why is everyone a mage in this thread?

Not me! I'm an archer! And a sneaky one at that. You won't be finding Salvador Hawke casting any spells!

I know that in the demo we get a starting talent for each class, but are we allowed to pick what starting talent that is in the regular game or no? :(

Also, do we know how many talents the specs are supposed to have?

10, between normal talents and upgrade. I belive every tree has 10 talents/skills.

Warriors get Pommel Strike.
Mages get Mind Blast.
Rogues get Miasama Bomb.

10 points go into each tree, though how many actual abilities and how many upgrades changes from tree to tree.

And now for Rogue, once again assuming we can get to around 25:
Dual Weapon:
Unforgiving Chain
Explosive Strike+Merciless Strike
Backstab+Murder+Perforate
Twin Fangs+Reverse Grip

Specialist:
Speed+Lightning Speed+Energizing Speed
Harmony

Specialization:
Duelist, maxed

EDIT: the 2 remaining points would go into Power and Precision, for unlocking Harmony.

Well.. I know Templar takes 10 points to max out, so does Berserker. So based solely on that I'm guessing 10 points per spec?

It says Harmony requires: Speed, Precision, Power.

I was going for something similar.

Rogue

Dual Weapon
Unforgiving Chain/Explosive Strike
Backstab/Murder/Perforate
Twin Fangs/Reversed Grip
Lacerate/Main

Sabotage
Rush/Charge/Blitz
Fatiguing Fog/Overpowering Fog/Impenetrable Fog
Miasmic Flask

Specialist
Speed
Precision
Power
Harmony

Rest saved for specs, or might consider the Arcane Fortress/Arcane Shield/Arcane Wall tree. Though to save points im thinking having one of my party members having it will work just as good.

Right, which is where the last couple of points would go. The build i listed would only reach about lv23, leaving 2 points for Speed and Precision if we reach about lv25

Oh, I so do love making build, God knows why. I’ll probably change it, eventually, but:

Lv.20 Mage (Spirit Healer)
Elemental: 4
Winter's Blast: 2
Deep Freeze: 2
----------------------------------
Spirit: 1
Spirit Bolt
----------------------------------
Arcane: 4
Elemental Weapons
Stunning Blast
Arcane Shield
Crushing Prision
----------------------------------
Creation: 4
Greater Heal
Valiant Aura
Glyph of Paralysis
Glyph of Repulsion

The rest goes to the Spirit Healer tree. I like Spirit Healers and Ice Mages.

Nice build. Good support, but has some nice offensive power to compensate. I really REALLY wanted to fit Glyph of Repulsion into my build. But it was too expensive, plus I wanted those other spells alot more.

I like to combine my builds with the personality of my character. My Rogue Human Noble used archery because god forbidden her to get a dagger, blood could spill in her clothes. This Spirit Healer of mine likes to help people, but it's very, very easily annoyed. I thought that a good supporting spells combined with cold spells would fit him just fine.

Lol if we're doing this from a roleplay perspective then I guess my Hawke is a aggressive character. He likes doing damage, he likes getting his hands dirty, and he likes to be versatile. Hense Rock Armor, and the variety of elemental spells. He'll be specializing in Blood Magic.

This talent system kinda works bad Imo. For a mage I really want to have lightning/fire talents to the max and don't really want to have ice/rock talents. And it doesn't work for me because in order to have elemental masteries i have to take those talents, because 7 talents are required.

Why not put all elemental skills into one BIG tree? Or who says Lightning and Earth are related as well are Ice and fire?? Doesn't make sense.

You're only *wasting* 3 points to reach the latter spell so it's nowhere near as bad as you make it seem.

Hi everyone, I'm a complete Dragon Age noob.

Would anyone please explain what's the difference between "damage" and "attack", and between "damage resistance" and "defense"? Thanks a bunch!

Also, I'm considering a Two-Handed Vanguard/Defender since Whirlwind looks too good to pass on. Would that be viable? What should I be careful with?

I'm aiming for Cyclone/Tornado, Claymore/Massacre, Bulwark/Elemental Shroud.

Going for a sort of glass canon warrior with massive AOE damage and massive Stamina in general.

This is extremely, extremely tentative. I've also excluded specializations, though I'm interested in Force Mage. I'd also like to delve a little further into Primal if we gain extra points (due to plot reasons and/or tomes of arcane technique and the like).

1 Mind Blast

2 Chain Lightning

3 Heal

4 Stunning Blast

5 Glyph of Paralysis

6 Stonefist

7 Tempest

8 Glyph of Binding

9 Strikes Twice

10 Spirit Bolt

11 Dispel Magic

12 Spirit Strike

13 Glyph of Defiance

14 Golem’s Fist

15 Petrify

16 Dessicate

17 Galvanize

18 Winter’s Grasp

19 Cone of Cold

20 Winter’s Blast

I thought it was mentioned the other thread that specialization points are separate from talent points? Is that not the case here?

<edit> found the quote

quick question not sure if its been answered ( sorry if it has ) but are specialization points considered to be different from talent points, for example say you have a level 20 character ( that means 20 talent points ) would we have to sacrifice some talent points so we can unlock the specialization skills ( sorry if that was confusing, almost confused myself lol )

Spec points are different from talent points.

You only gain 2 specialization points the entire game, and you use these points to unlock a specialization. Once unlocked however, you must use regular talent points to advance in the chain.

1a. Damage - The damage you do before resitances and armor is applied.
1b. Attack - Chance for an attack to land.
1c. Damage resistance - the amount of damage you negate before damage is applied.
1d. Defense - Your chance to evade a physical attack.

2. Outside of speculation, we won't really know until the 8th. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd just do what I did in DAO. Use an ability to draw enemies to you, then swing that lumbering weapon.

Cool to see build ideas. It seems like build might be even more important in da2 as there are even more choices. I had a though time even in da:o to do a great Mage build so I will take inspiration from these. Still not sure what specializations to take.

For the heck of it, Anders & Fenris' potential builds with the male Hawke I posted earlier:

ANDERS
Primal:
Stonefist
Petrify
Rock Armor
Chain Lightning > Chain Reaction
Tempest > Strikes Twice
Galvanism
Spirit:
Dispel Magic
Arcane:
Barrier > Arcane Fortress
Arcane Shield > Arcane Wall > Elemental Shield
Creation:
Heroic Aura > Valiant Aura
Haste > Greater Haste
Heal > Greater Heal

FENRIS
2 Handed:
Mighty Blow > Shattering Blow > Killer Blow
Scythe > Reaper
Whirlwind > Tornado > Cyclone
Vanguard:
Might > Muscle
Assail > Besiege
Battlemaster:
Rally > Unite
Battle Synergy > Fearless Synergy
Bolster
Last Push
Second Wind > Deep Breath

I left five talent points open for their unique specs.

Idk, should I change anything? Also, I'm having Aveline tank, but I don't know what her build will potentially be yet.
