Hmm, that makes picking a build a lot harder (which is a good thing imo).
I'm really having a tough time thinking of a mage build right now, and I don't even know the skills of the specialisation yet.

Btw, I know Force and (most probably) Blood magic are 2 mage specialisations. But does anyone know the third one?

I don't know but if we indeed get only 20 points to spend on abilities, the choices are gonna be overwhelming.. I mean we have 80 abilities and upgrades to choose from (60 + 20 from two specs)... I do hope there's some way to get more points in the game though, I remember in the Giant Bomb video Mike said you can max out two trees and still have some points to spend on some other trees... that means more than 20 points... I hope so.

Edit: Mike exactly said: "You can buy entire schools (skill trees) and still move on"... that means that we get more skill points in the game :P

Hmpf...

While really exited about rogues and warriors (mostly rogues) trees, i'm quite disapointed with the mages trees. Guess i'm not going to see Carver very often...

Its been said that we will get around 25ish in one playthrough so what you say is true we do get enough for two trees and have some from other trees.

Here's hoping Death Syphon and Death Vortex are actually useful in combat. Death Magic in DAO seemed completely useless to me. It never seemed to start sucking in health until after combat was over, at which point I was already healing anyway. I know others said it was part of a perfect (broken) build for a Blood Mage, but I never got this aspect of the build to work.

Anyway, completely cool. I'm going to have to spend some time looking over all of this and contemplating possible builds. Major kudos to the OP.

Wow, I'm really disappointed they took the summoned swarm out of the creation tree for mages. I really liked that power in Origins.

Hmmm just 25? that's a bummer considering we have 80 different choices... well I guess that'll make me more careful trying to find the best combination of talents and spells for my party.

Screw it! I'm blind folding myself and picking the class at random so as to not waste time fussing over which to choose..

I think that we'll get more than 25 points to spend. The level cap is 50, for one, and if we were so restricted on points then I don't see the logic behind giving us two specializations.

Mage looks awesome as well. Can you buy both upgrades to a talent? Or is it one or the other. For example, selecting both shattering & killing blow for might blow.

I certainly hope we get more but the level cap they talked about is what's supported in-game not the max level you can reach, in the achievements there's an achievement for levels 10 and 20... so I'm thinking 20 is the max we can reach in one playthrough... if we get 1 point per level like Origins we'll be so restricted, or maybe the higher you go the more points you get, like from level 15 and above you get 2 points each level and so on... I certainly hope Peter or someone can clear this for us.

The cap for 50 is a buffer for DLC to add more levels.

I believe you can invest points into both.

nice, thanks for this. I was debating whether to go S&B or two handed on first playthrough. I think I'll go two handed with warmonger looks very appealing for crowd control and stunning crowds.

Too many mage spells to choose from ... I will have hard time deciding which upgrades and spells to choose. Well done Bioware :)

I'm pretty sure it's stat dependent, this is all base on characters between level 1~3. I've seen someone else playing where he was running around Kirkwell around level 5, his skill damage numbers were much higher. I think we need a guide or access to the script if we want to figure out the formula for calculating skill damage.

Ability damage is based on a characters base damage, which is based on their weapon damage + primary attribute bonuses.

As other people said, when a skill requires two other skill, it means that we have to unlock both skill or only one? I think it's the former, but I'm not sure.

Both were tested. It was decided to go with an AND requirement rather than an OR one.
