I thought I heard that all of the content had enough XP to get to level fifty, but I don't think it is actually fifty. Mr. Thomas?

50 is the hard cap, reserved for expansions and so on (like awakening). the main game has achievemets for reaching levels 10 and 20, so 20 is probably already a very big deal.

quick question not sure if its been answered ( sorry if it has ) but are specialization points considered to be different from talent points, for example say you have a level 20 character ( that means 20 talent points ) would we have to sacrifice some talent points so we can unlock the specialization skills ( sorry if that was confusing, almost confused myself lol )

Spec points are different from talent points.

does that mean we get more than 2 spec points ( the ones to unlock the spec )?

While you are helping us Mr. Thomas, has a level cap been decided?

Level cap is 50.

The level table goes up to 50. There isn't enough experience in the game to get there without cheating or finding a bug. I don't know if the expected level cap has been released, but can probably be inferred from things I've said.

however you cant hit the cap ..... most people are guessing around 20-25 be max lv without dlc
it just gos to 50 to leave room for dlc and the like

what he said ...Mr. Thomas would  know more than me Image IPB^^^^

There also seems to be an achievement for activating the day/night toggle, so I wouldn't necessarily say these things are "big deals".

There are only 3 specs per character class.. So getting more than 2 would remove the very point of 'specialization',

Great job on those descriptions! Much clearer than dao.
One thing I've noticed is that Winter's Grasp description doesn't mention the debuffs duration, is it a typo or what?

Certain abilities have things like that. It was an editting decision.

Yeah, can't wait to see mage spell trees as well, but if someone from Bioware would take a peek at this thread I'd like a question answered, now that we have 60 talents for every class (apart from specializations), and we have an achievement for reaching level 20, how many talent points are we gonna have in a single playthrough? not taking into account story related points, that means we have 20 points to spend on 60 talents?

It depends on the amount of side content you do and other sources of points. In my Nightmare playthrough, I ended up having 4 chains (both weapon chains and 2 specs) heavily invested on my player character.

Thanks a lot! Your contributions to this thread were actually much more interesting to me than the majority of information we got on DA2 for the last few weeks. ^_^ While you are here, would you mind answering a few questions regarding talents and nightmare mode?

I thought I read somewhere only one dev was able to actually beat the game on nightmare. Is that true?

Also, is there friendly fire on nightmare and - if yes - does it apply to mage spells only?

As I plan to go for nightmare on my first playthrough I am interested in your lineup for the nightmare run. I suppose a balanced setup with one mage, one warrior, one rogue + any other character is a good idea for nightmare !?

i know that im talking about unlocking the talents withing the specialization ( DAO example: blood control for a blood mage ).

Hm. For nightmare, I am willing to bet that you would need a perfect set-up with a very dedicated tank, good healer, and the rest two mage in such a way as to fully utilise cross-class combos.

@Clever - the 'talents' in any given specialization are regular skills - specialization points only unlock the trees themselves, to unlock the skills, you still pay with skill pts.

Thank you sir . If I may be so bold, what level did you end on last time you played DA II?

Edit: Took apart the pyramid.

 @ the Bio Guy

The blood mage's spell that rips apart enemies (like the one in the video) have you messed around with that? Does it do physical damage or a 1 hit KO if they don't pass a resistance check?

That's Crushing Prison's animation, and it happens if the enemy dies while under the effect of the spell.

that magic spell in the video was the "finisher" version of crushing prison i believe.

One thing that isn't mentioned implicitly in the descriptions is whether or not the spells have friendly fire. Can we just go by if it says if effects enemies it doesn't have friendly fire or is there another way to tell?

I wonder how playable it will be to max out both primal and elemental.

So if you finish off a dragon with crushing prison, would there be an animation for that?

Hmm, does anyone know, if we'll be able to assign a point or 2 in any of the skill talents during character creation, like in Origins?

I think I'm going for the cross-class combos. Something like:

WARRIOR (Aveline):

Weapon and Shield
1. Shield Bash
2. Pummel (STAGGER chance: 100%)
3. Shield Defense (+25% vs. frontal attacks)
4. Shield Wall (Damage resistance: +50% vs. rear attacks)
5. Perception (Effect: Immune to flanking)
6. Safeguard (Effect: Immune to critical hits)

Warmonger
7. Pommel Strike
8. Pommel Blow (STAGGER chance: 100%)
9. Taunt (Threat transfer: 100% from companions to warrior)

ROGUE (Isabela):

Dual Weapon
1. Unforgiving Chain
2. Explosive Strike
3. Merciless Strike (Physical damage: 400% vs STAGGERED targets)

Scoundrel
4. Blindside
5. Twist the Knife (Critical chance: 100% vs. stunned targets!)
6. Back-to-Back
7. Follow-Through
8. Brand (+10% crit vs. target for warriors and mages)

Specialist
9. Power (3% vs. normal enemies)
10. Stunning Power (3% vs. normal enemies)
11. Slashing Power (11 vs. stunned targets)

MAGE (Player Character):

Primal
1. Chain Lightning
2. Chain Reaction  (Electricity damage: 600% vs. STAGGERED targets)

Creation
3. Heal
4. Heroic Aura (Attack: +15% for all party members, Defense: +8% for all party members)
5. Valiant Aura (Damage: +10% for all party members, Critical chance: +10% for all party members)
6. Haste (Attack speed: +50% for all party members)
7. Greater Haste

Arcane
8. Elemental Weapons (Effect: Elemental damage bonus on staff type for all party members)
9. Mind Blast
10. Stunning Blast (Stun chance: 100% vs. normal enemies)

So these are the talents in DA 2. What about skills? Are they still there or removed?
