I know we need a miracle for this to happen but I really hope Drew Karpyshyn takes control of all story writing for Mass Effect in the future so he can redeem the franchise before its to late!!!!
Does anyone else wonder if Drew was still around things would have been different? No lame comic books, Mass Effect 2 focusing more on the overall story, etc...

I have to admit, this is actually turning out a little bit better than I'd hoped. We get to see a young TIM and what sets him on the path to becoming the person we see in the games, but it still manages to leave an air of mystery about him. How did he meet up with Ben and Eva? How did he become a mercenary? How did he become on such good terms with General Williams? It even raises the question of whether or not he might be partially indoctrinated from his exposure to the husk-maker, not to mention why he didn't become a husk outright. The answer to this question could have a huge impact on my decision regarding the Collector Base during my definitive ME2 game.
That in itself raises some questions of its own. Where exactly did the turians find it? Why did the Reapers leave it lying around? How much has it already affected Desolas? Saren? How much do they know about it?
Some of these questions the series has hit us with and situations it has presented do present some possible contradictions with the canon, however, but some of them are easily rectified. I've seen people going "but General Williams surrendered Shanxi, he didn't abandon it!" Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't abandoning it tantamount to surrendering it? As for his resigning vs. being forced out, it could have been a forced resignation. Something similar to what you see in sports sometimes where a head coach is given the option between resigning and being fired. It'd be interesting to see what Ashley would think if she ever found out her grandfather was pals Cerberus's founder and actually gave them support. I'd imagine her opinion of one of them would have to change.
Regarding Saren, to those going "but his brother was killed during the war," it's possible he had another brother. And should the brother in question end up being Desolas, given Saren's personality, it's not that much of a stretch to imagine that in his mind, the war is still going on, especially given the fighting between him and Jack. The bigger question, for me personally, is does the revelation that he's already commanding husks have any impact on his actions after Mass Effect: Revelation? Does he already suspect Sovereign for what it is?
I will admit, it is extremley strange and a little offputting to see TIM and Eva going to Ilium and not really seeming to make that big a deal of it. It hasn't been that long since first contact, they just didn't seem as awed by it as they should have been, and TIM seemed to take to flying a hovercar way too easily. Plus, the husk-maker taught him how to speak asari? Even more proof of a connection between the asari and the Reapers.
From an artistic standpoint, I love it. The art is very well-drawn and colored. Some of the dialogue really stands out too, like TIM's line "I'm afraid some of it might be magic."
Overall, yes, it does raise some questions and possible inconsistencies, but for the most part, these inconsistencies can be easily reconciled, and as for unanswered questions, we still have two issues to go. I can't wait to see what happens next. Though I do hope Jack Harper ends up being a psuedonym and not TIM's real name. I think that should remain...Illusive.

Are there franchise comic books out there that actually meet people's expectations? That excel to the standards of the original source? If I'm going to blame anyone for the look and feel of the comic book, I'm going to blame Dark Horse simply because it is yet another series in a very long line of franchise comics done by the company that are substandard as comic books go. Dark Horse caters to the lowest common denominator, and quality means nothing so long as they can counter that argument with sales.
This needs to be quoted for emphasis and just to hammer the point:

Sucked.
Sucked.

Sucked.
Sucked.
So that the Mass Effect comics are not all that hot is not really shocking. Especially when they're bring being written by somebody who prior to had no part in creating Mass Effect (that being John Jackson Miller).

It frankly baffles me why they thought "exploring TIM's past" would be a good idea in the first place. He worked perfectly fine as the mysterious guy in the background in ME2.

I agree, the less told / shown about TIM, the more effective he is as a mysterious character... is he friend or foe? Can we trust him or not? Is he the next Hitler or Stalin or just misunderstood? Etc...
It's kinda like ...... Inspector Gadget. Dr. Claw (Klaw?) is never shown.. we only see him from a rear view in a chair, his arm resting on a chair.... and we hear his ominous voice.. but we never see him or never learn about who he is as a person...we just know he's really shadowy .... and eeeeeevil.
A children's cartoon understood this simple writing mechanic... and Mass Effect 2 did as well.... that is until they sorta ruined it with these very weak comics.

Walters is an untalented hack, who wriites like Mass Effect was an 'exreme' superheroic action movie.

Wait, let me get this straight, everybody is moaning about part 2, in a 4 part series?!? You've read half a story and gone off on one? well done guys this is truly amazing. You could at least wait till you've read the whole thing before declaring it rubbish. You have no idea where the story is going, or what could happen. No I'm not defending anybody or am I 'fanboi' of anything, but you should read the whole thing first and then base decisions off that. Oh, and remember there are always two sides to every story, just because in one place it says Saren's brother was killed, doesn't mean he was, things get mixed up all the time and errors always occur, plus it could have been a cover story fed to people to stop them from looking for him for some reason.
When you take a bite of a sh*t sandwich, do you have to finish it to know it's crap?

when reading a story and an issue of something is released without the original authors name on it, expect what you just got. imo, disregard the comics (I've never put any faith in comics at all since they all seem like things written for people who cant read a normal book, not bashing on anyone's intelligence just the impression I've always gotten from comic books) and don't buy them unless you see Drew K as an author to some regard.
Does that extend to Mass Effect 3 as well? Because Drew K's name won't be on that either. He was only a co-lead writer for ME2 along with Mac Walters (who IS associated with the comics) and now Drew is working on Star Wars: TOR and Mac is sole lead writer for ME3.

And boy am i disappointed by Mac Walters... The first comic series wasn't that great either, but it wasn't toying with lore and with the Shadow Broker DLC it even added allot more.
But this is just destroying the lore and everything we knew about it, for me this isn't even canon.
I'm waiting for the next book, even if it isn't by Drew

No they wouldn't, Mass Effect was not written by Drew alone and he did not come up with the universe alone. Drew was also part of what the storyline was going to be for all three parts. So he was also was one of the people who agreed to a character focused story. People should stop overrating Drew, he hardly the great writer people make him out to be.Razorsedge820 wrote...

Why a SPOILER thread is in General Section? There's a big (NO SPOILERS ALLOWED) in the description. Where are the mods?
Because the person who made this thread is apparently retarded. /ad hominem
What exactly are these ret-cons? I haven't noticed any (read through issue 3) other than Desolas being alive. Even that's not a huge deal to me, because there are three plausible explinations:
1) "My brother died in the first contact war" makes more sense out of context than "My brother died shortly after the first contact war while preforming some ethically questionable and scientifically irresponsible experiments on alien tech that clearly isn't from the Collectors or the Protheans"
2) We all knew that Saren's brother dying was just an excuse to act the way he did. He wasn't really angry about his brother, he was just a racist dick.
3) It's never explicitly stated that Saren and Desolas didn't have another brother who died (though it's unlikely that a family produces a general, a Spectre, and... a foot soldier)
This is the only real objective flaw I've noticed. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it wrong.
