gamestop employees are clerks, not video game aficionados. they might be video game aficionados some of the time. i'm sure it's hit-or-miss. but all you can expect them to be is clerks.
Usually they're at least into one aspect of the industry, or at least know just enough to drive their numbers.
I worked for EB Games for 2 years (during which time they were bought out by Gamestop) and man, the stories I've got!
Naturally I don't speak for every sales rep but in my experience, I started out a relatively happy/helpful employee and (then post-buyout) I ended up so very embittered and spiteful. Which naturally affected my interactions with the public.
When customers where nice, respectful, or managed to make me laugh I didn't hesitate to give them a little discount or something. *tosses a game on the ground* "Oh look, store damage. Must be like...20% off, eh."
When customers where rude; dispensed attitude 'cause I was behind the counter (my favourite were the sexist ones) I would find I suddenly lacked any knowledge or ability to be helpful in any way. "I don't know of any game called 'Wow'."
