Sadly the people who get highered to work at gamestop are not very good for a majority. I have been lucky that the store I have shopped at is staffed by 3 Legit gamers who more or less own 2-3 current gen systems and a good PC. They know what they are talking about... Sadly the just got a new guy who really only knows Nintendo stuff.... and even then usually misinformed. But I feel sorry that most people get the bum end.

That's what game magazines and review sites are for. You can't expect an employee at Gamestop or Best Buy to give you a reliable review on the game your buying, it's not their job. Can they reccomend a game you might like based on your taste and their inventory? Sure.

Mine tried to convince me to get the xbox version, claiming it was just going to be soooo much better. Maybe they get told to try to sell those versions or something.. I mean it is 10 dollars more for the console versions which must mean more money for the store... I wonder how much profit they get on games?.. what's the actual price they end up paying for games? Maybe I should try to order games in bulk and then sell the extras on the street corner for my own profit.

I think they make most of their profit off of used games and the like...

That's definitely true.. look at the difference between what they buy and sell used products at..

Exactly...its pretty much a game-centered pawn shop. It serves a niche, and thats why the second-hand industry is so worried about the Digital Distribution movement and trying to get in front of it.

Hell, I can remember walking into an EB less than 4 years ago and this
being the case. Anyone who says PC gaming isn't dying obviously hasn't
bought their games in hardcopy for a good half decade.

Piddly little 2-sided rack, Pff.

Im a bit apprehensive to use the word dying. In my own personal opinion, pc gaming is still strong, yet it's simply a spit in the ocean to the exponential growth of console gaming.

It makes perfect sense really, PCs have alyways been somewhat reserved for the tech savvy, while consoles are pick up and go; no hassle, small learning curve. In the age of accessability with true global modernization, it would be backwards if PC gaming were still the supreme medium. Kind of a darwininsm for nerds, if you will.

Us old farts will have a tear in our eye.

So, you knew that there was no way the guy could tell you, but you asked him anyway? I assume just so you could have another 'lol gamespot employee sucks' comment to add.

When I tried to order the 360 Dragon Age CE from Gamestop and the employee informed me that they were no longer offering them, he told me that the only difference between the CE and the standard edition was the case; probably in an attempt to get me to trade in my games for store credit and pre-order the standard edition, rather than taking my money elsewhere for the CE. Or, he could have been just another uninformed Gamestop employee.

Honestly, and I'm sorry if this sounds harsh... But who gives a flying rats ass? Stop being so elitist and overbearing, and PLEASE stop using words like "newb" - especially when being condescending or patronizing to, or about, others.

Shot in the dark here, but probably the people who are getting direct misinformation about a purchase they intend to make from a retailer. Shame for the ones who don't know any better and take their word for it.

Whaa? I acutally said My Gamestop was great except for the new guy. The manager and the older employs are amazing.... And they can give great reviews and also recomendations. They have yet to set me wrong. I just findmyself correcting the new guy a lot when he tells young kids and moms about Wii games XD

I actually have two local Gamestops, almost right next to each other. Kind've like what Starbucks has been doing. The difference between them is night and day. Gamestop #1: An employee repeatedly lies to customers about release dates, telling them to hurry and preorder because (insertgame) is coming out next week/month! When in fact said game either has no release date or is set for late next year. :/

Gamestop #2: The employees are friendly and knowledgeable, even the manager's a big gamer, and they recently increased the size of their PC section.

I have that too.. they are 2 strip malls away from each other about 3 city blocks.. I call them the clean gamestop and the dirty gamestop.. One is all organized, brightly lit and nice and the other always looks downright shabby.. even the employees look shabier.  Funny thing is they are owned by the same person.

my store only got their pre-order information confirmed last week for DAO, and we're one of the major competitors in Australia. Sometimes you miss the memos, sometimes you just aren't informed (especially if you don't work full time.)

We can't order stock from suppliers, we only get sent stock/have to share with every other store in Australia. so don't come in expecting any good PC games - we mostly now stock Blizzard and Sims titles because they sell, and drastically removing every other PC title.

Our website had Forza promo'd as available on both the X360 and PS3 (which it isn't), my friend asked to pre-order Forza at Game and the dude asked for PS3 or X360.

@ Davidolowich As far as the asking for ID thing goes, I understand why he did that. Dunno how it works where you are, but in my state in the US you cannot sell a M game to anyone under 17. It's just like alcohol and cigarettes. They send in spied to test you. If you don't card them you get written up on the spot, your store manager is fined, and the district manager is fined. Yeah, it's a big deal. I card everyone who buys an M game, without exception. Always. Doesn't mean I don't like you, it means I want to keep my job lol.

Uhm, it was a 12+ game, those are not rated M, last time I checked.
Don't you get the point? The point is that if you are found selling certain things to minors you can get in big trouble. It might not be the case for all game ratings but who knows? Maybe he was expecting an inspection or something. Is what he did a little silly? Sure, but there might have been a reason behind it you don't know about.
