Carver looks as if he's won the 'Lifetime Achievement Award for the Village Idiot of Lothering'.

If I could, I'd carry his head around and use it for a ventriloquist's dummy.

I agree. Howewer I like the fact that they made two different personalities for Carver and Bethany (though Carver could've shown a little bit more of grief).
Well, lucky me that in my two first playthrough I'm gonna play warrior and rogue (I'm really curious of trying an archery rogue, it seems a lot of fun).

Reason #1: I like swinging pointy things at people.

Reason #2: Carver, what's wrong with your faaaaaaaace?

There's only one reason I need to NOT play a mage. The two best companions in the game are both mages... and three would just make for an unbalanced party!

Unless a Magetank could really be possible with a heavy application of Force Mage, Spirit Healer and defensive modals, along with maybe splitting your points between Magic/Strength/Con for heavier armor and a larger health pool...

Well I just happen to have a sister IRL, , and to me it makes the family thing more personal.
If i could have played a mage and kept Beth , i'd do that.

I have two brothers in real life.  Carver's gonna die a squishy death.

Growing up with two sisters was a pain. Not only does it make you aware/capable of things that most blokes should not be able to do (Yes. I can curl your hair. I can even dye it, and very possibly extend the service and do basic make up for you!), it also makes your personal hygiene plumit. You get about 10 minutes in the bathroom, max. Or use it at obscure times of the day. xD.

But that has no relevence to the topic.. but yeah. Bethany is gunna die a squishy death!

Bethany.

Out of your biases and try to conceive two minutes that the character is certainly sexy, but touching, we can feel something, even from afar.

Have a little sister can play so easily on the sentimental side. Even for girls.

I want my sister with me. Carver is a proud warrior, he will sacrifice himself willingly.

Can I inquire why the general opinion is that Bethany is more wanted than Carver? Is it purely 'cause of that rather bad screenshot, or?

I mean, we've had little to no detail about any companions. I don't understand why everyone has emotionally bonded with Bethany already, and I feel left out. What's occurred without my notice?

Cause Mages look very similiar to mages in Origins and Warriors and Rogues look completely redone.

Uh, wow.  No.  Mage animations are completely different, staff and armor models are different.  There are mage finishing moves whereas there weren't any before.  I'd say all classes have had a visual remake and mages most of all.

Because finding creative ways to kill them with a sword is better?

If you don't play a mage you can choose who to side with.

And how does playing a mage make that any different?  Some mages are pro-Chantry.  My avatar mage is an Andrastian and probably the most devout of any of my PCs.  She is definitely not down with the apostate awakening.  There is no reason for you to limit your roleplay out of preconceived notions.

I want to play as a rogue archer. Anyone know if you can have the pet skill again?

Well, your sister Bethany dies and you get stuck with ordinary non-mage Carver for the rest of the game.

There are already two other characters who can help in the mage department if Bethany isn't avaliable, though. It's not like you're forced to use Carver throughout the entire game.

I can't help you with general opinion, but...

1. She's female and her death will bother me more than Carver's.

2. I like the 'protector' role, and if my little sister is an apostate mage in a city of Templars, I can fulfill that.

3. From what we've seen, Carver resents mage PC and is more inclined to argue. I have no interest in playing out that sort of relationship with a sibling.

4. If Carver is unlikable and Bethany is enjoyable then I don't feel so bad about picking a warrior.

For me, its a question of survivability. I.e., I can keep a warrior alive longer and with lesser effort (read: frustration) than I can a mage or rogue.

Everything else is kind of secondary. Though admittedly, the idea of an all female party does have some appeal.

Number one reason TO play mages?

Rock Armour. Actually creating rock armour (avater style) was a nice touch. Much better than it's predecessor is in DA: O, which gave you a pig-pen aura.

I personally am not a huge fan of mages for various reasons. They die pretty quickly if enemies get close, and it's not always as fun to just stay ranged. Also the figuring out a million spells is more trouble than its worth.

I'm more of a fan of running up and stabbing things, but that's just me.

Not a fan of mages in general, but Default 'canon' Hawke seems to be a mage, so it makes me question if that'll be the best way to play the game, much akin to default 'canon' Warden being a Warrior, and how Warrior got the best armor and weapons payload in Origins.

But, the player sitting in that chair isn't. C'mon. Are you so naive that you don't get this? :P

Anyways, if we do get a toolset (anyone know if  we are; it's troubling that it hasn't seemed to be announced), I imagine the forced choice between the two siblings will be one of the first things modded.

Being the overprotective sister that look out for her younger sibling and knock templars sounds much more fun then being the big sister that has a nasty young brother then whines. So I will go warrior despite planning to play mage simply because I love the video of warrior Hawke stepping out infront of Bethany when a templar showed up. :D

When I tried playing non-mage characters in Origins, after having finished a mage character, I kept switching to Morrigan because she was just so much more fun to play than a rogue/warrior :) Gonna keep up the tradition of starting out with a mage!

This. I really don't want lord derp following me around.

I agree. If I ever buy DA 2 I'll likely be playing a warrior Hawke and only just that. Carver looks like a d-bag and rogues (usually my favorite type of class) look like rediculously cliched goofy ninjas with all the flipping around, tossing smoke bombs and their severe weapon limitations. There's no way in hell I'm making a rogue and I would much rather Carver be killed so...it's warrior Hawke or warrior Hawke for me.

I'm looking forward to playing all the classes. But I will probably start as mage 1st.

I like Bethany, but I'm also looking forward to the rivalry with Carver.
