To be honest, the age thing is just a guideline. Its not about how old you are. Its about your maturity.

So if you find yourself amongst the usual "OMG CAMPER, U NEWB, AK-74 HACK HACK HACK I DID YOUR MOM" guy online who throws insults at everyone including those who give compliments their way, then you might(by might, I mean should definitely) stay away from the forums.

If you have even a simple grasp of maturity and know how to communicate thoughtfully and kindly on a forum, then go ahead.

I am 29 and have a compulsion to tell the truth when entering my date of birth even though it would be easier to lie as I would not have to scroll down so far lol

According to the ESRB:

MATURE
Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.

17 and older in some places, 18 and older in other places.

Thing is they have to set an age. They can't send everyone to a psychologist to get a certificate how mature he is. I am sure there are 15 years olds who act and are more mature than some 25 years olds. So someone decided in the eyes of law it is ok at 18 or sometimes 21. But honestly if you can't deal with the content one month before your 18th birthday, then you probably also can't one month later.

Oi, and if you want to be SURE that its a guideline-

"may be suitable for"

Nothing in there about NOT being able to play it if under that age. These forums were made for fans of these games but is still meant to be a clean place without animosity(as much of it as there is).

Exactly. I know for a fact there are some very mature youngsters that put adults twice my age to shame. Which is downright sad and embarrassing.

Well, I might have been on game forums since I was 13, but I maintain that you should adhere to the age-limit.

If the game is 18+, and you're turning 18 this year... Go for it. You don't magically gain maturity on your birthdays, it comes with time, and for some earlier than other.

Buuuut, I hate the fact that there are kids on here who probably don't even have pubes yet, and they run around calling female NPC's slags and spout homophobic nonsense. Granted we get the same from slightly older members, but I think it might be easier to eliminate immaturity if there's an actual age-restriction that is being enforced.

I concur, Fenris. That's what irks me about playing games like Black Ops. So many little kids with high-pitched voices, immature mindsets, and THE SCREAMING.

Its like playing with a bunch of banshees.

Makes me glad these games stay single player.

Sounds like nug nuggets to me.

I leave the groups on Live if the members are under 15. I suppose that's a little immature from my part, but I'm not into making little boys cry. And I wouldn't, if they would just not cuss my mum and tell me to go make sandwiches.

Little ****s.

Anyways, I also know of a few under 18's on here that behave like model citizens. I try not to discriminate by age more than necessary, but sometimes it IS necessary. Not all teenagers are capable of having mature discussions about war, politics, or sex.

Well what you say is true, but also for some 20 and even 30 years olds. I just find it too easy to put an age label on people and then give them credit accordingly. Have you ever seen the pictures of german soldiers in Afghanistan who posed for the camera with skulls of war/prewar victims that went through all media in germany? You'd think something like this can't happen but alas it does.

I'm always born 010180 even if I'm older in real life, just easy to type/find.

As said before, clear your coockies and try again.

Pshht, I've been lying on those things since I was, like, fourteen. I still do it now even though I'm old enough because it's just such a pain to scroll to my actual birthdate.

I totally agree but they have to be seen doing something to stop the kiddies getting onto sites they shouldn't.

The united states games industry is self-regulated and maintains a 17 and up requirnment for M rated games across the entire country. There is NOWHERE in the US that requires you to be 18. (Though I believe Aussies have an 18+ rating. I have no idea about the Euro system).

On the main topic at hand... If lieing about your age on a gaming website is the worst thing you ever do online, then you are squeeky clean compared to most teens. I think the most common use of library computers at my highschool(possibly after facebook) was porn. >_>.

Its a nice theory, but without being backed up by any sort of ID system.... Pretty much meaningless.

Same here - except ten years older than you. I keep forgetting I only need to scroll down a little bit (and that for my own privacy I'd probably be better off changing the date every time).

No one actually cares about those.

They are for legal reasons only, and you are one of the few people that I have ever seen take them seriously.

I gotta hand it to the OP, though. Honesty is always the best Policy...even in annoying little things like this where maturity and age really don't correlate.

Even thought I am 24, my birthday on every site is 1/1/1900-1930's

I don't know anyone that actually takes the time to input their actual birthday.

i am sure if they compiled the stats for DOB from that page, over 50% of the people would seem to be born on 1st Jan

I always say I was born in the '50s, even though I'm only 20. Problem solved. It's not like it matters a great deal.
