Mac Walters is seriously writing ME3??????? I apologize for being late in this thread but wtf is bioware thinking????? Well maybe I can stop worrying about new details for ME3 since it officially has the potential to blow now (in a not good way).

Actually, I believe the game is already written. Some Bioware employee recently (in the last few months) tweeted that they did a full playthrough of what was hinted to be ME3 over a holiday weekend. They said it was great too, but the point is the writing should by now be mostly hammered out. They began on it before ME2 had been released, according to a video interview with Chud.

You're right...  but when did they sign walters on?  Like at what point in ME3's story development did he likely start contributing?

It's true. And like Marshallek said, the story is already written and done. In fact, it seems ME3 was written well before this comic.

I still don't get why people hate Mac, but worship Drew as if he is any better. The three Mass Effect books are pretty bad and are also full of inconsistencies. Drew is also credited as lead writer for ME2 with Mac. The dialogue in ME2 is leaps and bounds better then ME1. I still don't understand why you people still hang around this forum if you guys are so convinced that ME3 will be bad. Do you people really have nothing in your lives, except to complain about a game you are already convinced will suck. Just stop coming to the forum, and don't buy ME3. Just keep playing ME1 over and over or find some other game series to play. This isn't the only video game out there. Also the comic is scripted by John Miller, and not Mac.

We know devs read the forum, and they should see the criticism for what it is. That "love it or leave it" crap is just that, apathetic and apologetic crap.

And Mac doesn't do the scripting, as in writing out the dialogue for each panel of the comic. What he does is outline the story and supply all the relevant information. The comic book production team does the rest.

However people are not giving constructive criticism, and this forum is not the majority of players. If it was, the majority of fan would be playing FemSHep, but we know for collected data that more play as maleshep. Based on this forum most people would not be playing as soldier, but from data we know most play as soldier. The most vocal people might say that they hate the story or hate ME2, but that does not mean they have the majority opinion.  Anyways, mot of the criticism has been bashing. Most people have not been giving any construtive criticism. I have no problem with people giving criticism with some way how to improve things, but I don't like it when people bash mindlessly.

Not all criticism has to be in the form of a strongly worded letter, which is as a matter of fact just as easily disregarded. If people get emotional it's because Mass Effect means something to them, it's a signal that something the writers did touched them, and that what the writers are doing now is not necessarily good--even though negative reactions can be a sign of good writing in certain circumstances ("I can't believe Morrigan rejected my character's advances, what an opinionated and strong-willed ****!")

Because Collectors plot doesnt make any sense. They would never finish that Repaer, because they wouldnt abduct enough humans, because they had only that one ship. They would be dead before they would reach our Solar system.

So they would be stopped without Shepard because Alliance was already investigating it.

Seriously, what do you think they would accomplish with that one ship against Alliance fleet? Nothing, thus main plot of ME 2 doesnt make sense.

And killing Shepard was just cheap plot device, its never mentioned again after we leave Cerberus base except "I got better" lines.

And "take your whole team to shuttle while Collectors will take our crew" scene is just plain stupid.

He was always there. He was a writer for ME1 as well. Just not the lead writer then.

Sorry if I came across as rude.

Well, Mac didn't trainwreck ME2. It's a shame Drew isn't involved in ME3, but I doubt Bioware will let Mac destroy ME3 with a story fit for something from Sci-fy channel.

Didn't they already do that with ME2? Mass Effect 2 is lauded despite its lackluster story, not because of it.

With all due respect (remember Ashley?) how does one provide "constructive criticism" in this particular case?
Something along the lines of: "Dear writers, please do not make retcons that ruin the continuity of the franchise"?

Don't you find that a bit redundant?

A bit worried about Mass Effect 3's plot now. I thought Mass Effect 2's main story arc would be a blip or something because it focused on the characters which were definitely for the most part, well written with interesting arcs. But reading the OP has me concerned. Please don't mess it all up Bioware.

So what did we learn?

*Yawn*

This.

Of course Reapers are interested in humans (it's just another 'OMG HUMANITY IS SOOO AWESOME!' Sci Fi story).

Who gives a crap if Harbinger is the main Reaper...it could be Harry.   There's no interesting consequences tied to that big reveal.

...and Repears use human goop to make more baby Terminator Reapers?  I think this was added for shock value and nothing more.    This just tells us what they're made of...okay.

Oh that explains why they're so bad.  Outsourced teams of artists who may or may not have played the games get bad information from someone who is slowly eroding the canon like a river erodes limestone.

To put it another way, Drew was the one responsible for the main story, with Mac as part of Drew's team at the time.

There is no need to  vilify one writer and deify another. Nothing and no one is perfect. You are 100% right about that. The general direction the story seems to be taking is nevertheless unnerving.

I'll sum up ME2 plot( without anything from squadmates):

A terrorist organization Cerberus resurrects you( WITH SCIENCE!) so you can stop the Reapers since their threat is being ignored. You find out that humans are getting massively abducted and nothing to suggest who and how did it. You get send on Freedoms Progress and you find out that mysterious aliens Collectors are on responsible and you must find out is there any connection with Reapers. After a while you get send on Horizon where you confirm they are working with them. After a while you later get send to investigate Collector Derelict ship and find out Collectors were once Protheins and about IFF. Once you decide to get IFF, your crew get's abducted later on and once again you decide when you want to hit on Collectors. In base you find out they are making the Human Reaper which is in very early stage of development and that they are using humans genetic material to create it( also in ME1 cut content there are dialogues about it).

So what did we learn?

Reapers are mostly interested in humans( especially in Shepard).
Collectors were once Protheins.
Reapers reproduce using organic genetic materials.
Harbinger is main Reaper.

So, why am I pwned?

It's funny to read it when it's made out to be such a big story - and yet that's just 10% of the game.. the other 90% is spent on probing planets and helping with daddy issues.

Well my point is that there is main plot in ME2 and that we learn more then Collectors were once Protheins..

Oh, the hate is on.

The ME2 plot is fine and perfectly consistant. The storytelling has some pacing problems and a few weak points but I can trash the generic, rip-off story in ME1 just as easily if you wish. IF Mac retconned in the comic, well, shame on him. That TIM isn't who thought he should be, well, that's your problem with your own expectations.

Well that's YOUR problem that Humans are centric.
Also Humans defeated Sovereign in ME1, why would go for any other race then humans?

For Harbinger and real purpose of Human Reaper we shall see more in ME3.

And for love of God, Human Reaper is nothing like Terminator!
It's like saying Mass Effect is like Gears of War.

That was new and original. I take it as that you have no arguments and refuse to see the fact, that Collectors had no chance in succeeding. Prove me wrong or post another cool picture.

Wow.

See, I've always tried to refrain from disparaging Mac Walters' skill personally.  He's been around the comics industry for a while and he has some definite skill writing character pieces.  I think he was responsible for Wrex in the first game?

But after seeing this?  He's a hack.  He can write a character, but he can't put together an actual story to save his life.  Either that, or he just doesn't even care, which is worse.  Seriously, how do you screw up established continuity so thoroughly unless you didn't even read it?  How do you get hired as lead writer for this continuity if you don't know the first thing about it?

Mac Walters ought to be fired.  Put the people who wrote Lair of the Shadow Broker in charge.
