I'm on another playthrough on ME2 here and doing the suicide mission. First run through I used Kasumi who is a tech expert but when she goes to close the door she says it's jammed then goes to try and help close it physically she gets shot in the head and killed. Second time through I use Tali, same problem. This should not be happening since I have a tech expert closing the door. I'm about to try it again using Legion and if it happens a third time I know it's not me. So I'm getting angry that this game is killing my tech experts. This didn't happen in any of my other playthroughs so it has to be a glitch of some kind.

I know you might already know this but just to recap. Yes Tali, Legion, and Kasumi will all work as tech experts. Garrus, Jacob, and Mir are all squad leaders. The squad leader and tech expert must be loyal or your tech expert will always die. If you have done all the things then sorry it is a glitch.

I did all the things and the tech expert still died. I went through on my third run and it seems Legion is the only one capable of doing the door hack properly. Oh well.

tali's always the tech expert.

she knows what she's doing, she's smarter than everyone of the crew and squad combined. hell she's even better than the captain.

The first fire team leader will always survive, loyal or not. The chosen tech expert can die if they are unloyal. Only loyal tech experts won't die.

certain loyalty missions don't make any sense. in fact it's like a waste of time, and confusion if you're really into solid story telling/game play. "hey this story makes so sense what so ever. let's be realistic with options here.  unexiled", gamer

Who was the fire team leader? As stated, Miranda, Garrus or Jacob are the only ones that don't get your tech expert killed, as long as they (and the tech expert) are loyal.

miranda or garrus (fire team)
garrus or miranda (2nd team)
jacob is always the escort (recovering entire crew)
samara or jack as biotic specialist
tali always get the vents since she's so technologically inclined and all (always poking around in the engine room of the ships, or being in engineering/core room).

Hm...memory seems to be getting hazy. I was sure I had an unloyal Miranda and a loyal Tech survive.

I had everyone loyal. I was using Zaeed as my fire team leader. He has experience leading people as did Garrus and Miranda and Jacob. Probably why my tech expert died every time. Anyhow thanks for the help people.
