Male Hawke:
Female Hawke:

In the scene where your sibling dies there's 3 choices:

1. *olive branch* He/She died bravely. (Hawke: "Carver/Bethany gave himself/herself to save us")
2. *diamond* There's no time to mourn. (usually there's a sarcastic option here)
3. *gavel* Pull yourself together! (Hawke: "If you fall apart now, you endanger us all")

Same goes for the next dialog:
1. *olive branch* That's the best we can give. (Hawke: "Our lives are more valuable to him/her than our prayers. Let's go")
2. *diamond* She won't be alone.
3. *gavel* We've wasted enough time. (Hawke: "Leave him/her, the darkspawn are gaining by the minute")

Now in the first option Hawke acts as if some random NPC died and you're comforting their family (who seem like they have no relation to you).
In the third you act like an emotionless ******.
None of those seem fitting for a scene where your sibling (who you've spend most of your life with) dies (crappy writing).
I'm interested in what the diamond icon means and what on earth can we expect.

(btw, I still frakin hate the stupid paraphrasing since I've no idea what Hawke will say)

I assume the fist means "aggressive" whereas the gavel means "cold and pragmatic".

As for the gem, I suspect it means Hawke will say something smart. As in, brilliant.

And I have no idea what the difference between the wings and halo and the olive branch is supposed to be.

That is truer than more people will care to admit.

Theoretically, the manual will have all ingame emoticons explained. Until then, we can only guess.

Maybe it's still sarcasm? the hawke that kept picking the middle was sarcastic and snarky.

i'd wager they are like this:

the halo and wings are a "positive/good" response

the olive branch is a diplomatic response, not necessarily good or evil.

From what I've seen of the "middle" options, they aren't really "funny" more like "optimistic". So maybe the second option will show the most emotion. Or maybe the writers just failed in their satire (unlike the "suave" options in Alpha Protocol which were generally funny)

Eh. I'm a serial F5-er and save before every conversation. I can't imagine I'll be alone in picking every option, good or bad, just to see where the different branches go, and reloading before making a final choice. The element of suprise from the paraphrasing just makes it more rewarding for me. ^_^

Olive branch... probably means trying to defuse conflict - opposite to the aggressive fist. Halo... probably saintly/kind, as apposed to cynical and pragmatic. Good question on the diamond.

Also, did anyone actually get to hear the olive branch option for the first set, or are we just assuming it'll be that trite?

I heard it a few months ago in a leaked video, but I can't find the video now.

Only thing I can gather from that is that the leaf is meant to represent an olive branch, perhaps?

Edit:  Pro-tip for not being redundant - do not leave the add reply window open for a few minutes before posting.

You're definitely not alone. I'm the same way.

In the first 2 videos there is something else in the middle.

Since we know that demo is an older build, could be the diamond was the former icon for the sarcastic choice.

No. You can clearly see the "smiling face" icon in other dialogues. And besides, the sarcastic icon has been the same since August

Then based on the dialogs, I'd say it is an optimistic/light-hearted response.

Based on what? - All I've seen is the sarcastic ones; I've only seen the diamond on the two mentioned above - have you seen other vids where the diamond option was chosen? Or is it the text that you're going on?... if you don't mind my asking; just curious.

Well theres something like 12 or so different intent icons for that stuff. I doubt they all fit perfectly into the 3 'personalities' most of em probably have little sway on it. And yeah no idea wtf diamonds would be, probably would help if he selected it instead of picking the ass remarks.

On the plus side if you watch the beginning of 3/5th and the end of 2/2 one you seeing when Hawke decides 'we go south' he had been picking witty/sarcastic stuff most of the time. Where as in 3/5 its been all **** brigade. The lines delivered differently. Sarcastic was something like 'well if its between south and dying, Im picking south'. Where as aggressive Hawke just lays it out 'im not running straight into the hoard, we go south'.

Yeah I noticed that they were different, though the sarcastic options aren't really funny...

Maybe the purple diamond thing when bro hawke or sis hawke dies is a stoic option

All of them are stoic options. Hawke doesn't show emotion in either.

Coins or a moneypouch would be more obvious...
