 Hello,
I'm new around here. I did search around for this issue and really couldn't find anything.

Basically I bought ME1 from Direct2Drive, the game installed and worked just fine. I started following the main story line, and at the mission right after the Citadel, Mission title: FINDING LIARA. This is the mission where you start out in the vehicle.

However, only parts of the landscape are loaded and there's about 70% black area. Just plain black, like a glitch. I know it's not supposed to be there as the guide I was following had screens that showed a full rocky landscape, but I've only got a little bit.

It's not playable, as if I try and drive the vehicle I'll die if I go in the wrong area, WHICH I CAN'T SEE :P.

I can provide screens if I need to. Otherwise this game has run just fine. I've tried reloading my last save and redoing it to see if it just didn't load correctly, and go no results.
Anyone ran into this issue?

My system:
Win 7 Home Premium
2 570GTX SLi
AMD 965BE
ASUS ROG motherboard.

I doubt it's a hardware problem, but hey, you never know right?
Thanks

(To the mods, sorry for posting in the ME2 support forum, I can't edit my post unfortunately, I don't know why?!)

I think you've run into an oldie, this has been around about as long as ME1 PC.

Go into the ME1 config utility and clear the shader cache. That will hopefully clear it up long enough for you to get through the mission.

I just uninstalled/reinstalled ME. I haven't started the game yet but I will soon. I'll clear my shader cache first and post results. Two fingers crossed!

Also posted this in the ME2 forum where you also asked this question.

Officially, Win7 is not supoprted when it comes to ME1, as Win7 came out -after- ME1 was released.

If none o fthe above fixes work, try these;

1) Download and install DirectX9.0c from Microsofts website. It -should- have been downlaoded and installed with the game from D2D, but digital versions (Steam is especially guilty of this) often go with the latest version, rather than the required version. ME1 specifically requires DX9, DX10 and 11 are not backwards compatible enough to do the job.

2) Roll your video driver back to a previous revision. Newer drivers often incorporate tweaks designed to work on newer games, but often have a detrimental effect on older games such as ME1 and ME2.

3) If you have ASUS GamerOSD and/or ASUS SmartDoctor running, disable them. Known to cause occasional problems with the Mass Effect series games.
