Yes, make the cover neutral like this, and put male & female Shepard on the back somewhere. At the very least, put an indication that you can play as female on the back of the case.Akari Tenshi wrote...

Pretty sure there is no canon Shepard.
It's like in Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter- Tolkien and Rowling created the canon material. What fans do with the material, or change, isn't canon.
The people at BioWare created Sheploo and femShep. They created multiple backgrounds and choices. There is no right choice. There, essentially, is no canon (either that or it's all canon) material.
There are default settings but that is something else entirely.
As far as the cover goes...incorporating both would be neat. Promoting femShep even a little bit would be wonderful. I just don't see it happening.

no. the reason for the male shepard on the front covers of the ME games is because he's representing the CANON shepard (which is what my engineer shepard looks l ike). people need to understand that Bioware has a canon for the ME-Shepard story arc and get over the "but its an rpg and I can customize my char so they should totally fake out everyone and do a female shepard on the front".
and btw I do have a female shepard infiltrator too but I still think the male canon shepard is what should be on the front cover.

Bioware has said before that there is no canon Shepard.

I have a few questions.
1) What is the origin of the "canon" Shepard?
2) What is the military background of "canon" Shepard?
3) What is the class of "canon" Shepard? And, if so, why have I seen BioWare demonstrate each different class with "canon" Shepard?
Please answer these questions. In the works I've encountered with a "canon" to them, these things are consistent. I would like your help in clearing out those areas of confusion.

I meant it more as the Shepard which is used in every advertisement or promotion bioware has ever made for mass effect.
So perhaps I should've used the term Poster Boy.
Ive been around the forums in one form or another since me1 So I have seen the hundreds of female shep requests so forgive me if I see the truth that this thread is more a waste of pixels then anything.

I hate the default FemShep face as much as I do the default MaleShep. I think they should use neutral and understated covers like that of ME2 Collector's Edition or cinematic ones like that of ME1.

I think a DudeShep/FemShep reversible ME3 cover would be the most practical solution, to be honest.

dont get me wrong i use default male shep all the time. i like the face. but maybe femshep is only 18% played because the masses are generally unaware and just start the game on default soldier?
showing everyone that there is actually an option might encourage more people to give femshep a shot

lenticular cover - its male shep, then tilt the cover a bit. oh look, its now female shep.
you're welcome bioware
It would be a lot easier and cheaper to just have reversable slip covers.
Loads of other games have had them over the years so we know that publishers aren't against doing them..
-EDIT-
Damn, must remember to finish reading the full thread before posting.

What I'd like to see is a cover that doesn't even have Shepard on it, or at least one that doesn't show his stupid face.
Like the Collector's Edition. That was pretty sexy.

I mean really whats the big deal, Its like in Saints Row (both) the PC never looks like my guy, he looks like a big mad black or mexican guy cover in tats. And no one on that forum ever makes a fuse about it, even if they are playing a Female. I really don't understand it. Its like Mario there have been dozens of variations with him, and yet Nintendo uses which ever is current. No one will see flamepants Mario on a game box due to fan outcry. Yet theere seems to be a sense of entitlement among the bioware forum that wants everything one way or another, and rarely do any agree 100%. At times I dunno why Bio just doesn't releases a developer kit for 100 bucks, then everyone can make the game just how they want it, even print out your own box art.

Agreed. Anything is better then that disaster called Mass Effect 2 regular edition cover art.

However seriously I doubt t hat it will happen after MaleShep been the "face" of ME1 and ME2 they won't change that for ME3. Any none-Sheppard follow-up games that is something else and I would assume that Bioware might change their "marketing" approach for those. Just can't see if happen for ME3.

Or just the flat "Mass Effect 3" logo on that blueish background that they were using as a placeholder cover. They don't even need any face or figure on the front, I'm pretty sure everybody knows Mass Effect and how awesome it is now.
