one can llook at the Chantry and see a part of every religion in the world.

Yes I mean all of them, becuase at some point, each religion in the world committed a crime also commited by another.

nice day to you.

on that note to the OP:

you want to be inspired to create anything fictional, just walk outside and take a look around.

I've many of books on the Early Church, and the crusades. It's kind of my guilty pleasure, and the fact I'm Catholic. By the way, if anyone was wonder, I'm one of six children. So when I said five brothers and sisters I meant them together.

You know what send it to me.

Then dont get mad when i get the ancient history out and write my own thesis on the history that you forgot to include.  Cause i can assure you that if its only 50 pages you didnt not go as far back into history as i am talking about.

Which periods are you speaking of? I'll admit that my thesis concentrated on the Abrahamic Three, but I did lay it out chronologically beginning with early Jewish persecution, until roughly the War of the Roses.

BioWare has always been pretty fair in their depiction of the Chantry, given what they have to deal with in their world.

If they discovered a tomb with a High dragon guarding it and Jesus's ashes in a urn I probably wondering what part of the gospel I wasn't reading.

nothing(unlerss your a fan of Mr. Stroker's work or you like to read history....)

Dude i would love to sit and talk about this but wow my brain is not in the mood to get into all the details.(that and i dont remember names and times off the top of my head at 2am)

That said i would love to read you paper.

As long as we can all agree to disagree, since thesis is really all about one opinion based on facts. Which is something i am fully ok with.

I read the book, "On the Threshold of Hope," by Pope John Paul II and it refers to the jews as, "Elder Brothers." I have the utmost respect for God's people. Err, sorry if I offend anyone by that, but yeah. I try to visit the Holy Land often.

Yes I am aware of this , Vlad the Impaler's sure name was used after  the author went to Translevania( Modern day Romania I believe)
Impaled his enemies( both the ones in his court and muslim invaders both)
the time he lived also gave us the mass murderers Richard the Lionhearted( King Richard III) and his islamic conterpart.( you kill any number of people, regardless of why you are a murderer imo)

Well you have done something i cant do and that is watch the movie.  I just cant do it. I dont need to see that.
I have enough of a imigination so i seen in my mind what was done when i read the book.

In fact i have never watched any of the movies like that, even the ones done from old testament.

Well, since things seem to be somewhat civil, I'll toss out the crux of the essay. One professor attempted to call me out on "sidestepping" the real issue, but he was grasping at straws.:)

In short, many religions simply became the banner for various political institution, and in the case of the Catholic Church, transcended the role of religion.

Persecution, whether it be of the Jewish populations or early Christians, stemmed not from religion but political motivation. For example, Christians taught that women should have a role in government (indeed, all early non-travelling priests were female) and that all people were created equal. Rome saw this as a political, not religious, threat and acted accordingly.

Likewise, when Rome made Catholicism the official religion of the state, the added a secondary layer of social infrastructure to their civilization. When Rome fell, the Church had to adapt into a political organization with political motivations to prevent the collapse of Western civilization. It did, and was demonized for doing so by anachronistic scholars. The Catholic Church, up until very modern times (ie. Second Vatican Council), needs to be treated as what it was - a political organization that had its origins as a religion.

Lastly, I'll quickly present the rise of Martin Luther and the Protestants. Martin Luther was probably the most hardcore Catholic out there and was very miffed about the Church acting like a political entity. He called for a return to pure Scripture-based Christianity. The last thing he wanted was a schism, but the political rivals of the Church (ie. Germanic powers, England) latched onto his ideas because they would free them from the political power (mostly taxing) that the Church exerted. Religion did not cause the Protestant Wars - it merely gave rulers who were tired of being lorded over by a distant power a way to rally the people in their attempts for autonomy.

Anyway... a few little snippets that occur to me years later. :P

My worry is people, gamers, will play Dragon Age and use the Chantry as an opportunity to reinforce their negative feelings towards the Catholic church. I know any of this is probably absurd for me to think but I can't stop reading over and over in the forums people saying, “Well the Chantry is based heavily off of the Catholic Church.” So thisnmakes me worried that maybe in the next game the main antagonist will be the Chantry, and kind of fuel the already negative vibe the Catholic Church has now.

Do fans project their dislike of Christianity (not just Catholicism) onto the Chantry? Oh yes.

It's a fairly narrow-minded and bigoted viewpoint, and I'm sure that's not what the developers intended. The actual portrayal of the Chantry by BioWare is more positive and nuanced than people acknowledge.

Both of you are right and wrong.

Vlad II gained the nickname Vlad Dracul (Dracul meaning dragon) when he joined the Order of the Dragon, a Christian organization like the Templars created to hold back the Ottomens from Hungry and later the Holy Roman Empire.

Therefore, his son was called Vlad Dracula. 'Son of the Dragon.'

Also, a cooler tid-bit: Vlad the Impaler was called such because he impaled people on stakes up through their rectums and into their chest cavities. He made people-sicles.
