Hey Peter in the Destiny trailer Hawke uses what appears to be blood magic to rip his foe in half, but I've heard other people say it wasn't blood magic and instead was crushing prison. Can you tell us the tree it really belongs to? Thanks much:)

asking again.

Blood magic can be used to fuel normal spells such as Crushing prison.

To succeed on nightmare, should we expect to be switching equipment from S&S to 2H and back again all the time to take advantage of Disorient and Brittle in turn?

Will specializing in one style not be viable on harder difficulties?

I can answer this question myself. I think it is foolish to spread yourself thin when talent points are so limited. Its probably best to pick one style and stick with it in nightmare, so that you are really good at what you do.

The reason I ask is because arcane shield/ arcane wall is a permanent aura that does something similar. The wording isnt clear on rally and last push. I would expect last push to be really good for being a level 14 ability.

Something that wasn't in that build... Arcane Wall gives a reduced benefit to party members, 5% not the full 20%. And it doesn't stack.

That said, a Mage who activates Arcane Shield while under the effect of another Mage's Arcane Shield will get the 20% bonus, not the 5% one. They're both on the character, but it only pays attention to the higher one. The same thing is used for slow effects. If you Winter's Grasp (-50% slow) an enemy who is already affected by Cone of Cold (-75% slow), the enemy will only be -75% slow. When that wears off, they will be at -50% until Winter's Grasp wears off too. Most partywide buffs are non-stacking like that.

Edit: Except for slow effects, they don't stack if they're from the same ability. Getting an Attack bonus from 2 different abilities is fine.

@Sabresandiego: Yeah, though rule of thumb is the upgrades effect the abilities them selves directly. Rally and Second Wind are 'active' abilities. Meaning you activate them for a base stamina/mana cost and they do there thing. It's all direct, either a duration based buff or an attack.

Arcane Shield is a sustained ability, so you turn it on and it stays on till you turn it off. It sections off a % of your mana instead of costing a static amount. So when you get the upgrade that turns it into a party buff, its still a sustained ability tand keeps giving them all the bonuses while it remains on.

That was a vfx and animation used for the Crushing Prison deathblow on the Ogre in some of the demos.

Not sure if this has been answered. If you have 2 mages and they both use sustained abilities like Heroic Aura or Arcane Shield do they stack?

My only Warrior in my main playthrough was Aveline, so I didn't switch weapons. My Rogue Hawke, however, I switched weapon styles all the time.

That's a marketing decision.

I ask because in the trailer it looked like a demon was summoned. Only Blood Magic can do that. To my knowledge anyway.

Just asking. Is ther still weapon quick-swap like in Origins?

But wasn't there ever a time when you thought, "Man, I wish I could give Aveline a two-hander"? *whistles innocently*

Just because Hawke is demonic looking doesn't mean he's a demon. :P

?? I wasn't talking about Hawke. I was talking about the Demon arms he summoned, or appeared to anyway.

Oh, I didn't mean to insunuate that your character would be interchangeable with Aveline, sorry. What I meant to say is that I wish that there is someway to build a tank in a way that doesn't feel like Aveline could just step in and say to me "Ok, my turn" and replace me . I saw from vids where she has the Guardian spec which would probably make her great at defensive tanking which is why I decided to try out offensive tanking just to be different from her. I too don't find her all that awesome as a character which is probably a reason why I want my Hawke to be different from her. Then again I don't know her at all.

I know what you meant, and I haven't seen her that much either.  But the MANarms have got to go lol.

While I did feel a little bit of that in Origins with Alistair, I still really enjoyed MY tank because he wasn't a spineless wuss lol.  It'll be the same with Aveline.  Even though yes, she could tank much the same way as I could, she still will be a very butch girl and will probably only have a place on my party when I'm feeling adventurous and play a mage.  Also, as a I said earlier, I like to control the PC and I have yet to see an AI do it as well as I can.

@atheelogos: Watch the trailer again - there Hawkes arms, not a demons. He's putting his arms through mini-portals and 'expanding them' when they come out of the bigger portal. Why hes scribing stuff on his bicep prior to the whole ordeal. He's literally ripping that thing apart him self.

I didn't really use her that way... but if I did, and it was possible, it would have been for Mighty Blow and Whirlwind specifically when enemies were bunched up around her or in a doorway.

From the front page I probably would have gone 1-3-6-7-9-10-8.

Does that mean Aveline will have two-handed tree? :o

I hadn't realized that it was completely impossible. Do you mean that Aveline lacks the 2H skill line the same way Isabella lacks Archery?

Is Fenris similarly without access to sword-n-board?

No, it just means that is what he WOULD pick if it WERE possible, meaning that that's what he'd pick if he had a 2 Handed Warrior.

Can you bug them about releasing more info? I personally would really like more official info instead of what seems to be relying on leaks.

I don't know, I'm almost about to write to EA to complain about how poorly they're marketing DA2, and the lack of information <_<

Cool, thanks for that. I was under the impression that Arcane Wall gave a 20% defense bonus across the board.

As awesome as that animation is... I just don't see the connection.  I mean Crushing Prison is the application of magical force to immobilize and damage a foe.  I just hope the other magic deathblows don't have animations that could be misconstrued for Blood Magic.  That does lead to an interesting question, though.  Are the magic deathblows tied to continual damage spells or just certain spells?

Are we harrassing him? I certainly agree that the detailed answers are wonderful to have -- but of course we always just want more.
