Well, I think that DAO is better than TW1. But I also think that this is only my opinion and not an universal truth. The same goes for Metacritic. They could say that GTA 4 is a great game, I couldn't care the less. People have their own preference.

Graphically the Witcher II is superior but as noted it doesn't matter if the Witcher's gameplay and story sucks. Personally, that was my biggest gripe with the first Witcher as the voice acting and dialogue always made me cringe. However, it seems like it's going to improve in the sequel.



In truth, I don't get why we're trying to compare both. If you're RPG fan or even a gamer, you'll be looking forward for BOTH games rather than trying to pit one against the other. Trust me that nothing great happens when fanboys knock each other off in their pathetic attempt to sound brilliant or 'mature'

Love how everyone's bashing the original Witcher's graphics, when they fail or intentionally miss the fact that the original Witcher used BioWare's own Aurora Engine, y'know the engine that made NWN series?

And I love how everyone starts to judge the game based on sex cards and whatnot. Seriously have you played through the game? Y'know like not stopping in the middle of Chapter 2, that's the DA:O equivilant of quitting in the middle of your Origin story, play the game from beginning to end if you want to judge Witcher's story.

This whole argument is especially funny since Diablo 3 with its top-down graphics will sell more copies than TW2 and DA2 together.

I completely agree, everyone should play a game before they pass judgement on it. I heard awful things about plenty of games, played them and they turned out great.

I heard The Witcher praised as a great RPG, I found a good RPG. I heard Dragon Age praised as a good RPG, I found a great RPG.


I have TW2 pre-ordered on steam and DA2 pre-ordered on Amazon. I'm set RPG wise for this year.

Actually the Witcher forums are quite civil. However, I just do not understand the hate coming from either side on this forum... I so miss the old BW forums. RPG players have gone in the past 2 to 3 years between games as they waited and waited for the next release of a game to satisfy their gaming requirements. This year is all win with so many great games being released in this genre. I enjoyed the Witcher (I have TW2 pre-ordered) I enjoyed DA:O (I have DA2 pre ordered) etc etc. Just as long as both games, actually any game entertains me, I am satisfied (if it turns out to be a classic in the making, bonus). As for graphics, yes TW2's are better, that is not a bad thing to say (and yes I am waiting to see what nice eye candy dx11 and maxed out settings do for DA2 as well). Graphics are important, games are a visual medium after all, however both these games have 2 totally different art styles. The graphics in both games are being used to help tell the story, if they both succeed at doing that win/win (myself I am more of a fan of great ambient sounds that are well ctafted and placed).

I do not frequent TW's forums, but it's only just about every thread here and every video on youtube

I agree btw, both games did different things better imo.
And before we start  flinging more crap, that's just my opinion.

DAO had more strategic fights with more micromanagent and companions. It also had better humor and relationships.
TW's world was grittier and more realistic and both combat and story were more focused on that single character.

What I thought The Witcher got right, was in presenting a believable, flawed protagonist who makes both good and bad choices and just has to live with the consequences, without ever forcing upon the player what the "right" choice is. In that respect, I don't expect The Witcher 2 to change very much in tone, so the visuals are obviously just an amazing treat.

Maybe I am judging BioWare too hard, but they've only done two other games with a voiced protagonist and in the most recent one, said protagonist was reduced to a one-liner vending machine complete with either red or blue IWIN buttons for every big decision.

So far I am liking what little I've seen about how Hawke will be handled in DAII, and I really hope the writing team did not cave into "the trend" and turned Hawke into yet another super-badass (who just is that because zomg nobody else can be this badass because they don't have [player] controlling them). I want Hawke to be a person who has to work for his or her fame, not just have it handed on a silver platter and then denied any hard choices simply by omissions from the writing team (looking at you, Sole Survivor!).

I know - different team, but with the way BioWare were rushing to follow "trends" in their most recently released title, I am a bit apprehensive. I want a deep story with deep characters, not just generic fantasy-fulfilment clichés and I really hope the Dragon Age II team manages to deliver. So far much of the reason so many people are looking to The Witcher 2 is because CD Projekt have been very open about not sacrificing substance for "coolness" and I'm hoping the Dragon Age II team have taken the same course.
