If hearing from your mother one time that she loves you is too much, you're definitely way too sensitive about this.

Indeed...I think you have deep seeded mother issues that need to be resolved...The Couslands were a very normal...very happy family by all acounts. The fact you find a screwed up, bass ackwards and totaly disfunctional family BETTER speaks volumes about you sir.

Can't you just stick her in a home and never visit her, like the rest of us plan to do?

wow now that you mention all those characteristics of mama Cousland ill be honest I didn't notice anything while playing through my human noble. Makes me wonder why your so in depth about this. you weren't adopted where you?

edit: just read the above people asking about your real mothers relationship. Seems it was bad by how defensive you get.

Overly Motherly

And not prefer, simply have the option.

*sigh*

The Couslands were pleasant. Why is that so terrible?

Also, you can speak with Eleanor before you get the dog. So, twice. 50% of conversations, and you even have the option to say "What brought this on?" which implies her sentimentality is rare according to the backstory.

Over and out.

OK, sorry.  Just think you're overreacting a bit that's all.  I mean, I haven't seen anything in this thread worthy of reporting in my opinion.  And I don't see people threaten to report much either.

Still you know better not to have that "loving" thought.

My god dude...if you think THAT is overly motherly I think you should re-evaluate your definition of motherly....thats the normal level of mother by all accounts.

You guys are going to be Stanley Woo'd any minute now. No need, from either side, to be personal. I personally prefer to have who lives or who dies decided by me, instead of the decision to be pre-made by plot issues. Some need to live (or die) for plot reasons, but sometimes I wish I had the "kill'um" option for certain people.

Eh. I don't think this thread is even necessary, but to each their own. It is a story you are playing, and if Momma Hawke is necessary for plot development, than she is necessary.

And considering she's the ones with ties to Kirkwall, momma ain't goin' anywhere.

This is simply a Troll thread thats gonna get Woo'd very soon...argueing with someone who clearly does not know what a happy and normal family is pointless in this type of debate...let him think what he wants...because we all already know killing the mother is immpossible as said by the devs.

K when your mom says nothing else than "I love you darling" iIt can be normal

and If that is normal, i want the option to be weird and kill off hawkes mom early ingame.

I want Hawke's mother to remain in the game for as long as possible. It's a nice change in an RPG to add an emphasis on family, adds more substance to the story. In DA:O Bryce Cousland was one of my favourites.

Ok, from a writer's perspective I will tell you why she tells you she loves you 1/1 times. In the only forced conversation with the character in the beginning of the game, she says that she loves you. This suggests that the Couslands live a very happy life and they enjoy each other's presence. To show that they are a "normal" family so to say. In doing so, the writers hope you the player to realize that your character also loves his/her mother. In her brief time within the game, the writers want you to form a positive relationship with this character whom you're supposed to have known your entire life. How do they do this the best way? By having the character say "I love you."

Additionally, presuming this positive connotation to the character has been formed, her murder is supposed to trigger a stronger emotional response with the player. The writers want you to be upset that Howe killed your mother, as apposed to say a servant. This then results with a greater anger against Howe, and a stronger desire to enact revenge against him. All because of the one simple line that Lady Cousland said, "I love you."
