No, not all the doors you see in the game will lead to places. Thsi is done for a few reasons.

You expect a city to have lots of doors if it has lots of buildings. We could remove buildings, but then it would not look much like a city. We could make buildings without doors, but this would look like a bunch of shoeboxes with windows,

We could have each door open to a basically empty room. This would be a big memory expense and, after a short while, would become extrenely boring as you opened every door to make sure you didn't miss anything.

We could make the doors real, but lock all of them and prevent them from opening. This would also be a memory drain (real doors instead of background art doors) and it would drive rogues nuts as they keep trying to pick the locks and get nowhere.

The way we have it, if you see a door that actually IS a door, then you know it has purpose and you shoudl check it out. The remaining doors add to the overall atmosphere of the area.

But you do agree that we have to step through the doors, no?

Then there's the other thing about door that otherwise lead of the map, like Redcliff's tavern. Why is there nothing at the top of those stairs behind that door? Why?

Ladies and gentleman, ask yourself how much you really know about my opponent Scorp here? Is he a trustworthy candidate as he claims, or does he have secret communist allegiances? Probing further into his past my agents found he once stole a piece of gum when he was six years old. This man is capable of anything.

Vote Drake!

As much as I loved Baldur's Gate, which was FULL of houses, all of which had real doors so you could get in a steal a bunch of stuff, I will admit that, because I felt no need to actually go into every single one, and the important ones weren't marked, I missed a bunch of stuff. So, it's a give-and-take.

Where IRL can you just randomly walk in people's houses? Why would you need that?

If your a warlord in parts of Africa, or a collection agent for one of the various mobs, or if your a federal police officer/ goverment agent, in most nations on the globe. As to the whys, doesn't matter if your any of the above.

Or as noted above, your a thief who wants to steal everything they can lulz. Pretty much only Laws and yourself and in the case of parts of the US buckshot keep you from doing this.

You do it in Redcliffe and Denerim anyway (Dwyn, Goldanna). You're the Hero that's gonna save the world, and you're acquisitioning supplied. Such is the life of Heroes.

And I can't help but think about Diablo II, in the first Act, there were all those houses and some of them didn't even have doors to begin with. Poor idiots got eaten by zombies, unless... *gasp* they WERE the Zombies...

Anywhere, really.
You'll have to deal with the consequences, though.

I'd like to think of most of the doors in the world as being locked. Maybe its just me being ~optimistic~:innocent:

PFT thats what a boot and your legs are for!  Or in the case of a dead bolt a huge chunk of wood or someone thats stupid to ram into it till it breaks!  You youth of today know nothing of the fine art of robbing, burning things, and general destruction. Vote for me as your champion and the streets will run red with the blood of BOTH the chantry and the mages! Or the Orphans, honestly I'm all for equality, all are equally worthless in my eyes.

Vote for me, you might not live long, but boy it will be fun!

I like the doors that drive rogues crazy idea. Alternatively you could make a door that opens and behind it is another door, and behind this another etc.

I happen to BE a mage by preference. So tell me why this is compelling me to vote for you?

And aren't Champions made, not voted for?

Oh no, this is Orzammar all over again.

Facades are a pet peeve of mine but a necessary evil if the devs are to create a good looking illusion while keeping resource use low, Fallout 3 had 100s more doors than actual interiors, that's of course until the "DC Interiors" mod came along, those kind of facades I can live with to a degree, the most annoying ones to me would be a large open tent with a basic square collision geometry around it, you can see inside but not walk in.

Because before you die you can eat babies or turn into a horrible monster and kill all your friends! Everyone knows mages want to do that. And now its okay!

Lol think I'm done now...but yes background doors don't bother me, seen plenty of games with em, and they do make it look like more people are there.

Opening doors never really seemed like much of a intriguingactivity, not something I'd really want to make a habit of in a piece of entertainment, I get the feeling of adventure from doing things like sailing...or walking from one place to another. Although, I should perhaps be worried about the fact that mass murder and violence are things of interest, but anyway...

Chris was once attacked by a door while play testing, I think Neverwinter Nights, thus the hate for doors. (No I'm not joking.)

You could always unlock them.
If not, have a rogue be by your side.
