Is there any reason NOT to play a mage?

But every tidbit I read about the storyline in DA:II makes mage seem like the most interesting class to play and the one that will affect the storyline the most (all the templar/chantry stuff that's been mentioned).
Have we heard of any interesting slants to the game if you play as a warrior or a rouge?

This is completely offtopic, but Shorts, I miss Ron Swanson. Please bring him back.

My warden character was a human mage, so I'd like to play a different class in DA:II. It would be weird to me if the two most important people in recent history in Thedas were mages (let alone human female brunette mages who might be distant cousins lol).
I don't think that's a good reason not to play what you want to play.
Do people think it's weird if both heroes turn out to be dark haired male warriors? Really, the gender bit gets me, especially--it implies that something is "wrong" if "too many" women are heroes.

That, and I personally don't like playing mages.
So - preference.

Was not mentioned if you play a mage that there is a hidden chance to save both, Carver and Bethany? So, we have to find out how this works?
I don't think so. I don't know how to find the quote, but I recall one of the writers saying the story wouldn't work right if you could save both.

This is false. One sibling always dies. If you're a mage it's Bethany. Rogue or Warrior it's Carver.

But I dunno, even though I plan to play a warrior in DAII, Mage looks SO much more active and fun, really it seems drastically improved, much more effective, more powerful, and cooler too. Hawkes final Mage robes look really bad ass.
Even if I don't play a mage right off the bat for my PC I'll definetly be rocking it and having fun playing a mage as Merrill, Bethany, or Anders in my party.

If you read the talent descriptions in this thread, the Rogue has been given many magical like abilities, including area of effect arrows, what waking nightmare used to be, and the ability to pop up almost anywhere on the battle field.
From my reading of the talents the mage has been hit with a bit of a nerf stick while the other classes have been brought to that level.
You don't need to lock yourself into a mage as they've made all the classes interesting to play.

* You're not a sissy.
* You're not a prissy boy who likes to dress up in dresses.
* You're a girl who thinks robes belong in her bedroom, not in the backstreets of Kirkwall.
* You enjoy the immediate feel of someone's flesh giving way to your blade (re: #1)

If you want to play a character that is constantly knocking around / stunning enemies then warriors are for you. If you love jumping around / acrobatics and attacking insanely fast then rogues are for you

It's the hats.
And the robes.
Very unflattering.
