Posting 30 point builds is worthless, because the game is over at that point. Its better to post 15 point builds, and show what level you get which talents. This is how you will play through most of the game, youll see your 30 point build for maybe the last 5% of the game.

Peter Thomas said that he had 4 tree heavily invested (plus 2 other skills in another tree), not maxed out. For example, he could have put 7 points in the 4 trees. With the other two skills that means is characters has 30 skills point

Yes but that is at the end of the game, after you have already finished most of the content. My point is that your first 10-15 points are the core of your character, which you can use through the majority of the game.

I don't have enough info of the game to come up with an exact build for my mage but I think I'll focus mostly in Primal, Spirit, Arcane, and Entropy if I'm lucky. As for Specializations, I'll probably go with Force Mage and Blood Mage.

Here's the 3 main Peter qoutes I think show that he wasn't maxing out 4 'webs' but instead was just invested in 4 main ones 'heavily' (not maxed, not all upgrades).

Peter Thomas wrote...

It depends on the amount of side
content you do and other sources of points. In my Nightmare playthrough, I ended up having 4 chains (both weapon chains and 2 specs) heavily invested on my player character.

Peter Thomas wrote...

Outside of those 4 chains, I think the only others my main had were Blindside and Miasmic Flask (because you start with it). I was pretty focused on damage and didn't get upgrades I didn't think were worth the investment.

1 talent point per level. The idea
behind having a lot of options is that you can play in different ways to suit your playstyle, or have multiple characters of the same class who don't feel like the same thing. You can also try playing again with a
different build if you want.

And as to the lvl 15 thing I agree. All my builds tend to be a base of 10 with a lot of wiggle room up to 25. Basically I think other then a few 'must have' upgrades its working out what I want by 10, then by 15, and then upgrading and building on that in the specializations past that point but I want my core skills by 10/15. 10, for sure, since you get that pretty damn early on it looks like. Kind of like DAO, you hit 7-10 quickly, and it slooowwlly wittled down by 20 to where lvls where coming out hours down the road instead of every half hour.

Talent tomes are extremely valuable early in the game, when you are starving for talents.

If there in DA2. They may of decided to not do bonus talents via quest/tomes at all. They may also try to keep the same amount of bonus talents (counting tomes) but did it all via side-quests, or just main story progress. Personally I'd prefer it all being via major plot points, main and side. For instance, instead of say 2-3 'tomes' it be via 2-3 side quests so, doing extra stuff nexts extra bonus instead of gold oriented.

Either way heres hoping theres some extra.

Garrett Hawke "Mr Critical" Shadow/Assassin Dual wield build.

25 points

Dual Weapon Tree (5):
Backstab (1)
Unforgiving chain (1)
Explosive strike (1)
Twin Fangs (2)

Subterfuge Tree (4):
Evade (2)
Chameleon's breath (2)

Specialist Tree (3):
Speed (3)

Shadow Specialization (3):
Pinpoint precision (1)
Disorienting Criticals (1)
Predator (1)

Assassin (10):
Whole specialization (10)

So basically a character built around being able to critical most all the time and to do very much increased critical damage, also has high damage abilities from alpha striking trees (twin fangs from dual weapon and assassinate from assassin).

Breakdown:
Character has 100% critical rate when:
Attacking from behind (predator, shadow)
For 20s every 40s (pinpoint strikes. assassin)

Character has the following boosts to critical damage:
Pinpoint precision +25% (shadow), all the time
Disorienting criticals +25% (shadow), when obscured (basically whenever chameleon's breath is used)
Assassin specialization +10%, all the time
Devious harm, +2% damage per point of cunning instead of +1% (assassin), all the time

And finally the speed stance from specialist is there to make sure he gets lots of critical hits in (more attacks in less time).

Hmm, I wonder how good criticals actually are in the game?

Edit: For the true critical afficianado, you give up your dual weapon tree alpha strike ability (no worries, still have assassinate)

25 points

Sabotage Tree (2):
Miasmic Flask (2)

Scoundrel Tree (3):
Blindside (1)
Back to back (1)
Twist the knife (1)

Subterfuge Tree (4):
Evade (2)
Chameleon's breath (2)

Specialist Tree (3):
Speed (3)

Shadow Specialization (3):
Pinpoint precision (1)
Disorienting Criticals (1)
Predator (1)

Assassin (10):
Whole specialization (10)

Basically this change (and a big change it is too), allows for 100% crit chance when you attack a stunned enemy, achievable with miasmic flask and the upgraded evade talent.

Though if Hawke is able to end up with 30 odd talents points, then you can have your cake and eat it too.

Edit: Like so!

Dream 30 point build:

Dual Weapon Tree (5):
Backstab (1)
Unforgiving chain (1)
Explosive strike (1)
Twin Fangs (2)

Scoundrel Tree (3):
Blindside (1)
Back to back (1)
Twist the knife (1)

Subterfuge Tree (6):
Miasmic Flask (2)
Evade (2)
Chameleon's breath (2)

Specialist Tree (3):
Speed (3)

Shadow Specialization (3):
Pinpoint precision (1)
Disorienting Criticals (1)
Predator (1)

Assassin (10):
Whole specialization (10)

Man, I wish I didn't have to get back to back from the scoundrel tree, I'd put the extra point in backstab and get perforate.
