What happened to the force mage?

That's a spec, not one of the normal talent trees.

Ah, and I'm assuming that specs have their own mini trees?

Yes but they don't seem to be in the demo this guy was playing.

Each spec has a full 10-abilty tree, just like any other. Nothing 'mini' in there.

I think it adds +2x to elemental damage, making enemies, well, catch fire (and pat it out - so basically, they're out of the combat for a wee bit longer, like a knockdown). I can't give you precise source, but the 2x elemental I think I saw in one of the preview vids, and the effects of elemental dmg were confirmed in this thread a bit back.

Looks really well done. Looking forward to playing with this. Warrior, in particular, now looks more interesting to me than it originally did.

I mean you can skip a couple of skills (mostly upgrades) but the rest you HAVE to buy....as I said it was my understanding Bioware wanted to move away from that model

To me its more that mostly they've avoided the player having to get absolutely useless talents in order to get higher ones. Having upgrades helps in this as well.

Yeah I'm mildly disappointing I wont be able to pick and choose more freely along the webs but ultimately I never really intended to go that far anyways on Webs i wasn't going to really work on so it, ultimately, doesn't bother me.

My current idea for my Warrior I think will end up being the 4 main Reaver talents, most if not all of there upgrades and I dunno about that last passive, no idea what it is. Past that I need to look over warrior again, write some stuff down try to get a 1-10 plan down for that. Definitly mix in Berserker Rage at 14+. Definitly thinking part of Warmonger for that dmg boost and taunt. Really drag stuff in and do lots of 2H big AoE stuff. Maybe have mages for extra party protection and use Varric for the ranged rogue thing.

thanks a lot for taking the time to answer all ours question, it's really making the wait for the demo a bit easier to handle :) would I be lucky enough for you to answer a second question? the cross class effect like staggered or disorient, do they work on both as well? Because if they do, oh my!!! sword and shield along with dual wild rogue looks like a match made in heaven!

Not sure exactly what you mean.

An enemy can only have a single cross-class combo effect on them at a time. If they are Brittle and you apply Stagger, the Brittle effect disappears. Also, when an ability triggers bonus damage/force/effect off that CCC effect, the CCC effect is removed.

CCC effects are set up so that a single class creates them (Warrior = Stagger, Rogue = Disorient, Mage = Brittle) and the other 2 classes have abilities that exploit it.

I am sorry I am not a native english speaker and I propably wasn't very clear. I was just asking if it's even possible to put a staggered or disoriented status effect on a boss or are they simply immune to these kind of effect because, well they boss and boss are often immune to  certain stuff.

As the upgrades all seem to be the DA:O version, I'd figure it sets enemies on fire.

Maybe you're stealthing to be able to escape from a fight. And Lightning may be weaker damage wise, but it's safer on Nightmare more since Tempest / Chain Lightning doesn't target friendly creatures. Plus I think it was mentioned that Lightning attacks can damage their stamina meaning opponents can't use as many abilities too.

There is an actual talent that allows you to escape from a fight. The upgraded version even stuns whoever was attacking you.  But I guess I see your point because you can stealth while in combat  even if it does sound inferior to that other talent I mentioned.

Is it just me or do we have access to a lot more abilites in DA2 than we had in Origins? It seems that way.

Warriors and Rogues have access to more abilities, mages have access to less.

You're right.I'll guess the reason was to give to the three classes the same number of abilities.

Lightning can affect a larger area than fire, affects only enemies, and electricity damage has a chance to stun. Also, Firestorm rains down fireballs within its AoE radius. Each of those explodes damaging creatures near it for that much damage. It's not damaging everyone in the Firestorm AoE.

Not to mention it has double the duration, Tempest seems like an awesome spell... definitely picking it up for Merrill B)

I really hope she has Primal (probably, since there's already Beth who lacks that tree), so I can make her the ultimate nuker, and Anders the ultimate healer/support mage, while Beth will be a mix of them.

I'm pretty sure she has Primal, and as some speculation goes, she lacks Creation ~sigh~ :?

Yeah, probably she lacks Creation. Of course I hope not, but since I'll prefer to make her a completely damage-dealer, it's not a big loss to me (though if she has Creation I will give her Heal)

Its actually 'more' for Mages just not as a base (not counting Awakening) and not in total since you can't get all 3 specializations. If you count the 2 specializations, Mages had 76 Talents to pick from. If you count the 2 specializations for DA2 its 80. So Mages still eek out ahead in DA2, but only barely once you count that. If you ignore specializations its 68 DAO vs 60 base DA2. Pretty comparable actually. And then as said, Warrior and Rogues just got way better in DA2. All around its just more sexy if you ask me.

-edit-
That was to the whole number of Talents and all that. For Merrill, I personally hope she lacks Elemental. Primal tree would be perfect for party friendly AoE damage. And Creation would let me do a Druidy build for her, I mean I can do it with 'out' heal and whatnot but I'd rather not.

Either way heres hoping for Primal on Merrill!

With such a high cooldown on Heal, though, it remains to be seen how tempting it will even be to use it.  I'm very curious about the Spirit Healer.  Perhaps they have something that can be used more frequently.  Or perhaps the shift has been taken off of reactive defense and placed completely on proactive defense- avoiding/preventing damage entirely instead of healing it after it has been dealt.

There are screenshots with Merrill casting fire magic, so probably she has Elemental. Since Bethany lacks Primal, I don't think they're gonna do two mages with the same general trees.

I'm curious, when a talent/spell says it requires x points in y tree, do upgrades count for the amount of points needed?

uh, seeing how some talents require 7 points in that tree with only 5 basic Talents. YES.

Oh, I didn't look at every talent/spell. Thanks for pointing that out. :)
