I was recently playing dragon age again (getting my perfect playthrough) and i just can't think of if desire demons are that bad. I mean they get what they want, but they also don't exactly harm people, but give them the illusion of what they want.

The people of Redcliff would disagree.

If they were smart and opened up a sort of "whatever your heart desires" psychic brothel where they didn't kill their customers they'd probably be more liked, better feed and rich.  If I could summon desire demons that's what I'd do.

Is the illusion of having the same as having? Not especially.  Desire demons have needs or they wouldn't be willing to give people something for whatever it is they need. Once you no longer serve the purpose for them, what then?  They feed on their host then move on.   Love is fickle enough, desire more so. What makes you think you could hold their interest long enough for the illusion to last?  Short term and in certain circumstances, perhaps it is passable.  Long term?   I kind of think of desire demons as sort of soul parasites.  Parasites being sometimes useful, but not terribly often.   Of course, if they looked like broodmothers, would you give them as easy of a pass, useful or no?

Would you not rather live in a cruel, harsh reality than awake one day realizing everything you thought was nothing but an ignorant lie?

It is a subtle evil. The illusion of happiness. And that is why they are among the most dangerous of demons.

Nothing lasts forever.  Happiness is happiness. Rather in a dream or otherwise.  If they would sell their services instead of keeping people in bliss comas until they die of starvation everyone would praise them and stand in line for their turn.

It's not just the illusion, they suck out your life, while under their sway the victim wouldn't eat, sleep, or anything a person needs to do. You'd think you were eating a feast but you'd be starving to death and that desire to eat but never get full would fuel the demon. You'd think you were swimming in a cool pool of water but really you'd be suffering from heat stroke in the Sahara and that desire to cool off would never be sated and the demon would feed on it while you died.

So yes, they are that bad...

Desire demons remind me of the matrix (you know the movies). They create a perfect fantasy that some individuals are unwilling to accept.

They feed off of the host like a parasite... so it all depends on how you want to live your life. As a vegetable being used... or a free thinker in the real world.

There was a grand total of one desire demon in the Circle Tower whose motives were somewhat altruistic: the desire demon supplying that templar with the illusion of a happy family. And even then, she didn't care that the poor bastard was going to eventually drop dead.

And what happens when she's done with that templar? She finds a little house in the country and knits sweaters for the rest of eternity? No, she moves on to another victim, and another after that.

As for every other desire demon I've encountered? Tried to rip my face off.

Yeah, they're evil.

What if you are looking for a good time, not a long time. Dayshadows brothel idea would work. :)

Something is buggy. Seems I can't type in any window other than "Quick Reply"

Hmm...it says it submitted a reply but didn't.

Chalk me up for bliss.  While you're off in fantasyland you likely wont notice whats happening to you in the real world. So what harm is there?

You die? And it marks you as a coward in my eyes. It is better to face a horrible truth head on, than it is to live a blissful lie, ignorant of all things, because by facing the truth, you gain acceptance, and by that you can understand your situation and maybe find a way out of it, or a way to fix it, or at least inner peace.. But thats a matter of personality, if you burned down my house I'm far more likely to string you from a tree than to get a lawyer. So yeah, most likely doesn't work for everyone.

Anyways Desire Demons are like Paris Hilton, Oh sure you might be happy for a bit but in the end it WILL bite you on the ass. For petes sake its a ****ing DEMON.  I'ld rather make my own happieness than ask it from a life sucking succubus. Besides admit it, if they looked like a broodmother or some other ugly unholy abomination, say a creepy clown that promised you happiness you'ld be screaming KILL IT WITH FIRE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. Luckly I'm not so shallow that I can be persuaded by a nice rack or well pretty much anything if I feel it should be crushed.

You die?

Everybody dies. Nothing bad about dying. Especially when you have nothing to live for. If I was that templar I'd take a short blissful life than a drawn out miserable one.  Life is pointless.  If you're not finding some kind of enjoyment you might as well kill yourself because it ends the same way no matter what you do.

Desire demons are so incredibly evil that they refuse to wear Dragon Age underwear all the other females are forced to wear when they go around topless.

There is literally no in game consequence for taking the desire demon's deal. Everyone assumes you killed it even if gives you a tome, bloodmage specialization, or a one night stand. (Assuming you are a mage).

If they don't posses you, don't demons suck the life right out of you? That seemed to be the case with sloth.

I could and may be wrong.

They are leeching life from you while giving you what you "desire". They will leave you a soulless husk after they drain your energy. Yes... they are bad.

The fact that you don't think they are bad is how they win. So basically if we were really in Thedas, you just died. :)

Video games are virtual and largely an illusion.

Hmmm... I don't like where this idea is going.
