The two factors that determine how muscular someone is:

1) How much intense physical work they do, and
2) Genetics

Neither has anything to do with magic and reading (or not reading) books. This thread is awful and you should feel bad for posting it.

Nice straw man, there. He said somebody who spends most of their time studying books and magic shouldn't be as muscular as someone who spends most their time engaged in physical training (which they shouldn't), not whatever it is you're trying to argue against.

Not only is it unnecessary for one to spend most of their time working out to achieve a good physique, but there was even a time that an enchanter of the Circle Tower would teach his apprentices melee combat. Even then, the mages still exercised until Anders used that as an opportunity to escape.

But even all that doesn't matter since Apostates don't live in a tower.

Mages aren't physically unable to achieve a good physique and the body is still exaggerated for even warriors and rogues.

They can always do bodyweight exercises. Maybe when they go outdoors they sprint up mountains with a log on their back like Rocky Balboa to impress the women.

So...we now have proof that mages can have the equipment and the time to train their bodies. Is there any reason to continue this argument?

Oh, but the thread must still be derailed into pc x console elitism, lest the moderators think we've gone soft.

Perish the thought.

A mage should not be as muscular as somebody who devotes literally almost the entirety of their life to physical training the way a warrior would. That is the point. I don't know why people keep going off on these tangents about genetics and how it isn't necessary to work out constantly to be muscular. That isn't what the question is about.

Extracurricular means outside of the normal curriculum. The normal curriculum for a warrior is training his body to peak physical condition so that he's better at physical confrontation.

Awesome..

And here is the finest example of a non stereotyped mage, a complete death machine, arguably the single most powerful mortal in the forgotten realms and quite the candidate to be a catwalk underwear model on top.

I don't know about your Mage Hawke but my Mage Hawke would definitely work out to get as buff as a warrior (will... not... lose to... Carver!) so if the devs said warriors are going to be more muscular, then they would be even buffer then they already are in the demo. I don't really mind cuz I like my Mage muscular.
It all comes down to personally preference. There can be loads of arguments against the skinny Mage stereotype such as, "since I'm literally a genius I don't have to spend as much time studying. I spar with Carver all the time. And I win every time."
And that's why a body slider is very much welcomed by me. However, if the devs aren't giving it to us, then I'd vote for the default muscular Mage body over the skinny one.
Also, "realistically," rogues are to be super lean. Too much muscle not good.

Hawke will have worked on a farm every day for the last 8 years. Plenty of exorcise there. And not to mention that practicing his/her magic isn't something Hawke will have done much (as the point was to hide it) then there'd likely be room to play with swords or cut firewood. Not to mention that Hawkes father would have likely taught his children to defend themselves.

IF you knew that your only weakness was physical combat, wouldnt you get rid of it or at least make it so you can take a hit if they slip past your magic or cant cast in time to fend off a blow? Mages know some martial arts but are heavily focused on magic. It makes since. Your just assuming no mage can be built. Like all people assumed all gamers are fat 400 pound couch potatoes in the past. I'm a gamer, but Im physically active all the time and love martial arts, though most of my time is creating art and music or playing games. Women dont want a fat slob with power, so they work out is my guess. I seen too many false stereotypes as a child about how all gamers were fat, constantly eating snacks and ruining society with violent video games. I guess I never wanted to be what they cast us as and could imagine a Mage thinking like this. Besides, if your on a battle field and one lucky punch can wipe you out, you wouldnt be much of a threat or help.
