Weren't mages originally going to have a slimmer, less muscular look than rogues and warriors? What happened to that? Doesn't really make sense that someone who reads books, studies magic, and casts spells basically as a profession would be so cut. O_o

**edit**
I don't know why some of you are jumping to the all-or-nothing conclusion, but I'm not saying mages can only look like annorexic 12 year olds. I'm just saying that someone who wears robes, uses a good portion of their day studying magic, and who fights with mental abilities instead of physical ones (and does farm work)  won't be AS muscular as someone who does farmwork, wears heavy armor, practices physical abilities for a good portion of their day and uses physical abilities in fights.

It makes sense that they would use the same body model across the board for cost reasons, I was just kind of disappointed since I believe the devs said at one point that mages would be less muscular than the other classes.

Their combat animations are much more active now. That must keep them fit.

Personally, I've never really understood the stereotype that just because you read books, you loose all motivation and time to work out.

I doubt Hawke and/or Bethany were strangers to physical labor.  These are apostate mages who weren't as sheltered as Circle mages.

Running up and down the many, many, many stairs in the tower and using books as lift-weights would keep you fit :)

I don't doubt that Circle mages can excerise (I don't assume that they must all be "weak") but the idea that a mage spends the whole day reading and can't be muscular would apply even less to apostates, IMO.

Yeah, mages should be scrawny and weak, it makes no sense for them to be so fit. Magic = books (???) = unfit.

They should be shorter, too. Yes.

I'm not saying they'd be some fat slob that just lays around, but it doesn't make sense that they'd be as muscular as someone who was constantly training in physical combat. A surgeon who goes to the gym sometimes isn't going to be as muscular as a professional boxer.

Running away from templars = extreme exercise! I really have no idea why...maybe they're trying to improve their odds when it comes to dating? Heh, well, I can see that being motivation for Anders at any rate.

Dfinitely. For example, *I* read a lot. play games and class myself as a nerd; that doesn't mean I don't work out every other day just to keep fit. Stereotypes, stereotypes....

Besides, if I were a mage I'd abide by the "strong body, strong mind" principal; if the vessel's weak, the soul won't stand much of a chance.

now yall are just stereotyping mages. In some folklore to be able to lift something with magic. a mage would have to be able to lift it physically,

which mages are you talking about exactly that remind you of Mr. T? if this is directed at male hawke, well he would be an apostate ( being hunted by templars ) i doubt he would just be sitting around reading a book, and it is suggested that they live in a farm like setting ( lothering ) im sure he does plenty of work and or chores for people

Sure but it would be unusual, he would have to dedicate all of his free time to working out. Mage powers are all mental, every battle they use cardio at most while the physical attackers are heavily working their muscles fighting enemies, carrying heavy weapons and armor, etc...

Of course he can be. I've seen incredibly buff people who's job has absolutly nothing to do with physical labor. They just like women who dig men with muscles so they get muscles. My friend had amazing muscles and definition and he was studying to be a vet.

Buff =/= job with physical labor.

besides lots of Boxers, to use your example, arent incredibly buff. They are skilled at fighting and using their muscle.

Silly people are silly.

Because that would mean art assets would have to create extra character models and extra collision boxes for the revamped body frames. It's easier from a design standpoint. Same reason why you see the same NPC faces over and over again in games, wearing either the same clothes with different colors or different clothes, or having a different skin tone. It's easier than making individual models, and time can be served doing something else.

Well, as for Hawke, (s)he actually makes sense to have a muscular body, since they are, after all, living on a farm in a village - that is where you just have to do physical labour of some kind sooner or later. So in that aspect, I don't see that much of a problem.

However, in DA:O, where you could have been a circle mage, well - Okay, sure, there's nothing saying you have to be fat/skinny, but on the other hand - there's nothing saying you have to be extremely fit either. I quite disliked the lack of choice for the body build.. I mean, heck, I did 3+ mage playthroughs, and at least one of them really could have been a fatso. I don't say make every circle mage fat, but what's wrong with variety and the option to choose?

But, as I said, for Hawke, muscular makes sense.
