IIRC if you have enough armor/defense you can eat an overwhelm and not die, too, it's just a bit annoying. And get your phys resist up.
Not true - I watched my tank die from werewolf overwhelms in Awakening - over 500 health gone in seconds.

No. He wants a knockdown effect that you can resist. Overwhelm works 100% of the time, even if you have a sword and shield warrior that's immune to knockdowns.TJPags wrote...
So, the OP wants a game where the enemies have no knockdown effects or anything similar?John Crichton wrote...
Dog, wolves, warewolves, children (Awakening), and the Ogre's Grab is similar.TJPags wrote...
Overwhelm?
You mean, the ability Dog had?
Well . . . .ummmm . . . okay.

Or a two handed warrior with Indominatable activated.

Bah. Things like this make the game fun.
Annoying sometimes, but fun.

As soon as you knew CC broke it, it was easy to counter.

More importantly, OP... YOU can get overwhelm too ! I hated it as well when ennemies used it on me but wait until your Dog, Master Shapeshifter forms or Ranger pets get it too ! Then the laughs will be on your enemies. Btw, you can adjust the difficulty at any time through the options menu.
I hated overwhelm.
But I loved turning Morrigan into a giant spider and having her pin enemies down and tear out their organs. Pity shapeshifting sucked.

Shapeshifting is AWESOME if you make your stats right. My shifter in spiderform hits for 120-140 a hit AND with haste it gets all the more OP, swarm is still crappy though.

For anybody who doesn't remember, overwhelm is that cheap move where a creature (most likely a giant spider) knocks you down, crawls over you and starts biting. If I didn't have a mage with powers that could enclose an enemy in cages, I might never have made it through the temple.

I highly advise you to look for a way to negate it, you'll find it if you look for it. Just like in the old games.

Although usually I didn't take much damage from it anyway as I played a Sword and Shield Tank Warrior.

Well, the game can get downright unfair at certain points at higher difficulties. I like challenge in my games, but I cursed the sadist resposible for the final boss fight in Awakening in every single language I know (8 if, anyone's curious).Dubya75 wrote...
Or you need to play at a lower difficulty level.
Getting instantly surrounded by hordes after of hordes of grubs - each one of them ignoring the tank because the mages had the audacity to cast a spell, made me hate the overwhelm move with every fibre of my being. Sure, there's a counter measure agains overwhelm; but you run out of those pretty fast when there are 50+ grubs around you all standing in line to start humping you.

The spiders completely ran past my tank as if they didn't see me and beelined it to my mage and rogue. I guess it makes sense because whenever I encounter a group I immediately go kill the mage first, but really?
Spiders shouldn't be allowed to employ any kind of strategy. They should really just be banned from any video game ever because they are f-ing freaky, but if they have to be in it there shall be NO strategies. They're horrible enough as it is, add overwhelm (already there) and strategic thinking (potentially there) and... gah. My mind just refuses to accept any of this.
