1333MHz FSB Dual Channel DDR
System Specs Build 4:

[*]OS: Windows Vista (Fresh Install)

[*]CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66Ghz

[*]RAM: 4GB Installed

[*]ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB
[*]MSI P6N FI Core 2 Duo nVidia 650i  1333MHz FSB Dual Channel DDR
I swapped my Geforce 8800 GTS 512 for a Radeon HD 5770 Seen no change in performance. Fresh installed Vista on a new HD and still exact same performance.  Im not willing to upgrade my mother board and processor for further testing . Bottom line is I have gone way beyond what an average consumer should have to do to get this product to perfrom as advertised.

what drivers are you using and how do you have the graphics set?

Used the latest versions plus the Geforce Beta driver. Used driver sweeper when swapping Cards. Graphis set to low or hgh dpes not matter. Have tried CPU affinity before trying any of this. Game runs perfect between stutters. Then it chugs along.

You make it sound like it's bioware's fault you're having hardware problems. It couldn't possibly be that one of your other components isn't working? I know you thought it was your GPU and proceeded to replace it (as well as your operating system).

I'm sorry if you spent money on these upgrades hoping it would solve your problem. The fact that it didn't solve your problems doesn't necessarily mean it's the game's fault. Before you go blaming DAO for not performing as advertised, you should look into many other possibilities of why this is happening. Your "four" builds are only minor modifications and just narrow down the possibilities; they do not point out DAO as the problem. I know it seems like you've done a lot, but in the world of PC's and upgrades replacing an OS and a GPU isn't really much of anything. You have many other things to test, like RAM CPU HDD PSU or even a dirty/old cable.

Good luck in finding out what's causing this, just be a little more thorough in your investigation before getting frustrated that you upgraded and claiming it's the game's fault.

I have the same problem as "Grave77digger".

When i start the game everything looks fine, FPS around 30.

Then after changing locations, having 1-2 fights FPS drops to 10-12 or even worse.

Then i exit the game and run it again, everything is back to normal (30 FPS), but not for long.

Also i have long loading time after few quick loads or area loads in the game.

I've tryied like Grave77digger, run the game with only 1 core active - no change, run the game as administrator in Windows XP (SP3) compatibility mode - no changes, also running game in lower resolutions and on low details - no change!

My specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (fresh install, all updates, newest DirectX)

AMD Athlon 64bit x2 4000+ (2.11 MHz x 2) - 100% working fine (checked in other games)

2 GB Hyper-X Kingston DDR2 (800Mhz), Dual - fresh new!

Asus Ati Radeon 4850 1GB DDR3 - fresh new! (newest driver for Win7 from Asus support website

37 inch LG LCD Full HD (1920x1080 ress)

Game should run on full details without no problems.

It does for first 10 minutes.

To Ankitol:

I understan your point of view, but you must addmit that it is very strange and suspicious that all other games on my computer works fine, but only Dragon Age have that strange problem.

Before DAO i've played Risen, Oblivion, Call Of Juarez II and even Knight Of The Old Republic (other Bioware product)

Looks like memory leak or some issue with game's engine.

When i minimaize the game to Windows 7, still my both proccesor runs 100% and DDR2 memory is 100% occupated. Windows works like crap while the game is on.

Hope Bioware will be able to solve the problem.

Grave77digger + thanks to your info, now i know that it is not a Windows 7 Ultimate problem.

I returned the 5770 to BestBuy and I have done mcuh MUCH more than I wanted to type to try and resolves my issues. I know my PC inside and out and what it can and cant handle. This is an issue that is out of my hands, I have even tried adjusting RAM Cas latency and under clocking CPU and GPU.

Ankitol your 2 cents has been noted and thoughtfully disregarded.

I don't belive it is overheating problem.
In the game i can run in one room or location for hours and the game will run great, the problem appears when i move on. Game's FPS begins to slow down and loading times increases.
On another forum Bioware crew already typed post that they are aware of the problem and working to fix it. They asked for patient. They need to run a lot of tests to discover what is the reason for memory leak issues.
It can be anything - one of the spells, skills, everything you do can trigger it.
Also it looks like problem depends somehow on hardware, two of my friends with GTS 280GTX cards and Intel Quad Procs told me that game runs perfect for them.
You are lucky or not. :)
Overall, that sucks.

I vote for demo versions of all games!

Seems likely. I see that I am but one of MANY who are experiencing fps issues despite exceeding the recommended requirements. I myself have tried everything possible. Still nothing. I have to run it on low settings, and even so the fps is only tolerable. Still, it's the best I can do. I've given up on trying to improve it.

Mee too, done exactly the same, this weekend has cost a small fortune in replacing hardware and software in order to make things better for this product (risks taken in overclocking and underclocking processors gpu or otherwise), unfortunately something in the game, is causing the issue! I'm not going to play anymore until i have a working solution, hope they find one soon :(

have you tried the CPU affinity fix here? Part of the reason several of us are convinced it's not a memory leak is that it doesn't seem to affect all users. I can play for 15 hours without ever seeing a load time over 45 seconds and my processor isn't technically even supported.

Your processor may be one of the ones having trouble with thread switching... if you try it and it doesn't work, simply restart the game and it will reset to the default

Ok i will try it to see if it will help my loading times, but it doesn't help my sudden drops of FPS in the game. 1 min ago, i've killed few angry mabari and my FPS droped from 20 to 10 with 1 core active.

Regards,

I did as you said, and set the afinity one for the game, and the other for the services, and I dont believe it, but this cured my lag issue thus far (Ostagar)... Many thanks, and I appologies for gettign my wires crossed :)
