Well to be fair, Casey Hudson had to approve everything that Mac Walters approved. So in this thread you can poke him with sticks too.
Heh, well, "Chud" does get a lot of hate already.

So very true. I am not much a Hudson fan, but as executive producer, he has a lot more to worry about than the actual story. I'm not so sure he actually is paying that much attention to the actual story, its content, or the consistency that has eluded Walters.marshalleck wrote...

No, I was expecting ME2's story to continue from ME1's and set the stage for the final Reaper showdown in ME3. I would expect that we'd find out more about the Reapers...perhaps some clues on how they could finally be defeated. I had always expected that ME2 would involve Shepard and the ME1 crew scouring the galaxy for clues about the Reapers, picking up some new squad mates along the way. This would be a nice buildup to ME3.darknoon5 wrote...

Instead, Shepard dies and is working for Cerberus doing pointless errands for people.
As mentioned, 'OMG THE PROTHEANS ARE COLLECTORS!' really doesn't cut it either.

And just to spread the panic: for those of you who've mentioned turians becoming villains in the third game - do you remember the silhouette shot by the sniper guy in the teaser trailer for ME3? DIdn't it look awfully like a turian to you?

How it should have gone:
ME1: Introduction
ME2: Exposition
ME3: Resolution
How it's going to be:
ME1: Introduction
ME2: Bunt/delay/distract
ME3: Exposition and resolution chopped up and crammed into a single game

Most of those who complain here are afraid that inconsistencies and retcons will influence ME3 (which is a probability, face it) and ruin it. They don't want the story to acceptable (as you've put it), they want it to be good.

I'm not the only one to seem to have failed to find any real story in ME2. The only thing in ME2 that was main story was "Oh, the Collectors are really Prothians. Ok, /story. They filled in the rest of the 20 hours of game play with back story shorts for all the new shiny companions. Oh boy! Do you have anything really inteligent to add to this discussion or are you just going to post snipes like the above, as you normally do everywhere else on this forum?
Not to mention, that Collectors plot doesnt make sense.
ME 2 story is good until you start to think about it. Which I as adventure gamer do unfortunately.

So what did we learn?
Reapers are mostly interested in humans( especially in Shepard).
Collectors were once Protheins.
Reapers reproduce using organic genetic materials.
Harbinger is main Reaper.

I still don't get why people hate Mac, but worship Drew as if he is any better. The three Mass Effect books are pretty bad and are also full of inconsistencies. Drew is also credited as lead writer for ME2 with Mac. The dialogue in ME2 is leaps and bounds better then ME1. I still don't understand why you people still hang around this forum if you guys are so convinced that ME3 will be bad. Do you people really have nothing in your lives, except to complain about a game you are already convinced will suck. Just stop coming to the forum, and don't buy ME3. Just keep playing ME1 over and over or find some other game series to play. This isn't the only video game out there. Also the comic is scripted by John Miller, and not Mac.

I'll sum up ME2 plot( without anything from squadmates):
A terrorist organization Cerberus resurrects you( WITH SCIENCE!) so you can stop the Reapers since their threat is being ignored. You find out that humans are getting massively abducted and nothing to suggest who and how did it. You get send on Freedoms Progress and you find out that mysterious aliens Collectors are on responsible and you must find out is there any connection with Reapers. After a while you get send on Horizon where you confirm they are working with them. After a while you later get send to investigate Collector Derelict ship and find out Collectors were once Protheins and about IFF. Once you decide to get IFF, your crew get's abducted later on and once again you decide when you want to hit on Collectors. In base you find out they are making the Human Reaper which is in very early stage of development and that they are using humans genetic material to create it( also in ME1 cut content there are dialogues about it).
So what did we learn?
Reapers are mostly interested in humans( especially in Shepard).
Collectors were once Protheins.
Reapers reproduce using organic genetic materials.
Harbinger is main Reaper.
So, why am I pwned?

Do we even have a franchise canon like SW (movies > licenced novels > comics > games)?
Ascension was mentioned in ME2, Redemption, well, Liara's short story in LotSB really sums up all the cool explosions and gratious ass shots.
We might not need to fear that much.

Mac Walters is seriously writing ME3??????? I apologize for being late in this thread but wtf is bioware thinking????? Well maybe I can stop worrying about new details for ME3 since it officially has the potential to blow now (in a not good way).
However people are not giving constructive criticism, and this forum is not the majority of players. If it was, the majority of fan would be playing FemSHep, but we know for collected data that more play as maleshep. Based on this forum most people would not be playing as soldier, but from data we know most play as soldier. The most vocal people might say that they hate the story or hate ME2, but that does not mean they have the majority opinion. Anyways, mot of the criticism has been bashing. Most people have not been giving any construtive criticism. I have no problem with people giving criticism with some way how to improve things, but I don't like it when people bash mindlessly.marshalleck wrote...

We know devs read the forum, and they should see the criticism for what it is. That "love it or leave it" crap is just that, apathetic and apologetic crap.
And Mac doesn't do the scripting, as in writing out the dialogue for each panel of the comic. What he does is outline the story and supply all the relevant information. The comic book production team does the rest.

The incongruities don't stop there. Within weeks of the end of the First Contact War TIM is on Illium. He even has a conversation with someone mentioning how close they are to the Terminus Systems. No explanation of how he knew where Illium was, or how he knew what the Terminus Systems are. No explanation about language barriers or technical problems like not having an omni tool; he even at one point pilots a flying car on Illium. WTH? They literally made first contact less than a year before. For most of that time he's been a guerrila fighter on Shanxi. There's no way he could know any of this unless it was part of his "Reaper download".
After this my head exploded. Humans were discovered few weeks ago and nobody cares when two of them walking on Illium? Really?
