I've been trying to download the 1.04 patch today, and I'm getting unusually slow download speeds (forgot the exact rate, but it was telling me 8-25hrs for download). Similarly, my download of Golems of Amgerrak keeps freezing-- I let it churn for three hours but it only got to 47%
I downloaded Witch Hunt just a few days ago with no problem, and haven't had any problems with my internet speed with other applications/websites/video streaming.
Is this a high traffic day for Bioware Games or is there something else going on?
Downloading Patch/DLC is very slow

I just did a test download of the 1.04 patch from here: http://social.biowar...page/da-patches
... in about 2 minutes (about 400 to 480 kbps). Chances are pretty good that it's either on your end or on your ISP's end. Restarting your computer or rebooting your modem may help... of course, if you're sharing a connection with someone else (or have multiple internet devices using your connection) you could be competing for bandwidth.
You can manually download DLC that you've paid for and install it outside of the Dragon Age game itself. There's information on the Dragon Age Wiki...

Note you'll have to download both the main DLC and its associated "offer" file. They're installed using the daupdater.exe application.

Crosschecking with a couple of speed tests, my connection is running at a little over 5 mbps for download speed. The Dragon Age uploader is running slightly under 1 kbps. Seriously.
So, is there any reason for the discrepency between the Bioware uploads and the rest of the internet?
Edit: now down to 51 bytes per second. No, I don't share an internet connection, and I checked to make sure my husband wasn't streaming video or some nonsense like that.
Again, this wasn't a problem a few days ago.

I can only speculate... please keep in mind that we're all just enlightened amateurs here on this forum. There's actually no "official" tech support here... for that you have to go to support.ea.com.
Again, I just tested it and I was able to get a pretty good speed on both the patch and the manual install file for Golems of Amgarrak... so the trouble has to be on your end.

BTW: It appears the Wiki has changed it's pages in anticipation of DA2. The Origins DLC page is now at:

Well, I'm downloading things just fine from everywhere except from Bioware. Even streaming video.
But, as you say, we're just guessing here. I suppose I'll have to shout at EA help tomorrow.

Don't forget that in this forum, the actual subject matter is playing the basic game as well as possible with assorted hardware. It's not intended to cover buying DLCs, downloading anything (DLCs specifically) other than a patch, paying for points, running mods, etc. etc. There are forums for discussing SITE problems, point problems, and mods. We don't chase off discussions of SITE problems, but this isn't the best place for those, and one of these days, someone on their end (Bioware's) is going to realize that there's seldom a moderating presence in here, and start shutting down the off-topic threads, so we should make some effort to be ready for that.

The inability to download a patch for the game isn't a fit topic for this forum? Nonsense.

Thanks, Raen. Of course it's a PC support issue-- it might be a configuration issue on my end, if nothing else. Besides, there is no other forum for patch download issues. It's not a bug, nor is it a site, points, or online store issue. Come now, it's hardly as if I was posting pictures of my dog here.
OT: Was able to download the patch by leaving the computer on overnight-- still slow, but speeding up. Perhaps I'll just chalk this up to the "vagaries of teh internets"

Well, after talking to EA help for quite a bit, we managed to track down the problem with the DLC download failures. The patch download speed issue was apparently unrelated-- probably just one of those things, since I did manage to download it.
This situation is a bit unusual, but I'll put it out there for future reference in case someone else encounters it.
1) DLC downloads are slow and will typically fail if you don't have the right version number
2) I installed DA:O via Steam, Awakenings via a hard copy that I bought from Gamestop
3) Steam automatically updated DA:O, but not Awakenings
4) The patch wouldn't install because it detected that I had DA:O in a Steam folder
5) Ergo, old version detected by downloader, hilarity ensues
Solution was for them to give me a new electronic copy of both DA:O and Awakenings via the EA Store. Yes, they did this. Super props to the help desk folks for working through this problem!
Anyway, personal recommendation-- if you get DA:O via Steam, buy any expansion packs via Steam as well, in order for them to be automatically updated. Or don't use Steam (I like the ease, but I admit it has its issues)

I'm also experiencing this slowness with the DLC downloads, and I'm running DA:O with the newest version, 1.04. The program data folder you've mentioned on in my C: drive (main HDD), whereas I've installed the game on a different larger hard drive. This hasn't been an issue before however, so I don't know why it's downloading the DLC so slowly O.o Any additional thoughts?

How many DLCs are being loaded?

well, Stone Prisoner downloaded and installed, though it took forever, and now all i have left is warden's keep and the ostagar one, so there are two left...I wonder if things are going slow due to the traffic with the DA2 demo downloads? I'm having the same issue as previously mentioned, only Bioware stuff is going wicked slow

Nahh... I've had the same problem from time to time... the in-game downloader is just slow sometimes... maybe it does more CRC checks than the usual download or something... lots of up traffic. Dunno.
