Not sure why everyone seems to get such experiences with Gamestop. I've been going to the same store for the past three or four years and haven't once had any negative experience with them. Granted they seem to get games from the UPS people a bit later than they expect, but I can't fault them for that.

Because getting hired to do a job shouldn't require even the slightest amount of knowledge about the job and its surrounding influences. Right. Got it.

Gamestop actually has a policy against hiring "gamers"  now. They presume that anyone who knows their games means they are "Hardcore" and will skip work to play a big game the day it releases.

True story, its just shoddy retail now. EB is trending the same way.

I tend to find the guys at the local rental shop way more knowledgeable on games and films then anyone at any game store, they even make good recommendations!

Being an avid gamer, I cannot recall how many times I applied to a "Game" store in hopes to get a part-time job that I liked. Funny thing is that I went into the store about a year ago and answered some questions to a customer, because the clerk was busy. Apparently, he overheard me and was the GM, offered me a job right there on the spot... I told him thanks but no thanks!

I don't see why people expect so much from bottom of the barrel employees. If they were competent and knowledgeable they wouldn't be working that job.

They sold out months ago. You'd know this if you weren't such a... ?

Hmm, I have always wondered how you can sell out of a game that has yet to go Gold or be pressed.... do they have a limit and some database that keeps track of them?

The CE has a steel case and cloth map, which would have had to be ordered a while ago.

It's true, the quality of your local gamestop largely depends on the store manager. They are encouraged to hire employees who love games, but it is not required.

I work in a gamestop where we all know what we are talking about, because my manager is a big gamer. That's why we always get a lot of business. People come from other areas for our GS.

@ Davidolowich As far as the asking for ID thing goes, I understand why he did that. Dunno how it works where you are, but in my state in the US you cannot sell a M game to anyone under 17. It's just like alcohol and cigarettes. They send in spied to test you. If you don't card them you get written up on the spot, your store manager is fined, and the district manager is fined. Yeah, it's a big deal. I card everyone who buys an M game, without exception. Always. Doesn't mean I don't like you, it means I want to keep my job lol.

Most GS's don't carry PC games in-store anymore, but you can order them. I ordered a DAO PC CE for myself. They won't be in stock normally though.

As far as how you can sel out of something that you don't have yet, it works one of two ways: in the smaller stores they get a certain amount of CEs of any given game. So let's say they always get 10. They'll have a sign up. When you get to 10, you're sold out aren't you?

At my GS, the CE was in the system for a certain amount of time, after which it was removed and you could no longer sell pre-orders for it. This is to ensure they don't oversell it (it sometimes happens anyway) so it's a safety measure.

That answer everyone's questions?

Because having knowlege of the game world makes you qualified for some greater position in the world? Name a single job, outside of working at game developer company, where what you just said makes any sense. If we could, i'm sure most of us would work at a developer (like bioware) but it takes a bit more than knowing how to one-shot Emerald Weapon or unlock the Deity mask to work somewhere like that.

aparantly my gamestop is selling out like crazy. I when I was chatting with the casher as he was pulling out my copy of Uncharted 2, he asked if I wanted to preorder a copy of Modern warfair, and I said I'd pick it up later because Dragon age was going to dominate my November. and a girl across the store who also worked there very conserned made sure I had preordered it becuase, they had a lot of orders.

Well call me an elitest, you can get huffy about it if you want, but thats how the world works.  I don't expect someone ringing up a cashregister to have a degree in a gaming or business related field, or to even know the first thing about what they are selling.  I'm satisfied if they can manage to charge me the right price.  Would if be happier if they did?  Of course, but if they are making minimimum wage working in a gaming store, I can accept the probobility they have more important things in their life to be focusing their attention on.

Uhm, it was a 12+ game, those are not rated M, last time I checked.

Read what I wrote in the end of page one of this thread? I wrote that my local gamestop no longer allows Pre-orders of Ce's, because they do not know how many copies they get until they get them. They just settle it the old school "first come-first serve"  style.
You're just ignorant.

While the vast majority of them are borderline dunces, some of us did it out of desperation. I served lattes for a year so I could snag the position I now have, which nets me well over 300k a year. Did people look down on me while I slaved away? Probobly, but I got back at them in my own fashion. Don't be so quick to judge, lest the people you are judging one day have a pedestal that overshadows your own. ;)

Yep, kids lol. I remember walking into a Gamestop (it was Babbage's back then) and ALL they had were PC games with a small section of N64 and PS1.

I wasn't trying to, I can understand how it could taken that way though.  I wasn't implying they are all drooling subhumans, I was just saying I don't get pissy if they mess something up.

Yeah, kinda reminds me when I was with a friend at the local Best Buy where he asked the guy a question about an item (I never would of done that heheh)  and the Best Buy salesman picked up the box and started reading it to him.

So, you knew that there was no way the guy could tell you, but you asked him anyway? I assume just so you could have another 'lol gamespot employee sucks' comment to add.

And despite the fact that other Gamestops who do pre-order can’t get the CE anymore, your GS will just have a bunch of them delivered?

Hell, I can remember walking into an EB less than 4 years ago and this being the case. Anyone who says PC gaming isn't dying obviously hasn't bought their games in hardcopy for a good half decade.

Piddly little 2-sided rack, Pff.

My gamestop does no longer allow pre-ordering CE's because they have no idea how many they are getting until they get them, so they can not have sold them out.  This other time, my friends and I went into the store, one of my friends (who is short, like very) asks for a Pegi 12+ game, and this same dude as earlier today says he can't buy it because you have to be 12+, the only thing is all of us were 15+, but he still demanded an ID from my friend-.- 2 of the 3 guys ( And 1 of those 2 let us buy 16+ games.) who work there are atleast nice who you can actually have sane conversations with.

So did you sneak under the DA age barrier as well?

I though the ESRB went form E for everyone to E 10+ to Teen 13+ and MA 17+... when was there any games released with 12 and 16 age limits?

Sadly the people who get highered to work at gamestop are not very good for a majority. I have been lucky that the store I have shopped at is staffed by 3 Legit gamers who more or less own 2-3 current gen systems and a good PC. They know what they are talking about... Sadly the just got a new guy who really only knows Nintendo stuff.... and even then usually misinformed. But I feel sorry that most people get the bum end.
